Abstract

Background: The use of electronic cigarettes (vapes) is increasingly prevalent among adolescents, including high school students. E-cigarettes are often perceived as safer than conventional cigarettes, although they still contain harmful substances such as nicotine and formaldehyde. This study aimed to determine the determinants influencing electronic cigarette smoking behavior among high school students in Jambi City. Methods: This quantitative study employed a cross-sectional design involving 96 respondents selected through proportional random sampling. Data were collected using questionnaires and analyzed using the Chi-Square test (α = 0.05). Results: A total of 68.9% of students reported using electronic cigarettes. There were significant associations between smoking history (p = 0.000), perception (p = 0.002), accessibility (p = 0.019), pocket money (p = 0.005), and media exposure (p = 0.004) with electronic cigarette use behavior. However, no significant relationships were found with parental influence (p = 0.966), teacher influence (p = 0.179), or peer influence (p = 0.219). Conclusion: Predisposing and enabling factors such as smoking history, perception, and accessibility play a crucial role in adolescents’ electronic cigarette use behavior. Education, family supervision, and regulation of e-cigarette access are necessary to reduce usage among teenagers.

Abstract

Background: Air is a basic and primary need for living things. Good air contains the element oxygen in sufficient quantities. Oxygen plays an important role in the body's metabolic processes. Oxygen deficiency will cause hypoxia and fatal conditions can cause death. Good air pollution standard index When it has a level of less than 50, the lower the value, the better the air quality in an environment. Environmental problems related to air quality have now reached a disturbing stage and are a priority to be addressed immediately. Sources of pollutants in the ambient air, among others, are due to human activities. The urbanization of the population and industry are the two main sources that are thought to reduce air quality to a low level. All control efforts are currently being carried out, starting from control at the source to the environment and efforts to protect the living things affected. This study aims to determine the traffic density and the influence of various types of plants along the main road on the levels of dust and noise in the ambient air of the city of Yogyakarta. Method: This research is qualitative research using observational research methods supported by a literature review. Results: The results of the study show that the traffic density in the city of Yogyakarta fluctuates a lot but tends to be high. Traffic density has an impact on noise and dust levels in the ambient air of Yogyakarta City. Conclusion: The recommended air pollution control effort is to control the second node of the existing pollution control node. The intervention is carried out in the vehicle (ambient air), this is because the pollutants are already in the environment so an effective and efficient control model can be carried out in the ambient air environment by utilizing plants as green open spaces.

Abstract

ABSTRACT Background: Health services provided at Posyandu (Integrated Health Posts) continue to face various challenges, particularly regarding program integration and the effectiveness of community health cadres in delivering promotive and preventive services. The Integrated Primary Health Services (ILP) program was designed to strengthen preventive approaches at the community level. However, its implementation at the Sungai Saren Community Health Center has not yet yielded optimal results. This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of ILP implementation through the development of an e-book as an innovative learning tool for Posyandu cadres. Methods: This research applied a mixed methods approach using a sequential explanatory design. The first phase employed a qualitative phenomenological method through in-depth interviews and observations with 17 informants to explore cadres’ experiences, needs, and barriers. The second phase was a quantitative study using a quasi-experimental design (pre-test and post-test without a control group), involving 115 Posyandu cadres. The effectiveness of the intervention was assessed using the IPO framework (Input–Process–Output). Results: In the input aspect, limitations in digital literacy and access to technological devices were identified as key challenges among cadres. In the process aspect, while the e-book had reached most cadres, training and mentoring in its use remained uneven. In the output aspect, the e-book demonstrated a significant improvement in cadres’ understanding and self-confidence, particularly concerning nutrition and stunting issues. Conclusion: The ILP e-book is effective as an alternative learning medium for Posyandu cadres. However, its success depends on adaptive implementation strategies and sustained policy support.

Abstract

Bckground: Stunting and malnutrition among toddlers are major public health challenges, particularly in Indonesia. One effort is the development of supplementary feeding (PMT) based on local foods, such as fish and peanut biscuits. This study aims to determine the effect of fish and peanut biscuits on toddlers' nutritional status, hemoglobin (HB) levels, and the safety of kidney function as measured by urinary protein. Method: This study used a pre-experimental one-group pre-test post-test design involving 30 children aged 6–60 months. The intervention consisted of providing Fishbean biscuits at 50 grams/day for 40 days along with booklet-based nutrition education. Data collected included anthropometric measurements, hemoglobin levels, and dietary intake, which were analyzed using univariate and bivariate methods with the Independent Sample t-test. Result: Providing Fishbean biscuits increased energy, protein, and fat intake, but had no effect on carbohydrate intake. This intervention effectively increased weight-for-age (BW/A), but did not show a significant effect on height (H/A), BW/H ratio, or hemoglobin levels. Furthermore, the absence of changes in urinary protein indicates that consuming Fishbean biscuits is safe for toddlers' kidney function. Conclusion: Fish nut biscuits can be integrated into the PMT program. Exploring the long-term impact of fish nut biscuits on the nutritional status of toddlers is recommended.

Abstract

Background: Growth faltering in children remains a major global public health concern because its consequences extend far beyond early life, affecting cognitive development and future economic well being. In Indonesia, children living in rural settings face a greater risk of experiencing growth problems, particularly in contexts marked by infectious diseases, inadequate sanitation, and maternal related factors. This study was conducted to examine the risk factors associated with growth faltering among children under two years of age in rural areas of Eastern Indonesia using data from the 2023 Indonesian Health Survey. Method: A cross sectional design was applied, involving 2,672 children aged 6 to 23 months. Data were analyzed using the chi square test and multiple logistic regression Result: The findings revealed that a history of low birth weight (AOR = 2.45; 95% CI: 1.755–3.434; p < 0.00), birth order (AOR = 1.23; 95% CI: 1.031–1.481; p = 0.015), a history of upper respiratory tract infection (AOR = 1.28; 95% CI: 1.04–1.57; p = 0.020), and unimproved latrine conditions (AOR = 1.314; 95% CI: 1.046–1.651; p = 0.019) were significant risk factors for growth faltering. Conclusion: These results suggest that infectious diseases, poor sanitation, and maternal characteristics play a central role in shaping the burden of child growth faltering in rural Eastern Indonesia. Accordingly, efforts to reduce its prevalence should prioritize improvements in maternal health services, stronger family planning programs, prevention of infectious diseases, and better access to basic sanitation in rural communities.
