Youths are the next generation and the heirs to local culture. This study aims to investigate the knowledge and cultural capacity of the youth in the Polewali Mandar regency, specifically related to their local language and arts. To obtain data, researchers use the survey method with the help of Google Forms. The participants in this study were 80 people with 5 representatives from each sub-district in the region. The results showed that there are 61.25% of young people still use Mandarese at home. Meanwhile, in offices, schools, and markets, only about 42-25% speak the local language. Furthermore, the capacity of youth in the local arts is also still very low. On average, their ability to perform Kalindaqdaq, kacaping, and traditional dances is only around 33%. Based on the results of this research, it is necessary to make efforts to maintain and involve youth in each of these efforts.

This study aimed to investigate the level and factors of anxiety experienced by higher students while writing essays through Google Docs. It used a quantitative data collection method collected through questionnaires adapted from the Second Language Writing Anxiety Inventory (SLWAI) by Cheng and ESL Writing Anxiety by Zhang using Five-Point Likert Scale. There were 10 participants in this study selected by using convenience sampling. The results showed an average anxiety score of 63, indicating moderate anxiety levels. The study identified that a lack of sufficient writing practice was students' primary cause of anxiety. Overall, this study provides valuable insights into the factors contributing to students' anxiety levels while writing essays through Google Docs. It can inform educators' strategies to support students in their writing assignments.

This study aimed at proving whether or not English animation movies could improve students’ listening achievement in SMA Negeri 1 Driyorejo. According to the findings of the pra-cycle of observations, Bahasa students of SMA Negeri 1 Driyorejo had problems assimilating the lesson materials. It was caused by the students' lack of vocabulary and they did not understand what native speakers said. In obtaining the data, there were 35 students contained 9 males and 26 females in Bahasa Class at SMA Negeri 1 Driyorejo. This study used classroom action research. The data in this study were observation, test, and questionnaire. The data analysis techniques used were descriptive qualitative. There were three steps such as pra-cycle, cycle I, and cycle II for collecting the data. The result showed the use of animated movies as media had greatly improved students' listening skills. It was found by comparing the result of pre-test, post-test I, and post-test II. Based on the data obtained, the researcher concluded that students’ listening achievement improved after using English animation movie. Students who reached the minimum score criteria were 3% for pre-test, 46% for post-test I, and 77% for post-test II.

The objectives of the study are to assess the students' reading performance and explore their problems in comprehending English texts. To achieve these objectives, a descriptive research design was employed. The participants consisted of 76 English Department students from the Faculty of Teachers Training and Education at Universitas Sulawesi Barat, Majene, Indonesia. Two instruments were used in this study. First, a test was administered to measure students' reading performance. Second, a questionnaire in the form of a Google Form was employed to gather students' self-reported responses regarding their problems and difficulties in reading English texts. The findings revealed that the students' mean score on the reading performance test was 47.24, indicating a relatively low reading performance among the students. Moreover, the questionnaire responses indicated that most students reported encountering problems and difficulties in comprehending English reading texts. Consequently, it can be inferred that students' reading performance is adversely affected by these challenges. Based on the results, this study recommends the integration of learning media, technological tools, and effective reading strategies to address the identified problems and improve students' reading skills. These practical recommendations aim to provide educators and researchers with actionable strategies to improve the reading proficiency of EFL students.

This study sought to determine whether teaching tenses using grammar exercises will enhance the student's writing skills in terms of language use, content, and structure. The seven-nucleus approach is being used at Cambridge English College (CEC) Makassar. This approach is a way to memorize tenses using seven certain verbs in English which are present, past, perfect, future, modal, and continues verbs. The current study employed a pre-experimental design with a single group for the pre and post-tests. The sample only included one class of 10 pupils, chosen using the technique of cluster sampling. The results demonstrated that the student’s writing ability had improved. It was three indicators of progress: language use had improved by 22.96%; content had improved by 12.3%; and organization had improved by 22.83%. The overall improvement was 19.48%. When compared to the pretest before the treatment, the student's writing competence was 1950 on the posttest, and the value of the t-test (7.440) was higher than the t-table (2.262). The research concluded that the use of seven Nucleus was beneficial in improving students' skills of writing in terms of the language writing content, and organization at Cambridge English College (CEC) Makassar based on its findings and discussion.

One type of writing exercise that concentrate on describing people, places, things, emotions, and feelings is descriptive text. While Instagram is a platform for sharing emotions and experiences from daily life, recounting such events in class encourages students to utilize their imaginations to reflect on their own lives and events that have already happened. Therefore, Instagram can offer several helpful components to help students improve their writing skills. In this study, the data were analyzed by the researcher using a quantitative approach with pre-experimental research. It was the method that used one group pretest and post-test design. In one group pre-test and post- test design, used a single group to measure or observe. The population of this research was class X TKJ 1 at SMK Darussalam Makassar, and there were 28 students in the samples. Assessments (pre- and post-tests) were the instrument employed in this study. The statistical findings show that the students' average post-test score was higher than their average pre-test score (70.11), at 86.61. This analysis of the t-test indicates that the t-test's value (16.511) is higher than its value (1.703) with 24 as the degree of freedom. This indicates a significant difference. In light of the fact that Ho is disproved and H1 is widely accepted, it is possible to conclude that using Instagram as a teaching and learning tool can help students improve their capacity to create descriptive writing. Instagram is a great tool for English teachers to use as a teaching tool since it offers a variety of implementation materials to break up the monotony of teaching writing to students.

This study investigates the common errors made by students when using the simple present tense in writing descriptive texts. The aim of the study is to identify the specific types of errors that occur and to explore the factors contributing to these mistakes. The research adopts a descriptive qualitative method to gather data, employing a written test as the data collection tool. To categorize the errors, a surface strategy taxonomy is utilized, which includes four categories: omission, addition, misformation, and misorder. By analyzing the collected data, a total of 214 errors were identified, with 95 instances of omission errors, 22 addition errors, 75 formation errors, and 22 ordering errors. The findings highlight that the most prevalent type of error made by students is omission, while misformation, misorder, and addition errors are relatively less frequent. In addition to error analysis, the study explores the reasons underlying these errors, particularly focusing on interlingual and intralingual transfer. Interlingual transfer refers to the influence of a student's first language on their second language usage, while intralingual transfer refers to the influence of existing knowledge and patterns within the second language itself. These factors contribute to the occurrence of errors in the simple present tense usage within descriptive texts.

This study examines the effect of using the Whisper Race Game on listening skills learning in Majene 5 Middle School students as English as foreign language learners. Based on the preliminary study in this school, the researcher found that listening was the most challenging aspect of English for students. The study was also intended to figure out the student's perceptions. The quantitative method was implemented with a quasi-experimental design. The data were analyzed by using the Likert scale. The samples of this study were two groups consisting of 14 students for the control group and 14 students for the experimental group number of students were selected randomly due to the limited number of students in this school. The researcher used a listening test (pretest and posttest) as an instrument. The study results show that the Whisper Race game method can significantly improve students' listening skills.

This research was conducted to find out how effective the application of the reading-aloud method is on the ability to read the Q.S Al Ma'un and its translation in English. This study aims to determine whether the reading-aloud method affects students' ability to read Q.S Al-Ma'un of the Quran and its English translation in the second semester of the Management Study Program at Muhammadiyah University of Pringsewu. This study employs a quasi-experimental methodology. The results showed that the experimental class's post-test score was 69.1, with a standard deviation of 8.22, and the practical class's pre-test score was 56.5, with a standard deviation of 8.53. The control class's post-test score was 60.40, with a standard deviation 9.68. The outcomes of the two tests are dissimilar. Additionally, both classes’-test results are 0.00. This indicates that the hypothesis is correct and that the reading-aloud strategy can help students become more proficient readers.

This research uses a qualitative approach to explore academic information-sharing skills among International Relations study program students. Through interviews with lecturers and students and classroom observations, this research observes interactions in learning English for Specific Purposes (ESP) with a focus on teaching active and passive sentences. By applying the Miles and Huberman model analysis, this research found that teaching active and passive sentences in the ESP approach had a positive and significant impact on the development of various skills, including information sharing, communication, writing, conceptual understanding, critical thinking, as well as student participation and interaction skills, in the context of studying International Relations. This approach also creates a collaborative learning environment where students actively participate in discussions, interact with lecturers and fellow students, and share experiences and knowledge related to learning material. The results of this research consistently support the effectiveness of teaching active and passive sentences in the ESP approach in improving communication, writing, critical thinking skills, and student participation and interaction in the context of learning International Relations. The implications of this research can be the basis for developing curriculum and teaching methods that are more effective in enriching ESP learning for International Relations students.
