Abstract

This research aims to examine the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the career reorientation of fresh graduates at Indonesian universities. This study is necessary to determine the changes in attitudes and perceptions of recent graduates as they seek employment, as measured by indicators of psychological quality, gender, and spiritual level. Three Focus Group Discussion meetings were held to achieve the best results, and questionnaires were distributed to 85 resource people. Furthermore, an interpretive analysis model was used to describe the differences in job attainment experienced by respondents before, during, and after the COVID-19 pandemic. According to the study's findings, several changes occurred in the career orientation of fresh graduates from various universities in Indonesia before, during, and after COVID-19. Before the COVID-19 pandemic, fresh graduates had a strong career orientation, as evidenced by their high absorption of job opportunities. Unlike the results of the COVID-19 pandemic, the impact of COVID-19 on new graduates' careers is significant, affecting mental and physical health as well as social interactions. Keywords: Career reorientation; Fresh Graduates; Higher Education; Human Resources; COVID-19

Abstract

The Covid-19 Pandemic is not halting the corruption cases in Asia Pacific; some countries such as North Korea, Malaysia, Thailand, the Philippines, and even China. Nevertheless, Indonesia also suffers from Covid-19 corruption scandals. Corruption cases like social aid corruption by the ex-Social Minister, Juliari Batubara, and vaccines fund corruption by North Sumatera Provincial Health Office authorities are two prominent examples of corruption cases amid the pandemic. Through these cases, such questions as ‘why does corruption in Indonesia still exist even in the Covid-19 pandemic?’ arise. Such cases as the mentioned examples prove that social justice establishment is a concern in Indonesia while the global good governance campaign is not stopping even in pandemics. We argue that such corruption cases affect the Indonesian government to give social justice and lose its responsibility sense to the citizen through a global good governance perspective.

It believes that giving people the freedom to manage their own work and make decisions improves their performance. Quality of work life aims to instill a culture of work commitment within organizations and society at large in order to improve job satisfaction and employee performance. The fulfillment of seven needs health and safety needs, economic and family needs, social needs, esteem needs, actualization needs, knowledge needs, and aesthetic needs ensures the quality of work-life. Organisations in Nigeria have a reputation for ignoring decent work practices and embracing precarious working conditions to the detriment of the populace. The country's organisations appear to be primarily concerned with increasing profits at the expense of employee welfare. The purpose of this study is to investigate work-life balance policy and practice in Nigeria. To gather data, relevant information was extracted from conference papers, public records, textbooks, journals, and other sources. According to this study, a work-life balance requires planning, and the most prosperous people have found happiness in both the short- and long-term by developing a barometer to help them manage their lives. This study recommends among other things that availability and use of work-life balance practices, when provided in the context of supervisor and organisational support can reduce work-life conflict and increase positive appraisals of one’s organisation. These effects are often associated with employee attitudes such as increased job satisfaction and enhanced control over their work schedule.

Abstract

This paper x-rayed the importance of constitutional review as the instrument or tool to achieve effectiveness; in the local government systems of Delta and Edo States. It is rather good to mention that every system whether as a body or an institution of governance needs good legislations as a constitutional framework to enable its performance or pragmatism because without it there will not be direction of focus as well as accountability, hence the constitution is the oxygen of the state as well as government in the forms of arms, tiers and agencies. Local government performance in Nigeria, especially Delta and Edo States as the focal points is at dismal state in terms of performance, rural communities are a continuous shadow of themselves and this is as a consequence to the faulty constitutional arrangements that has gone a long way to pervasively strangulated this third tier of government to the extent that their essence of creation is far apart from the reality on ground. Thus, this constitutional deformity has spiral into various problems such as oppression from the state agencies, general indiscipline among the cadre of workers in the local government system, inadequacy of skilled workers among others. The study therefore, arrived at some recommendations such as: The need for urgent constitutional review to reform the laws that dictate the whims and caprices of the local government system, local government autonomy entailing financial and administration should be ensured, the state joint local government account should be entirely abolished. The study concludes that the legislature as an organ of government should be sincere to enforce the political will of a good constitutional reform for an effective local government performance.
