Abstract

Mung bean (Phaseolus radiatus L.) sheet jam is defined as a jam product that is modified into  sheet form. The characteristics of sheet jam are in the form of a compact sheet, plastic, and not sticky when removed from the packaging. Iota carrageenan is used in the manufacture of sheet jam as a texturizer to form a dense sheet texture. This study aimed to determine mung bean sheet jam's chemical and sensory characteristics. This study was experimental with a completely randomized design (CRD) with only one factor, i.e. iota carrageenan concentration (0.75%, 1.0%, and 1.25%). The results showed that the formula with the addition of iota carrageenan concentration of 1.25% (F3) was the most preferred by the panelists based on color, aroma, texture, taste, and overall parameters. The nutritional content of the mung bean sheet jam product produced from the selected formula was carbohydrate (64.97%), protein (9.44%), and fat (20.80%). The dietary fiber content of the mung bean sheet jam content product was 19.71%. Based on the Recommended Dietary Allowances (RDA) per serving (100grams) of mung bean sheet provides the energy needs of 485 kcal, 16% protein, 31% fat, and 20% carbohydrates for the general group. Keywords - Carrageenan, Jam, Mung bean, Sheet

Abstract

WHO reported in 2016 that the prevalence of anemia among women was 32.8%. One of the causes for anemia is the deficiency of iron in the human blood cells. Pomegranate has the potential to increase iron status in cells and functional iron. The general objective of this study was to determine the best formulation of pomegranate candy based on the results of its sensory tests and nutritional content. This study was divided into 4 stages: pomegranate extraction, preliminary trial and error, sensory test, and nutritional content test. The sensory test results showed that the three candy formulations with various gelatin compositions had the same sensory properties. The smell and appearance of all candy formulations were classified as normal, the colors of the candy were identified as white and brown, and the taste of the candy was identified as slightly sour with a chewy texture and a solid shape. The candy formulation with the highest gelatin content had the highest iron and protein content, as well as the lowest water content, and longer shelf life. This makes candy with the highest gelatin content determined to be the best formula considering its higher ability to overcome anemia.  Keyword - Anemia, Candy, Fruit of Heaven, Pomegranate

Abstract

A Permanent Magnet Synchronous Generator (PMSG) is a generator whose excitation comes from permanent magnets and not from additional external excitation. The efficiency of the current PMSG model is still low at 73%, and it needs to be increased by selecting better materials for the stator and rotor. This study simulated the use of better materials for the stator and rotor, namely TR52: USS transformer, M27: USS Motor, and Carpenter: Silicon Steel materials. The simulation used the Magnet Ampholytic Software, which is based on the Finite Element Method (FEM). The results of the simulation experiment are as follows. Using the TR52: USS Transformers material obtained the highest efficiency of 77.3%, followed by the M27: USS Motor material at 77.1%, and followed last by the Carpenter: Silicon Steel material at 75.8%.Keywords – Permanent Magnet Synchronous Generator, Finite Element Method, Efisiensi

Abstract

The asian tapir (Tapirus indicus) population continues to decline so the IUCN establishes its conservation status as endangered. One of the conservation efforts that can be done is ex-situ in the zoo. The environmental condition of the zoo is different from their natural habitat which results in asian tapirs having to adapt. One form of adaptation is behavior change that can be experienced by female asian tapir. Behavioral changes such as not wanting to breastfeed can threaten the survival of their offspring. This study aims to identify the maternal behavior of asian tapirs through daytime activities, determine the response of its calf, and determine the welfare of asian tapir in Taman Margasatwa Ragunan (TMR). Observations were made on one female asian tapir and one asian tapir calf. The observation was done from 9.00 to 14.00 during August 2022 and uses the focal animal sampling method. The results show that the mother does more self care than maternal care. Maternal behavior that is carried out are nurse and social. The calf responds by sniffing its mother’s stomach to suckle and approach its mother’s body. The five animal welfare points are fulfilled in asian tapir at TMR.Keywords – Asian tapir, Daily behavior, Maternal care, Tapirus indicus

Abstract

PT Pesona Arnos Betom is manufacturing company engaged in the field of general contractor and supplier wich produces paving blocks, udith, box culverts, kanstin, sirtu, sand, coral, dark ash, and basecous. One of its superior products is the K300 T-6 paving block with a total production in February-August 2022 of 5,683,800 units and a total defect of 892,560 units. The purpose of this study is to control quality, minimize defects, and provide suggestions for improving the quality of the K300 T-6 paving block production process. This study uses the Six Sigma method and Failure Mode Effect Analysis (FMEA). From the results of the study, it can be seen that the average sigma value based on total defects from February to August 2022 is 3.43 sigma, which means that it still has not met the target towards the six sigma standard. The FMEA method is used to find out that gouge defects are dominant. Proposed improvements that need to be made are tightening the SOP for pallet arrangement and holding a pallet arrangement checking section, monitoring the loading and unloading process carried out by employees using heavy equipment, re-checking the dosage of hardener using automatic scales before being put into the mixer, checking the old ash content when producing dark ash before entering the paving production stage, and setting up the mixer machine for automatic 8 minutes operation. Keywords – FMEA, Paving Block, Quality Control, Six Sigma

Abstract

During the pandemic in early 2020, consumer behavior in shopping at retail stores changed. Some of the main factors taken into consideration that can influence consumer shopping behavior are facilities, layout, and time spent shopping. This can affect product sales at Indomaret Sukatani which has an ineffective layout so that it is difficult for customers to reach and customers need to spend a long-time shopping. To solve these problems, it is necessary to do data mining using the Market Basket Analysis method with the Apriorist and FP-Growth Algorithm so that customer shopping patterns can be known in order to design new layouts. Then the effectiveness test can be done by calculating the rectilinear distance to find out the most optimal layout design, namely the layout design based on the FP-Growth Algorithm with the smallest total rectilinear distance value of 2353.5 in the first scenario, 2313 in the second scenario, and 1609.5 in the third scenario. Keywords – Customer Behaviour, Layout, Market Basket Analysis

Abstract

Tempeh is a substrate that can be metabolized by Lactic Acid Bacteria (BAL) so that it can be used to maintain the balance of intestinal microflora. BAL belongs to non-pathogenic bacteria that produce lactic acid as the main end product. The probiotic property of BAL contained in tempeh juice with the addition of dates and skim milk need to be tested biochemically. This study aims to measure the BAL potential of tempeh juice as probiotic candidate. The total BAL measurement is carried out by counting the Total Plate Count (TPC). The method is carried out using macroscopic, microscopic and biochemical characteristics (catalase test, salt content resistance test, and acid pH resistance test). The data is descriptively presented using figures and tables. This method obtained a total BAL of 9.6 x 106 cfu/ml, which meets the requirement for growing probiotics of at least 106 cfu/ml. Macroscopic characterization shows colonies in the form of rounds, flat edges, convex elevations, and around the colony there was a clear zone. Microscopic characterization obtained four isolates that are Gram-positive, catalase negative, resistant to salt content of 5% and 6.5% and able to grow at pH 2.5 and 3. Based on this study, four isolates were found to have the potential to be probiotic candidates. Keywords – Dates, Lactid Acid Bacteria, Skim Milk, Tempeh, Probiotic

Abstract

Bioplastics are expected to reduce the use of commercial plastics. Several efforts have been made to improve the properties of bioplastics, including the addition of antioxidants or antimicrobial agents. One of the antimicrobial agents is activated charcoal or activated carbon. This study was aimed to investigate the effect of activated carbon addition to the bioplastic composite. Sago waste was utilized as the matrix in the composite, while activated carbon was as filler. Sago waste is the leftover biomass resulted from the sago extraction. The proximate analysis showed that the composition of sago waste was mostly dominated by the fibrous materials followed by protein and fat. The activated carbon was obtained from the treatment of Betung bamboo. The Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy indicated that the thermal treatment of Betung bamboo at 175 °C for 5 h resulted The treated sago waste  was immersed in 5% KOH  for 24 h and further dried and then pyrolyzed at 750 °C for 90 min to yield activated carbon. The activated carbon was dominated by the carbonaceous materials. This was also supported by the proximate data indicating the presence of 91% carbonaceous materials in activated carbon.  The Brunauer Emmett Teller (BET) analysis showed that the activated carbon has surface area of 460 m2/g. This activated carbon was then used as filler at bioplastic composites. Two levels of activated carbon percentage on composite were tested, which were 3-5% (% m/v). The mechanical analysis using universal testing machine indicated that the addition of activated carbon reduces the tensile strength and modulus of elasticity. The scanning electron microscopy (SEM) images clearly indicated the presence of activated carbon on the surface of bioplastics.  The data obtained in this study showed the potential of composite sago waste and activated carbon as bioplastics. Further, the activated carbon obtained in this study can serve as an adsorbent, providing possible applications as antibacterial agent. Keywords – Activated Carbon, Biomass, Bioplastic, Composite, Pyrolysis, Sago Waste.
