Abstract

Pain is one of the common effects experienced by children during invasive procedures, such as infusion, injection, blood sampling, and others. Cold compresses are a non-pharmacological method believed to be effective in reducing pain in children prior to invasive procedures. The purpose this systematic review aims to evaluate the effectiveness of cold compresses in reducing pain in children during invasive procedures. The study adopts a systematic review approach following the PRISMA guidelines. The synthesized articles were selected based on Randomized Controlled Trials (RCT) designs and met the inclusion criteria, namely children aged 0–18 years undergoing invasive procedures. Articles were sourced from PubMed, Cochrane, and ProQuest. The collected data included population, intervention, comparison, and outcomes measured using the Visual Analog Scale (VAS) and FLACC.  A review of three articles showed that cold compresses significantly reduced pain intensity in children before invasive procedures. Data analysis using a random-effects model of secondary trial data revealed a mean difference in pain intensity of 0.34 (95% confidence interval: [-0.76, -0.33]), assessed using VAS and FLACC scores. Cold compresses are proven effective in reducing pain intensity in children before invasive procedures. Further studies are needed to explore the influence of other variables, such as the type of procedure and the duration of application

Abstract

Perceptions and intentions about breastfeeding, especially among adolescents who represent future parents vary widely. Understanding these views is essential for designing impactful health education programs. This study aimed to assess perceptions and intentions toward breastfeeding among adolescents in Bangladesh. Method used a cross-sectional survey conducted on 132 adolescents aged 14-18 years from urban and rural areas of Bangladesh, who were selected through appropriate sampling. Data were collected using a structured questionnaire. Analysis was conducted using a computer program that used descriptive and inferential statistics. Significant relationships were identified between breastfeeding perception and several socio-demographic factors such as class level (t=2.107, p=.037), mother’s education level (t=2.215, p=.029), father’s education level (F=5.189, p=.007), and source of information on breastfeeding (F=4.290, p=.006). Additionally, a positive correlation was found between the number of siblings and breastfeeding perceptions (r=.047, p=.047). On the other hand, no significant relationship between a range of socio-demographic factors and adolescents' intentions regarding breastfeeding in Bangladesh was noticed in this study. P<.05 was used as the significant of this study. It is concluded that educational interventions that address both male and female adolescents, emphasizing the health benefits of breastfeeding and overcoming social barriers, are crucial for promoting a supportive breastfeeding culture.

Abstract

Elderly people are a population group that experiences various physiological changes with age that affect nutritional status. Food consumption and the body's utilization of nutrients can be used to estimate nutritional status. The Body Mass Index and Waist Circumference are two methods used to evaluate the nutritional condition of the elderly. This study purpose to determine the nutritional status based on Body Mass Index and Waist Circumference in the elderly in the Aisyiyah regional leadership of Tasikmalaya City. This research method used a descriptive study with a cross-sectional design. The number of samples in this study was 33 elderly people with an accidental sampling technique. Interviews were conducted with the research subjects to obtain age data, then body weight, height and waist circumference were taken. The analysis used univariate analysis, namely frequency distribution. The results of the study showed that the nutritional status of respondents based on BMI was mostly normal, as many as 19 people (58%), while the nutritional status of respondents based on waist circumference was mostly central obesity, as many as 26 people (79%). Although the nutritional status of respondents based on BMI was mostly normal, most of the respondents' waist circumference experienced central obesity. This deserves attention, because central obesity can increase the risk factors for metabolic and cardiovascular disorders, therefore it is recommended that waist circumference can be reduced.

Abstract

Hospitals play a vital role in healthcare systems by delivering comprehensive medical services. Nurses, as essential healthcare personnel, are responsible for providing holistic nursing care, including health education. However, a high workload may compromise their ability to educate patients effectively. This study aimed to analyze the relationship between nurses’ workload and the effectiveness of patient education in the Cempaka II inpatient ward at Advent Hospital Bandung.A descriptive quantitative design was employed, utilizing univariate and bivariate analysis. Data were collected through structured questionnaires with from 16 nurses and analyzed using frequency distribution and correlation tests. The study revealed that 62.5% of nurses experienced a high workload. Despite this, 62.5% of respondents reported delivering effective patient education. Key workload factors included understaffing, patient dependency, documentation demands, and expectations from hospital leadership and patients’ families. While a majority of nurses provided education effectively, high workload indicators, such as staffing shortages and extensive responsibilities, remained a significant challenge, potentially affecting consistency and depth in patient education delivery.High nurse workload is prevalent and may hinder optimal patient education. Strategies to balance workload and maintain education quality are essential to support patient outcomes.

Abstract

The primary nursing method is a method of providing nursing care aimed at professional values, with adaptability and competitiveness, as well as an effective nursing care model that always considers quality standards and patient safety. Nurses are required to improve the quality of their performance, as evidenced by research results that patient safety attitudes are influenced by patient safety goals. One indication of the success of nursing care provided during patient treatment is the length of stay. Length of Stay (LOS) is the number of days a patient is treated in the hospital, from the day of admission to the day of discharge, and LOS is also used by hospitals as a service indicator. This research is analytical with a descriptive correlational approach. The sampling technique used was purposive sampling. Based on the overall data analysis results, it was found that the Sig. (2-tailed) value = 0.022, which means that there is a significant comparison between the quality of primary nursing care and the Modified Team nursing care on the length of stay of patients in the hospital inpatient room.

Abstract

Antiretroviral therapy (ARV) is an important step in improving the quality of life of HIV patients, but its implementation often presents various challenges. This study aims to understand the experiences of HIV patients undergoing ARV therapy at Clinic 277 Adventist Hospital Bandung. A qualitative approach with a descriptive phenomenological design was used to explore patient experiences in depth. Data were obtained through in-depth interviews, participant observation, and medical document analysis with the participation of six HIV patients who met the inclusion criteria. The results showed that most patients experienced deep shock and anxiety when receiving an HIV diagnosis, but social support from family, community, and health workers helped them accept the condition. During ARV therapy, the main challenges faced included physical side effects such as dizziness, nausea, and skin rashes, as well as psychological challenges in the form of social stigma. However, ARV therapy has a positive impact on physical health, psychological well-being, and social interactions of patients. Continuous education from health workers has proven important in increasing patient adherence to ARV therapy. This study recommends increasing educational programs, psychosocial support services, and public campaigns to reduce stigma against PLWHA. The implications of this research are expected to support improving the quality of health services for HIV patients in Indonesia, especially in supporting adherence to ARV therapy.

Abstract

Depression is a common mental health issue among older adults, especially in rural areas where access to psychosocial support is limited. One promising non-pharmacological approach is reminiscence therapy (RT), which encourages emotional expression and social connection through structured memory-sharing. This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of community-based reminiscence therapy in reducing depressive symptoms among elderly individuals at the Kubutambahan I Public Health Center in Bali, Indonesia. A quasi-experimental pre-test–post-test control group design was used with 40 elderly participants divided evenly into intervention and control groups. Depression levels were assessed using the Geriatric Depression Scale (GDS-15). Demographic data were comparable between groups. Post-intervention results showed a significant decrease in mean GDS scores in the intervention group (from 9.1 to 5.4; p < 0.001), while the control group experienced no significant changes. Qualitative feedback highlighted improvements in emotional relief and social engagement. Reminiscence therapy significantly reduced depression in elderly participants in a short period. This intervention should be integrated into primary care services, particularly in rural settings, to enhance elderly mental health through scalable, community-based approaches.

Abstract

Anemia is a common health issue affecting adolescent girls, particularly in countries with low to middle income. One of the leading causes is iron deficiency, often due to insufficient dietary intake and poor compliance with supplementation programs, even when national initiatives such as Weekly Iron Folic Acid Supplementation (WIFAS) are in place. This study aimed to assess the impact of a comprehensive intervention conducted in schools on improving hemoglobin levels, knowledge, and adherence to iron supplementation among teenage girls. A quasi-experimental study using a pre-post control group design was carried out over twelve weeks in two public senior high schools located in Bali Mandara, Buleleng, Indonesia. A total of 200 female students aged between 15 and 17 years were randomly assigned into intervention and control groups. The intervention strategy included weekly supervised intake of iron tablets, biweekly educational sessions on anemia, peer support mechanisms, and involvement of parents in the program. The evaluation focused on changes in hemoglobin levels, knowledge related to anemia, and records of supplementation adherence. The results revealed notable improvements in all three indicators among students in the intervention group. Specifically, the program contributed to better awareness, more consistent tablet consumption, and an overall reduction in anemia prevalence. These findings suggest that combining education, direct supervision, and family participation within a school-based framework can effectively support anemia prevention and improve adolescent health outcomes.

Abstract

First aid is an immediate and temporary intervention provided at the scene before advanced medical assistance becomes available. Traffic police, as trained lay responders, play a critical role in emergency situations, particularly in traffic accidents. This study aimed to identify factors associated with traffic police officers’ knowledge of providing first aid to accident victims. A quantitative method with a descriptive-analytic design and a cross-sectional approach was employed. The sample consisted of 50 traffic police officers from the Pekanbaru Police Department, selected through consecutive sampling. Data were collected using a structured questionnaire assessing knowledge and attitudes toward first aid. The results showed that the majority of respondents were aged 26–39 years (82.0%) and had higher education (52.0%). Most had not received additional training (78.0%), and 60.0% had provided assistance to accident victims in the past two years. A total of 58.0% of respondents demonstrated good knowledge. The most significant factors influencing knowledge were additional training (p=0.016; OR=10.526) and higher educational attainment (p=0.025; OR=3.800). These findings underscore the importance of supplemental training and the integration of first aid content into formal police education. Practice-based and simulation-based training programs are recommended as effective strategies to enhance practical skills and strengthen the role of police officers as lay first responders in emergency situations.
