Abstract

This study analyzes the discourse of news coverage on police violence during the “Peringatan Darurat” protests in various Indonesian cities on August 23, 2024, published by Kompas.com. Using Teun A. Van Dijk’s Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA) model, the research examines how the media represents police violence and public responses. This qualitative study employs a descriptive-analytical method, using the article titled “Aksi Peringatan Darurat” dan Kekerasan Aparat yang Berulang as its primary source. Data analysis focuses on the text’s macrostructure, superstructure, and microstructure. The findings reveal well-organized discourse structures: the macrostructure highlights police violence in response to protests against the DPR’s rejection of the Constitutional Court’s decision. The superstructure systematically presents event details, while the microstructure influences public opinion, supporting protests. Ideologically, the news reflects student resistance to the DPR’s stance. Through Van Dijk’s CDA, this study uncovers textual dimensions of the Kompas.com article.

Abstract

This research discusses critical discourse analysis of reporting on the relocation of Rempang Island residents, Batam on the online media tribunbatam.id. The aim of this research is to describe the dimensions of critical discourse texts. The method used in the research is qualitative with a descriptive type. Research data collection techniques include news text documentation on the topic of news about the relocation of Rempang Island residents. The data analysis techniques in this research are data reduction, data presentation, and conclusions. The instrument in this research uses the critical discourse analysis method introduced by Teun A. van Dijk. The research results obtained from eight news texts about the relocation of residents of Rempang Island, Batam found elements in the text dimensions including theme, scheme, setting, details, intent, presuppositions, sentence form, coherence, pronouns, lexicon, and metaphor.

Abstract

This research aims to identify the characters and messages in the film Miracle in Cell No. 7 by Hanung Bramantyo using an objective approach. The data collection technique used is documentation. The results of this research reveal various characters and messages in the film Miracle in Cell No. 7. The protagonist characters are as follows: Dodo has a humorous, kind, gentle, and loving nature. Young Kartika is intelligent and understanding. Adult Kartika is wise and firm. Hendro is firm and wise. Japra is caring. Zaki is humorous and loving. Bewok is irritable and humorous. Gepeng is humorous. Bule is intelligent. The antagonist characters are as follows: Willy is vengeful. Rusman is selfish. The tritagonist characters are as follows: Okto is caring and irritable. Amat is caring. Agus is firm. Several messages are conveyed, including: doing good deeds without expecting anything in return, not judging people solely by their appearances, not being afraid to uphold what is right, not giving up easily in achieving one's desires, and being fair without considering social status. Keyword: character, message, film

Abstract

Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian yang mengkaji wacana self improvement dengan model Teun Van Dijk baik yang tersirat maupun yang tersurat dalam curahan pendapat Syarilla Asri yang disalurkan dalam bentuk tertulis pada buku “Yang Sering Bilang Gapapa, padahal Berantakannya Luar Biasa”. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mendeskripsikan keterkaitan konteks sosial yang mana menghubungkan alasan penulis memproduksi suatu wacana dengan perkembangan di masyarakat. Pengumpulan data yang dilakukan dalam penelitian ini adalah baca, catat, dan studi pustaka. Peneliti menemukan bahwa konteks sosial menghubungkan alasan penulis memproduksi suatu wacana. Dengan ini self Improvement berkaitan erat dengan realita kesehatan mental. Hal tersebut sejalan dengan fakta yang berkembang dalam masyarakat, dengan memuat dan membahas bagaimana quarter life crisiss berubah menjadi kekuatan baru dalam menghadapi kehidupan yang penuh dengan kejutan, bagaimana self improvement bisa terbentuk pada diri individu, bagaimana luka membentuk diri menjadi lebih kuat dan lebih berkualitas. Hal ini selaras dengan fenomena nyata yang terjadi di masyarakat.

Abstract

This research aims to analyze the existence of Indonesian in conveying verbal communication among generation Z. The type of research used is descriptive qualitative research in the form of a survey. The subjects of this research were young people belonging to the Z generation group, consisting of 55 respondents. This research will adopt qualitative methods through a qualitative approach, namely using parameters with Google from. This activity will involve direct observation and in-depth interviews with a number of individuals from Generation Z who have diverse social and educational backgrounds in various regions of Indonesia. Qualitative data analysis consists of four activity streams, namely: data collection, data reduction, data presentation, and conclusions. The research results state, (1) The intensity of language use in conveying verbal communication is divided into three parts, namely; (A) The intensity of language use by generation Z is dominated by the use of slang or modified language. This is related to the tendency to express themselves more casually and follow everyday language trends. (B) The intensity of use of standard language or language that is good and correct used by the majority of Generation Z is only at formal events. This is related to self- positioning in an effort to increase the impression of professionalism in formal situations, although there are some who claim to use standard language more often However, it seems that the use of this language has not been fully created in non-formal situations, whereas (C) In formal situations, language choice expresses preferring to use standard language in formal situations and some express it depending on the person they are talking to and a small number choose to use informal language or fail and modifications and mixtures even in formal situations. (2) The ability to communicate verbally, namely speaking and writing using standard language or language that is good and correct, most of generation Z can speak and write using standard language well, others have good abilities in only one of them and a small number not really able to use standard language well and even tend to have little understanding of the use of standard language. (3) The existence of the Indonesian language has evolved over time, there are modified languages made by the younger generation, especially generation Z, and even several modified languages have been added to the KBBI. This also has an impact on the existence of the language, the positive impact is increased knowledge of the language, enjoyable communication and Language inclusivity while the negative impact is the lack of use of standard language, changes in ethics in communication and errors in the use of modified language (slang).

Abstract

This research aims to describe the planning process, implementation, and outcomes of using audiovisual learning media in teaching descriptive text writing in class VII H at SMP Negeri 1 Kota Jambi. The study employs a qualitative descriptive method with data collection techniques through observation, interviews, and documentation. The research subjects consist of an Indonesian language teacher and randomly selected VII H students. The teacher plans the use of audiovisual media by considering learning objectives, student characteristics, and material suitability. The research findings indicate that the application of audiovisual media has a positive impact, making it easier for students to understand the material, increasing active participation, and improving the quality of students' descriptive text writing. This research finding aligns with previous studies that also found that audiovisual media can enhance students' writing abilities. This media is effective in helping students understand the structure of descriptive texts and express their ideas more clearly and in greater detail. The availability of facilities in schools, such as projectors and audiovisual devices, also plays a crucial role in supporting the successful implementation of this media. Therefore, the use of audiovisual media is expected to continue to be developed in writing education at schools. Keywords: Audio Visual Media, Description Text.

Abstract

The problem of this research is social criticism in the novel Teruslah Bdoh Jangan Pintar by Tere Liye. This research aims to get a precise, detailed, and in-depth description of the social criticism in the novel Teruslah Bdoh Jangan Pintar by Tere Liye. This research uses qualitative descriptive method. The data in this study are words, sentences and paragraphs that contain social criticism in the novel Teruslah Bodoh Jangan Pintar by Tere Liye. The data collection technique in this research uses literature study technique. The results of the research found social criticism: (1) social criticism of political issues (2) social criticism of poverty issues, and 3) social criticism of environmental issues. The conclusion from the results and discussion is that, this research criticizes three aspects, namely social criticism on politics, social criticism on poverty issues and social criticism on environmental issues.

Abstract

The problem in this study is how the use of politeness maxims according to Leech in the novel Ipar is Maut by Elizasifaa. The purpose of this study is to describe the use of politeness maxims according to Leech in the novel Ipar is Maut by Elizasifaa. The benefits of this study are divided into two, namely theoretical benefits, namely, the results of this study are expected to add to the treasury of politeness studies, in this case politeness in spoken language in novels and practical benefits, namely, for readers, for students, and for further researchers. The data in this study are in the form of speech containing politeness maxims in the novel Ipar is Maut by Elizasifaa. The method used in this study is a descriptive method. Data collection techniques use reading and note-taking techniques. The results of this study are that there are 6 politeness maxims used. The results of the study on the use of the most dominant politeness maxims used in the novel Ipar adalah Maut by Elizasifaa are the politeness of language in the maxim of sympathy, which is 24 utterances, and the least is the maxim of simplicity as many as 2 utterances. From the total collected, there were 79 utterances that used the principle of politeness.

Abstract

This study aims to identify and analyze the problems faced by students in writing description texts at SMP Negeri 8 Kota Serang. Writing descriptive texts is an important skill that requires mastery of vocabulary, understanding of text structure, and the ability to compose cohesive and coherent sentences. This study uses a qualitative approach with a descriptive method. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and questionnaire analysis. The subjects of the study were students of grade VII-J SMP Negeri 8 Kota Serang and Indonesian teachers of SMP Negeri 8 Kota Serang. The results of the study show that the main problems faced by students include low vocabulary mastery, difficulty understanding the structure of descriptive texts, and lack of motivation in writing. In addition, conventional teaching methods and the lack of use of innovative learning media are also inhibiting factors. This study recommends the use of relevant learning media, such as pictures, videos, or interactive applications, to increase student’s interest. Teachers are also expected to develop more creative teaching methods and provide clear guidance in writing descriptive texts. Thus, it is hoped that the problems faced by students can be minimized and the ability to write descriptive texts can be significantly improved.

Abstract

This research focuses on the analysis of gender representation in feminist narratives on social media using the Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA) Model developed by Sara Mills. The background of the study is rooted in the growing influence of social media in shaping public perceptions of gender issues, where feminist discourse often intersects with patriarchal norms. The aim of the research is to identify the themes that emerge in digital content and to understand how feminist narratives contribute to gender representation. The research method employed is a qualitative approach with content analysis, where data is collected through surveys and interviews, and analyzed using critical discourse analysis techniques. The findings reveal five main themes: objectification, stereotype reinforcement, empowerment, rejection of norms, and diversity representation. The study concludes that although there is content that reinforces gender stereotypes, social media also offers a platform to introduce more inclusive and positive narratives. This research significantly contributes to the literature on discourse analysis and gender representation and paves the way for further studies on the relationship between media, gender, and society in the digital age.  Keywords: Critical discourse analysis, gender representation, social media, feminism, digital content.
