Abstract

Background: Oxygen saturation is one of the important parameters in assessing the patient's oxygenation condition, especially during the recovery phase in the Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU). This phase is very crucial because patients who have just undergone anesthesia are at risk of oxygenation disorders due to the effects of anesthesia, surgical procedures, or the patient's physiological condition. Objective: to identify and analyze factors that influence oxygen saturation in post-operative patients in the Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) and are expected to contribute to improving the quality of post-operative care and preventing serious, potentially life-threatening complications. Method: the data analysis technique uses descriptive analysis, namely presenting the distribution of oxygen saturation data and patient characteristics descriptively in the form of tables or graphs. The sample in this study was post-operative patients in the PACU room of RSI Purwokerto with a total of 62 patients. And using inferential analysis, namely the spearman Rho Test: to examine the relationship between age, gender, smoking status, and blood pressure with oxygen saturation and logistic regression test: to determine the most dominant factor influencing oxygen saturation with n = 62 patients. Results: shows a significant relationship between blood pressure and oxygen saturation, with a correlation coefficient value of 0.742 (very strong relationship category, p <0.05), and in gender, a correlation coefficient value of -0.332 (weak relationship, p <0.05) was obtained, the same as in smoking status showing a correlation coefficient of -0.369 (weak relationship, p <0.05). Conclusion: blood pressure, gender, and smoking status factors are related to oxygen saturation in postoperative patients. Suggestion: for further researchers, it is hoped that they will conduct research in various scopes, for example peri-operative.

Abstract

Background: Stroke is a condition in which the body experiences neurological changes due to impaired blood flow to the brain. Stroke can cause long-term decline in body function due to muscle weakness and difficulty performing daily activities. Post-stroke patients require therapy and rehabilitation programs to restore functional abilities and avoid further complications. The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of pulsed electromagnetic therapy on muscle strength in post-stroke patients with limb weakness. Methods: This was a quasi-experimental study involving 28 respondents experiencing limb weakness due to stroke who were undergoing home care, divided into 18 intervention groups and 10 control groups. The study was conducted in September-October 2025. The sample selection method was purposive sampling. The instrument used to assess muscle strength was a manual muscle strength test. Data were tested using the Mann Whitney test. Researchers measured muscle strength in the upper extremities twice before and after the procedure, while in the control group it was assessed after 2 weeks without intervention. Results: There was no difference in muscle strength between the intervention and control groups before the procedure with a p-value of 0.42. After pulsed electromagnetic therapy was administered to the intervention group for 2 weeks, there was a difference in muscle strength between the intervention group and the control group with a p-value of 0.039. Conclusion: Regularly performing pulsed electromagnetic therapy can increase muscle strength in stroke patients experiencing limb weakness.

Abstract

Diabetes mellitus is a chronic disease that is often accompanied by diabetic neuropathy complications, one of the main symptoms of which is chronic neuropathic pain. Uncontrolled pain can reduce quality of life, especially in the elderly. Various limitations of pharmacological therapy have prompted the need for safe and applicable non-pharmacological interventions, one of which is lavender aromatherapy massage. This study aims to determine the effectiveness of lavender aromatherapy massage in reducing pain intensity in elderly people with diabetes mellitus. This study used a quasi-experimental design with a non-equivalent control group pretest-posttest design. This study was conducted at H. Adam Malik Central Hospital in October 2025. The sample consisted of 70 respondents divided into an intervention group and a control group, each with 35 respondents. The intervention group received lavender aromatherapy massage three times a week for four weeks, while the control group received standard care. Pain intensity was measured using the Visual Analog Scale (VAS). Data analysis was performed using paired t-tests and independent t-tests. The results showed a significant decrease in pain intensity in the intervention group after lavender aromatherapy massage (p < 0.05), while no significant changes were found in the control group (p > 0.05). A post-test comparison between the intervention group and the control group also showed a statistically significant difference (p < 0.05). It was concluded that lavender aromatherapy massage is effective in reducing pain intensity in elderly people with diabetes mellitus. This intervention can be considered as a complementary therapy in nursing care to help improve patient comfort and quality of life.

Abstract

Stroke is a neurological disease that can cause physical, emotional, and cognitive impairment in sufferers. Recovery of cognitive function in post-stroke patients requires an active role for the family as the primary caregiver in the rehabilitation process at home. This study aims to explore family readiness in caring for post-stroke patients. The research method used a qualitative approach with a phenomenological design. Data collection was conducted through in-depth interviews with five participants selected using a purposive sampling technique at the Imelda Buruh Indonesia General Hospital in Medan. Data analysis used thematic analysis through a process of coding, categorization, and theme determination. The results of the study identified five main themes, namely: (1) family knowledge about post-stroke patient care, (2) family skills in meeting the patient's basic needs, (3) family readiness in supporting cognitive function recovery, (4) utilization of health services, and (5) barriers to care, such as limited time and emotional burden. The findings indicate that families play an important role in the patient's recovery process, but still face limited knowledge and challenges in implementing optimal care. Therefore, ongoing education and support from health workers are needed to improve family readiness in caring for post-stroke patients at home.

Abstract

Stroke in older adults often causes physical, cognitive, and emotional limitations that require long-term care at home. In this condition, the family acts as the primary caregiver, making family knowledge and attitudes important factors in the success of caring for older adults with Stroke. Although many studies have discussed the role of families in Stroke care, most focus on caregiver burden or patient quality of life, while studies examining the relationship between family knowledge and attitudes in caring for older adults with Stroke in the community remain limited. This study aimed to analyze the relationship between the level of knowledge and family attitudes in caring for older adults with Stroke in Limo District, Depok City. This study used a quantitative analytic design with a cross-sectional approach. The sample consisted of 124 families caring for older adults with Stroke, selected using a total sampling technique. Data were collected using the Stroke Knowledge Assessment Tool (SKAT) questionnaire to measure knowledge and the Family Caregiver Patient Stroke questionnaire to assess family attitudes. Data were analyzed using the Chi-Square test. The results showed that most families had low knowledge levels and negative attitudes toward caring for older adults with Stroke. Bivariate analysis showed a significant relationship between knowledge level and family attitudes (p < 0.001). These findings indicate that family knowledge plays an important role in shaping attitudes toward caring for older adults with Stroke at home.

Abstract

Low nurse performance in hospitals is an important issue that requires serious attention, as suboptimal performance may affect the overall quality of hospital services. Nurse performance that remains relatively low is closely related to individual internal factors, such as emotional intelligence and levels of self-efficacy. This study aimed to analyze the relationship between emotional intelligence and self-efficacy with the effectiveness of performance among staff nurses in the inpatient wards of Hospital X. This study employed a quantitative method with a cross-sectional approach and involved the entire population as the research sample, totaling 116 respondents. Data analysis was conducted using frequency distribution to describe respondent characteristics, Chi-Square tests to examine relationships, and Multiple Logistic Regression analysis using SPSS. The results of the multivariate analysis showed no significant relationship between emotional intelligence (p-value = 0.188) and self-efficacy (p-value = 0.108) with the effectiveness of nurse performance in the inpatient wards of Hospital X. This study is expected to serve as a reference for hospital management in paying attention to factors that may influence nurse performance effectiveness. In addition, the findings may be used as a basis for developing self-development training programs to support more effective nurse performance.
