Abstract

This study investigates the effectiveness of the Show and Tell method in improving the Maharah Kalam skills of grade X students of MAN 2 Bandar Lampung. Using Classroom Action Research (PTK) and a mixed method approach (70% quantitative, 30% qualitative), this study collected quantitative data through oral tests of Maharah Kalam at the pre-action stage until cycle 2 to measure the numerical improvement of students' speaking ability. Qualitative data, obtained through observation and descriptive questionnaires, was used to understand more deeply the perceptions and reasons behind students' interest in learning. The results showed significant improvement in Maharah Kalam proficiency, as evidenced by the increase in the average score of the oral test from pre-action to cycle 2. The qualitative data provided context that reinforced these quantitative findings, explaining how Show and Tell impacted on students' motivation, confidence and interaction in learning Maharah Kalam. This study concludes that Show and Tell is an effective learning alternative to improve students' Arabic speaking skills.

Abstract

This study analyzes the symbols in the Arabic short story al-Mutharadah using Ferdinandd de Saussure’s structural semiotics approach. The topic is significant because literary works often contain deep symbolic meanings that require proper analytical tools for full comprehension. This study aims to help readers—especially non-Arabic speakers—grasp the social and moral messages embedded in the story by interpreting its linguistic and visual signs. A qualitative descriptive method is employed, based on an interpretive paradigm. Data were collected from both the narrative content and visual elements of the al-Mutharadah book and were analyzed using Saussure’s concepts of signifiedr and signifiedd. The study finds that visual elements, such as the whip depicted on the book cover, symbolize social criticism, highlighting the lack of moral responsibility in society. Within the narrative, the image of a breastfeeding baby represents both a mother’s love as a divine gift and the heavy burden of responsibility. The study concludes that al-Mutharadah is rich in symbolic meaning and offers strong social criticism against patriarchy and abuse of power. It recommends the use of semiotic approaches when analyzing Arabic literary texts to uncover hidden meanings in a more scientific and comprehensive manner.

Abstract

This study aims to develop Arabic language learning media using Wordwall to support instructional effectiveness at the Madrasah Ibtidaiyah level. The research employed a Research and Development (R&D) approach using the ADDIE model, comprising five stages: Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation. Expert validations by content and media specialists indicated that the developed media is very valid. Practicality tests conducted with students and teachers revealed that the media is highly practical for classroom implementation. The interactive features of Wordwall were found to enhance student engagement and facilitate vocabulary acquisition. The findings suggest that the media is not only valid and practical but also contributes to improving the quality of Arabic language instruction in Madrasah Ibtidaiyah through the integration of technology-based learning tools.

Abstract

Learning and teaching a foreign language is challenging, but research has developed effective methods to teach it in a short time with reasonable effort. The difficulty of acquiring a language depends on the learner's age and environment. Children need more time than adults, and learners in a language’s native environment require less time than those in unfamiliar environments. This study investigates how the mother tongue influences Arabic language acquisition among new students at Darunnajah Islamic Boarding School in Jakarta. This research aims to analyze the factors that lead to the influence of the mother tongue on acquiring the Arabic language. The researcher used a qualitative approach for this study, and the data collection method for this research is divided into three sections: observation, interviews, and documentation. The findings identify three main factors: (a) internal factors (psychological), such as stress and motivation, which affect language acquisition, with each student's motivation differing due to the language's novelty; (b) external factors (linguistic environment), where the environment plays a key role in motivating students, including interactions with teachers, senior students, and staff; and (c) the curriculum, which must align with the needs of beginner students learning Arabic.

Abstract

This study aims to identify Arabic language teachers' views regarding the implementation of an independent curriculum to instruct Arabic in Banten. These include teachers' awareness, acceptability, and assessment of the curriculum, and the factors and barriers faced in its implementation. Under a qualitative descriptive design, data were collected via observations, open-ended questionnaires, interviews, and documents. The results indicate that teachers' attitudes are positive and cooperative in general. Although there are some variations in comprehension and readiness, most teachers appreciate the independency and usability of the independent curriculum, especially regarding providing space for creativity and contextualization. Training experience, initiative on the part of individuals, support from the school principals, and accessibility of facilities are found to be the factors contributing to successful implementation. Nevertheless, it is limited by limited teaching hours, differences in the backgrounds of students, low learning motivation, and a lack of special preparatory training to instruct the Arabic language. In overcoming these, teachers employ creative teaching approaches and improve on teamwork among themselves. The initiative is to be applied as a point of reference for policymakers, schools, and teachers to further enhance the implementation of the independent curriculum in Arabic language instruction.
