Abstract

The purpose of this study is to describe the duality that exists in al-asmâ al-ẖusnâ which contradicts one another. Such as the nature of al-Qâbidh (The Most Narrowing) but also al-Bâsith (The Most Expanding), al-Khâfidh (The Most Humbling) paradox with ar-Râfi’ (The Most Elevating). This study uses a qualitative method with descriptive-analysis by explaining in full about al-asmâ al-ẖusnâ. Then analyze it using the maudhû’i method, namely collecting verses related to al-asmâ al-ẖusnâ and connecting one verse to another with a comprehensive correlation. After that, the author looks for the meaning of each al-asmâ al-ẖusnâ. The results of this study are that in the periodization of revelation using the theory of revelation in the Qur'an, Allah informs or emphasizes more on His jamâliyah attributes than on His jalâliyah attributes. This can generally be resolved by understanding that the attributes of Allah are not contradictory to one another, but complementary. The attributes of compassion (ar-raẖmân) and the attributes (al-muntaqim) of Allah are not contradictory, but mutually supportive, so that, if sometimes they appear contradictory from a limited human perspective, but in a broader view, the two attributes are combined and harmonious in the greatness of Allah. Al-asmâ al-ẖusnâ seems paradoxical because human understanding is still partial, not comprehensive. It is not the attributes of Allah that are contradictory, but human understanding of Allah is partial. As a result, it seems as if there is a paradox in His names.

Abstract

This study aims to explain the concepts of ontology, epistemology, axiology, and their actualization in Islamic studies, especially in the study of interpretation. The focus is to understand the nature, sources, benefits, and objectives of Islamic education through a philosophical perspective. This study uses a qualitative approach with a type of library research. Data were obtained from various primary and secondary sources, including books, journals, and related articles. The data analysis technique used is qualitative analysis, with the process of collecting, processing, and reviewing relevant literature. The results of the study show that ontology, namely Islamic studies, includes the nature of human existence, nature, and God based on Islamic norms. Epistemology, namely knowledge in Islam comes from the senses, reason, intuition, inspiration, and revelation, with an emphasis on the harmonization of rationality and revelation. Axiology, namely Islamic studies aim to integrate Islamic values in human life, creating individuals who are devout and do good deeds. Actualization, namely philosophical thinking is applied in the reinterpretation of Islamic teachings to be in line with the development of science and technology, allowing for practical implementation in society. This study emphasizes the importance of Islamic philosophy as a framework for understanding Islamic education comprehensively and relevant to contemporary challenges.

Abstract

Stephen Hawking, a realist who adheres to positivism, asserts that the universe was created without God. This perspective considers nature to be only matter, an entity without a soul. On the other hand, one of the factors causing environmental damage is the anthropocentric paradigm that considers humans as the most important element in the universe. Ironically, this paradigm uses the holy book of the heavenly religions to legitimize its thinking, as found in Genesis 1:28 and the Qur'an in Surah al-Baqarah [2]: 29. In the interpretation of the Qur'an, to find a concept is not enough with just one verse, a series of steps need to be taken in order to produce a comprehensive interpretation. For this reason, the Maudu'i interpretation method is used to explore the concept of the Qur'an about the creation of the universe and its maintenance and how humans function in the universe. The authors found that: 1. With the Rububiyah dimension, Allah SWT is the Creator, Owner, Manager and Maintainer of nature. Humans are the khalifatullah/representatives of Allah SWT on earth who are allowed to use natural resources while maintaining their sustainability. 2. Ecotheology in the Qur'an can be understood in the sense: "The science that studies the interaction between creatures in their ecosystem based on the verses of takwn (universe/ecology) and tadwn (Qur'anic texts as the basis of theology)." Ecotheology is related to efforts to preserve the environment through balancing human rights and obligations towards nature and respect for the human rights of nature. This is because in the Qur'an, both humans and nature have their respective roles and purposes of creation as fellow creations of God. Humans as khalifah fi al-‘ard}/prosperers of the earth and nature are partners of humans in carrying out this mandate. Nature is the same as humans as fellow creations of God (ukhuwah makhluqiyyah) who also have the right to worship, develop and live in groups in their communities

Abstract

The relationship between the ahlul bait-family of the Prophet Muhammad Saw and the habaib (Ba'alwi family) has become an important study in Islamic tradition, especially in the context of their history and social role in the Islamic world. Ahlul bait have a special position in Islam because of their direct lineage to the Prophet Muhammad, as stated in various narrations and interpretations of the Qur'an (Al-Ahzab/33: 33). On the other hand, habaib, especially the Ba'alwi family, is known as one of the branches of ahlul bait which has had a great influence, especially in the spread of Islam in the archipelago. Understanding this correlation is important to examine how their spiritual legitimacy and leadership are built, both in religious and social aspects. Furthermore, this research aims to explain how the values inherited from the ahlul bait are passed on through the habaib tradition and their impact on the development of local Islam. Therefore, it is hoped that this discussion can make a significant contribution to Islamic studies, especially in revealing the dynamic role of spirituality and family traditions in the formation of Muslim identity in the archipelago.

Abstract

This paper explores the phenomenon of "flexing" or showing off found in various verses on social media, and its contextualization from a psychological perspective. This phenomenon not only reflects social and cultural dynamics, but also has profound implications for individual mental health and social behavior. Using theoretical approaches from social and clinical psychology, this paper analyzes the motivation behind flexing, its impact on self-esteem, and how this phenomenon affects social perception and interaction. The method used is quantitative descriptive of the development of psychology to determine the motivation behind this behavior, and its impact on mental health, as well as social media that reinforces this tendency. The results of this study are that Islam emphasizes that showing off behavior is part of riya' (arrogance) which is strictly prohibited. Verses of the Qur'an such as QS Luqman (31:18) and QS Al-Baqarah (2:264) remind people not to be excessively proud of wealth. The concept of Tahadduts bi al-Ni'mah in Islam allows mentioning pleasures on condition that one is not arrogant or riya'. Flexing is also considered an act that can damage social relationships and shows a lack of gratitude to Allah.

Abstract

This study aims to explore the epistemological dimension of huda in the Qur'an as a framework relevant to addressing global challenges such as inclusive education, social sustainability, and economic justice. This research employs a qualitative approach using the library research method, analyzing primary and secondary sources related to the concept of huda. The study seeks to uncover the potential of huda as a set of universal values applicable in modern contexts. The research background highlights the dominance of normative approaches in Islamic studies, which often overlook the relevance of social contexts and global challenges, thus limiting innovation in Islamic intellectual discourse. The results indicate that huda holds great potential to be developed into practical guidelines, especially through multidisciplinary integration such as technology and education rooted in Islamic values. However, the study also identifies obstacles, including a lack of interdisciplinary collaboration and resistance to innovation in Islamic studies. The novelty of this research lies in identifying a significant gap in the exploration of the epistemological dimension of huda, which has been largely underexamined in Islamic discourse, and emphasizing the need for a paradigm shift from normative to more progressive approaches. This study contributes conceptually to developing Qur'anic interpretations that are more relevant to contemporary challenges and applicable in addressing global needs.

Abstract

This study examines the historicity of stories in the Qur'an to address debates about whether these narratives are historical facts or myths. The research aims to analyze the use of dalil naqli, including the Qur'an, Hadith, and consensus of scholars (ijma'), to support the factual paradigm while critiquing the myth paradigm that questions the authenticity of Qur'anic stories. The method employed is contextual critical historical analysis, using a qualitative approach based on library research. The findings reveal that the stories in the Qur'an are historical facts, validated through Qur'anic texts affirming their truth, corroborated by Hadith, and supported by the consensus of scholars. These narratives not only feature compelling accounts but also hold significant ibrah (lessons), offering spiritual, moral, and social guidance for readers. Conversely, the myth paradigm, which views Qur'anic stories as mere fabrications, risks eroding their educational value and undermining the Qur'an's authority as a holy scripture. This research makes a critical contribution by affirming the Qur'an's status as a source of knowledge containing historical truths, while also highlighting the enduring relevance of its lessons for human life. The findings strengthen the understanding that Qur'anic stories serve not only as spiritual learning tools but also as authentic evidence of historical narratives, thereby playing a vital role in enhancing the faith and comprehension of the Qur'an's magnificence among believers.

Abstract

Understanding the differences between Makkiyah and Madaniyah verses in the study of Qur'anic interpretation is essential to understand the evolution of Islamic teachings and their application in various contexts. The Makkiyah verses, which were revealed before the Hijrah, emphasize the basic teachings of faith, life after death, and morality, while the Madaniyah verses, which were revealed after the Prophet Muhammad migrated to Medina, focus on social, legal, and political aspects. This study aims to analyze the orientalist and occidentalist views on these differences and their impact on the understanding of Qur'anic texts. This study uses a descriptive qualitative approach with thematic analysis of primary and secondary sources, including classical and modern interpretations as well as orientalist and occidentalist works. The results show that orientalists emphasize more historical-critical aspects in examining these verses, while occidentalist thinkers focus on contextualizing Islamic teachings with Western social theory. An understanding of the differences between Makkiyah and Madaniyah verses is essential for refuting orientalist and occidentalist claims, as well as for adapting interpretations in the face of contemporary social challenges.
