Abstract

The function of imagination is related to the speaker's creative ability in building meaning and expression through language. Imaginary language style is a power of the Qur'an in affirming itself as the word of God. This language style is able to transform the dead symbols of the Qur'anic language into a series of meanings that are alive and moving in the minds of its readers. This study uses a qualitative methodology based on library research which goes through theoretical studies and analysis of the literature that will be the primary material for this writing. In this case, books that specifically discuss the language style of the Qur'an, books of interpretation and books related to the Qur'an in general. The results of this study are then described and used as an analytical tool for the verses of the Qur'an. Imaginary language style is widely used in expressing things that are still abstract, such as the beauty of heaven, the horror of hell and the chaos of the apocalypse. In the discipline of Arabic stylistics, this imagination can be expressed following the patterns of simile, metaphor, metonymy, and figures of speech. Each pattern has a distinctive background and impression

Abstract

The ethics of humor in da'wah is a crucial issue, particularly in delivering Islamic messages inclusively and respectfully. This article analyzes the controversy sparked by Gus Miftah's joke about an iced tea vendor, which drew both support and criticism from the public. The study aims to explore the ethical boundaries of humor in da'wah to prevent misunderstandings or resistance from audiences. Using a descriptive qualitative method, data were collected through content analysis of the viral sermon and public responses to the joke. This article addresses a research gap by examining humor in da'wah as a strategic yet potentially divisive element, which has rarely been studied from the perspective of Islamic ethics. The novelty of this study lies in its critical analysis of humor in da'wah, considering cultural sensitivities and Islamic values. The findings reveal that humor violating ethical principles can lead to misunderstandings, damage a preacher's reputation, and incite division. Thus, ethical guidelines are essential for utilizing humor as an effective and harmonious da'wah strategy

Abstract

This article discusses the importance of understanding the concept of asbabun nuzul in the science of interpretation, especially in relation to understanding the text of the Qur'an in a socio-historical context. The purpose of this study is to explore two main perspectives on asbabun nuzul, namely micro and macro, and how these two approaches affect our understanding of the revelation of the Qur'an. This study uses a qualitative method with a literature study and analysis of interpretations of classical and contemporary texts, as well as hadith narrations that explain the reasons for the revelation of verses. The results of the study indicate that asbabun nuzul has an important role in interpreting the verses of the Qur'an, especially in providing relevant legal and socio-cultural contexts. This study also highlights the differences in views between salaf and khalaf scholars regarding the importance of asbabun nuzul in understanding the Qur'an. Thus, understanding asbabun nuzul can enrich interpretation and help interpret verses by considering the social situation and conditions of the era when the revelation was revealed

Abstract

The Caliphate as an Islamic-based government system has colored the history of Islamic world civilization for centuries. Since the life of the Prophet Saw until the era of Khulafaur Rashidin's reign. However, the discourse about its relevance and implementation in government is often colored by debates about the pros and cons, one of which is related to the existence of maudhu'i (thematic) hadiths that support or even discredit the Khilafah system. This research aims to examine the Maudhu'i (thematic) hadith of the Khilafah in the Islamic government discourse from a hadith perspective. The research methodology uses a qualitative approach with analysis of hadith texts and related literature. Research findings show that the existence of maudhu'i (thematic) hadith has sparked controversy and confusion in understanding the concept and model of the ideal Khilafah. Maudhu'i (thematic) hadiths supporting the Khilafah are often used by certain groups to legitimize claims of absolute authority and certain government structures. On the other hand, Maudhu'i hadiths which discredit the Khilafah are used by other parties to reject this model of government as a whole. This research concludes that to build a contextual and relevant Khilafah discourse in the modern era, critical awareness of the existence of the Maudhu'i hadith is needed. Tracing the sanad (chain of narration) and holistic analysis of the contents of hadith are crucial in selecting sources that are valid and reflect authentic Islamic teachings. In addition, it needs to be understood that the Khilafah is not a single and indisputable model, but rather a concept that must be adapted and interpreted according to the socio-political dynamics and needs of Muslims in the contemporary era

Abstract

There is a gap between Islamic law and positive law in Indonesia regarding the minimum age standards for women to marry. This gap appears contradictory when applied to Marriage Law no. 16 of 2019 concerning changes in the minimum age for women to marry from 16 years to 19 years. This change to the Marriage Law was carried out as a positive response from the government to answer increasingly complex socio-cultural demands. Meanwhile, Muslims in Indonesia are still guided by Islamic law, which only requires the age of puberty (15 years) as the age limit for marriage. This research aims to find the concept of marriage age in the Al-Quran and then contextualize it in the current phenomenon of women's marriage in Indonesia. This research uses the maudhûi interpretation method, conceptual thematic model and Fazlur Rahman's double movement hermeneutic approach. Data was obtained through library research, a type of qualitative research. The research results obtained show that the concept of age for women to marry is found in QS. An-Nisa'/4: 6 and QS. An-Nur/24: 32-33. The moral ideal of this verse is the age of marriage as a wise age. In the Indonesian context, the minimum age for women to marry is 19 years, and the ideal age is 25 years (the wise age)

Abstract

The issue addressed in this research originates from the implementation of classical religious traditions within modern farming communities in Gampong Waido. The primary objective of this study is to comprehend the extent to which the Quran becomes an integral part of the agricultural rituals perpetuated by the community, as well as to unearth the significance of this tradition in their daily lives. This research adopts a qualitative approach with a focus on field research. The research methods employed include ethnography and the Living Quran approach. The research findings elucidate that the application of verses in the khanduri blang ritual manifests in three forms: written recitations, talismans, and is classified into exegetical reception, where the community interprets Surah al-Baqarah/2:261 as the “agricultural verse.” Additionally, there is aesthetic reception, wherein the verses materialize in tangible forms with elements of beauty. Furthermore, there is a functional reception where the verses are utilized as remedies by the farmers. Moreover, these traditions and rituals serve as symbols that imbue meaning into the community's life, interpreted as expressions of mutual support, ancestral prayers, gratitude, blessings, and protection against adversity. Based on the analysis above, it is concluded that the Quranic verses manifested in the khanduri blang ritual are a tangible reflection of the Living Quran

Abstract

Human nature and its potential is one of the important themes in Islamic education. This theme discusses who humans really are and what potential they have. In the perspective of the Qur'an and hadith, humans are noble creatures and have extraordinary potential. These potentials include the mind, heart and soul. The intellect is the human potential to think and understand. The heart is the human potential to feel and live. The soul is the human potential for action and will. These three potentials must be developed optimally so that humans can achieve the perfection of their lives. An understanding of human nature and its potential is very important for Islamic educators. This understanding will help educators to understand the needs and characteristics of students. Thus, educators can provide education that is appropriate and in accordance with the potential of students.

Abstract

The aim of this research is to discuss the contemporary kalam thinking of two figures in Indonesian Islamic philosophy, Harun Nasution and HM. Rasjidi. In the history of Islamic thought, both of them are very well known among figures of Indonesian Islamic thought. This research uses qualitative research with data collection techniques, namely literature (library research) related to the theology of contemporary thought figures. The results of the research show that Harun Nasution's thinking in the concept of freedom and God's absolute will is more similar to the understanding of the Muktazilah theological school. Regarding God's justice, Harun Nasution compares and explains several schools of Islamic theology without taking sides. In understanding destiny and sunatullah, Harun emphasized the use of reason because this will influence the productive nature of the people which will have an impact on the development and progress of the Muslim community. In Harun's view, mysticism or Sufism is considered neo-Sufism. Meanwhile, HM Rasjidi is of the view that kalam science is not the same as theology. Rasyidi's view of faith is that it does not just unite humans with God, but can also be seen from the consequential dimension or human-human relationship, namely life in society

Abstract

Jihad in an Islamic perspective has many meanings, including fighting in the way of Allah (fis sabilillah). The Qur'an as a guide for Muslims explains several things related to jihad. In this article, there are three discussions about the aims and objectives behind the implicit and unspoken texts of the verses about jihad. First aim is to upholding Allah's religion. Second aim is to protect Muslims in Mecca from destruction and loss. This aim is motivated by several considerations which are the background revelation QS. An Nisa'/4: 77. Third aim is to protect the dignity of the Muslim community and maintain their existence. This goal is the background for revelation Q.S. Al-Taubah/9: 73. This research is library research by studying and examining the verses about jihad in the Qur’an which means war, then interpreting these verses using “tafsir maqasidi” application. It is hoped that this article will become one of the treasures of “tafsir maqasidi”. Apart from that, it is also hoped that this article will be able to provide insight for Muslims, especially in the Indonesian context regarding the beneficial objectives behind the jihad verses in the Qur’an

Abstract

The Qur'an is a holy book that is a guide for mankind (hudan linnas), but in order for humans to find the instructions in the Qur'an, humans must try to understand it. Understanding the Qur'an is not an easy matter because it must fulfill various strict requirements in it so that although the truth of interpretation of the Qur'an remains relative, not everyone can do it. There are two approaches used to understand the Qur'an, namely textual and contextual. Textual and contextual approaches have always colored the journey of Muslims. This research is a library research, which is a research that uses literature in its implementation. The results of this study indicate that the collaboration of textual and contextual understanding has a very important role in shaping a moderate attitude in religion
