Abstract

This community service program in Drien Rampak Village, Johan Pahlawan Aceh Barat, aimed to establish a sustainable waste management system through the "Branding Desa Mandiri Sampah" approach. Initial assessments revealed low community awareness and participation in waste management, with only 40% of households aware of its importance and 30% practicing waste separation. Through a series of educational outreach and training sessions on waste separation and composting techniques, the program significantly improved these figures. Post-program evaluations showed a remarkable increase in awareness to 85% and household participation in waste separation rose to 70%. Additionally, 50% of households adopted composting practices, with 40% successfully producing stable compost for domestic use. Despite these achievements, challenges such as technical difficulties in composting remain, highlighting the need for ongoing support and education. This initiative demonstrated that community-based approaches can foster substantial behavioral changes, making Drien Rampak Village a model for sustainable waste management that can be replicated in other rural areas.

Abstract

Farmers Developing Their Potential to Increase Agricultural Production Self-development for farmers must be achieved by shifting focus toward the use of organic fertilizers, supporting sustainable agriculture. The use of organic fertilizers is highly recommended to stimulate economic growth within farming communities in specific areas. Enhanced production and productivity serve as key indicators in achieving maximum yields, aiming for optimal farm income and profitability in agriculture. Increased production aligns with the balanced application of liquid fertilizers in rice cultivation. Farmers are expected to contribute positively to the sustainability of agriculture by applying liquid fertilizers to foster eco-farming and sustainable agricultural practices.

Abstract

Peukan Bada, situated near the North Sea in Aceh, was severely affected by the 2004 Aceh tsunami incident. This is the basis for the construction of the evacuation building shelter and first tsunami research center in Aceh, the Tsunami, Disaster, and Mitigation Research Center (TDMRC) in Peukan Bada, 2006. Peukan Bada, one of the areas affected by the tsunami incident, is also a destination for socialization sessions about disaster orientation and mitigation for local citizens. The intended socialization has been carried out in SD Negeri 1 Peukan Bada by Syiah Kuala University students majoring in Communication Studies. The method is carried out through a participatory method that focuses on reciprocal interaction between presenters and participants. Result: This dedication demonstrates that primary students' understanding of disaster and mitigation prior to socialization remains relatively common. The students were given knowledge about disaster and fire disaster mitigation tips and also earthquakes; messages and knowledge materials were delivered in an interesting way and communicative because it was accompanied by children’s games that train students’ concentration and courage to speak. This activity is organized using the participative method, so hopefully it can be a medium of disaster introduction and mitigation tips for students in SD Negeri 1 Peukan Bada.

Abstract

Food availability is a condition where household food needs are met sufficiently, both in terms of quantity and quality and affordable. The yard is one of the closest sources to produce food needs to meet family nutritional needs, and reduce shopping needs and and can increase household income. The purpose of this activity is to improve the community's capability in managing the yard and provide insight, knowledge and expertise in cultivating vegetables. The method of community service activities is observation or survey, socialization, monitoring and evaluation. The results of this activity are able to increase public awareness of family health and nutrition by 85.9%, motivate the community to cultivate vegetables by 93.3% and increase 100% of people who are able to cultivate food crops and horticulture. This community service activity is expected to provide knowledge about sustainable food houses, as well as skills in cultivating plants so that healthy and nutritious vegetables are obtained in every house in Jagong Jeget Village, Aceh Tengah Regency

Abstract

Suak Baru Village in Simeulue Regency, Aceh, faces challenges in waste management, particularly in the tourist area of Suak Baru Beach. This situation is exacerbated by the lack of adequate waste management facilities, leading to environmental pollution that threatens public health and the area's attractiveness to tourists. The design of this community service program aims to increase the community's preparedness for the adoption of environmentally friendly waste management technologies, specifically composting and plastic recycling methods. The activities include socialization, training, technology implementation, and program sustainability evaluation. The program's results show a significant improvement in the community’s understanding of effective waste management. The use of organic and plastic shredding technology successfully reduced waste volume and created economic value through recycled products. It is hoped that government support and active community participation will ensure the sustainability of this program for a cleaner, healthier environment and improved local economic welfare.

Abstract

Improving student career competency is a key focus that is increasingly being intensified in higher education. A policy that can support the flexibility to achieve this goal is through student exchanges across study programs within the same university. This policy provides students with the freedom to take courses from other study programs, thus broadening their horizons and skills beyond their primary field of study. This community service project aims to explore the impact of this policy on student career competency. The method used was observation and interviews with students who had the opportunity to participate in the cross-study program exchange program. The results of the community service program indicate that flexibility in choosing courses across study programs not only improves academic ability but also students' interpersonal skills and adaptability. Thus, the internal exchange policy across study programs can be an effective strategy in improving students' preparation for facing the challenges of an increasingly dynamic workplace.

Abstract

Anak-anak pekerja migran menghadapi berbagai tantangan dalam hidupnya termasuk keterbatasan akses layanan kesehatan dan pendidikan formal. Pemerintah telah berupaya dalam pemenuhan hak anak terhadap pendidikan, namun tingkat literasi anak pekerja migran cukup rendah, termasuk literasi karier. Program psikoedukasi ini bertujuan meningkatkan literasi karier anak pekerja migran Indonesia di Malaysia melalui pengenalan keberagaman profesi. Program dilaksanakan selama lima sesi, mencakup kegiatan ceramah, diskusi, role play, dan praktik kewirausahaan, dengan menggunakan modul dan media pohon cita-cita. Hasil menunjukkan peningkatan pengetahuan peserta tentang profesi konvensional dan kekinian, serta keterampilan dasar untuk perencanaan karier. Secara psikologis, kegiatan refleksi memperkuat kesadaran diri dan motivasi peserta untuk mengeksplorasi pilihan karier. Secara sosial, diskusi kelompok dan role play memperkuat keterampilan komunikasi dan kolaborasi peserta. Visualisasi aspirasi melalui pohon cita-cita memberikan rasa kepemilikan terhadap tujuan mereka. Meskipun demikian, evaluasi menunjukkan perlunya perencanaan karier yang lebih komprehensif dan peningkatan keterlibatan peserta dalam sesi kewirausahaan. Dengan pendekatan holistik, program ini membuka peluang implementasi serupa untuk mendukung hak pendidikan anak pekerja migran, membantu mereka meraih potensi secara optimal, dan berkontribusi pada pembangunan masyarakat.
