Abstract

MSMEs are pivotal to Indonesia’s economy, yet many face challenges in achieving long-term sustainability, particularly in balancing economic, social, and environmental outcomes. The study specifically examines the direct effects of gender-responsive entrepreneurial orientation and fintech adoption on MSME sustainability, as well as the indirect effects moderated by triple bottom line dimensions. Primary data were collected via structured surveys from MSME owners and managers who have implemented gender-inclusive entrepreneurial practices and fintech solutions. Structural Equation Modeling using SmartPLS was employed to test both the direct and moderation relationships. The results indicate that gender-responsive entrepreneurial orientation and fintech positively influence MSME sustainable performance, with the triple bottom line moderating these effects. Notably, the social dimension of the triple bottom line amplifies the impact of gender-responsive entrepreneurial orientation, while the economic and environmental dimensions strengthen the influence of fintech adoption. These findings offer actionable insights for policymakers, practitioners, and MSME stakeholders by highlighting the importance of integrating gender-inclusive strategies and digital financial solutions to enhance competitiveness, social impact, and long-term sustainability.

Abstract

The rising global emphasis on Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles, driven by regulatory pressure, stakeholder expectations, and strategic demands for long-term resilience, has made the internal integration of ESG values into corporate culture an urgent priority for organizations, including those in Indonesia. This study examines how companies in Indonesia build a corporate culture based on environmental, social, and governance principles. The main goal is to explore the process of aligning these principles with the company vision and mission, identify integration challenges, and assess impacts on employee and organizational performance. A qualitative approach with multiple case studies was used in two Indonesian firms, one multinational and one local. Data came from in-depth interviews, document reviews, and observations. Findings show that strong top leadership commitment and a mindset shift are essential to make these principles part of the core business strategy. Key practices include renewable energy investments, vehicle fleet changes to electric, employee health programs, and community water projects. Challenges involve limited regulations and low understanding among business owners. Positive outcomes include higher employee engagement, productivity, and appeal to younger talent. Successful integration turns these principles into organizational identity, creating shared value and competitive advantage through authentic daily practices.

Abstract

This study investigates the influence of implementing the business model canvas on the performance of micro, small, and medium enterprises in rural areas. The Business Model Canvas integrates nine components of business design, including customer relationship, customer segment, cost structure, channel, key activities, key partners, key resources, revenue stream, and value proposition. The objective of this study is to analyze how the structured use of these elements can strengthen business effectiveness and competitiveness within rural development contexts. A quantitative research method was applied through the distribution of questionnaires to business owners in rural communities. The collected data were analyzed using the partial least squares structural equation modeling method to examine the relationship between the implementation of the business model canvas and enterprise performance. The results indicate that the structured application of the business model canvas significantly improves the performance of micro, small, and medium enterprises. Enhanced partnerships, effective communication channels, and strong customer value propositions are identified as major contributors to better organizational outcomes. Practically, this study provides useful insights for policymakers and development agencies in formulating strategic management initiatives that support innovation, efficiency, and adaptability in rural entrepreneurship.

Abstract

Sumedang Regency, rich in geological and cultural heritage, holds significant potential for geotourism development, yet faces challenges in delivering meaningful visitor experiences. This study aims to explore tourists’ perceptions of geotourism development in Sumedang from a social tourism perspective, focusing on their emotional, cognitive, and cultural interactions with key sites. Using a qualitative case study approach, data were collected through in-depth interviews with eighteen tourists, participatory observations, and visual documentation, including photographs and visual interpretations. Analysis revealed three main themes: the natural beauty of sites like Mount Tampomas and Jatigede Reservoir lacks educational narratives, limited infrastructure hinders access and diminishes satisfaction, and tourists desire greater involvement with local culture and narratives. These findings highlight the need for enhanced interpretive media and community engagement to transform superficial experiences into meaningful ones. The study, limited to domestic tourists and a short observation period, concludes that Sumedang’s geotourism can thrive by integrating geological education, improving infrastructure, and empowering local communities as storytellers. These insights contribute to understanding geotourism as a socially constructed process and offer practical strategies for sustainable destination development in Sumedang.

Abstract

The tourism industry represents a major contributor to global greenhouse gas emissions, positioning carbon offsetting as a crucial pathway toward sustainable transition. This study aims to map and synthesize the scholarly literature on carbon offsetting in Indonesia’s hospitality and tourism sector, examining the extent and configuration of sectoral participation in carbon offsetting and analyzing the regulatory, economic, operational, and market-related factors that enable or constrain the adoption and scaling of carbon offsetting across the sector aligning with national net-zero emission 2060 goals. Employing a systematic literature review guided by PRISMA 2020 protocols, 30 peer-reviewed articles published between 2020 and 2025 were analyzed to ensure methodological rigor and replicability. The findings reveal that carbon offsetting practices are largely indirect and voluntary, focusing on reforestation, waste management, and energy efficiency rather than participation in verified carbon credit markets. While policy support and environmental awareness serve as key enablers, adoption remains limited by weak verification standards, insufficient technical capacity, high costs, and low consumer trust. The study concludes that a multi-level governance framework integrating transparent MRV systems, institutional strengthening, and stakeholder collaboration is essential to transform tourism’s potential into measurable contributions to Indonesia’s decarbonization agenda.

Abstract

Environmental concerns have prompted organizations to integrate sustainability into human resource practices, yet the implementation of environmentally focused practices in Indonesia’s public sector remains limited. This study aims to investigate the effect of environmentally oriented human resource management practices on employees’ green behavior and performance, with supportive leadership examined as a moderating variable. Data were collected from employees of the Central Bureau of Statistics in North Sumatra Province using a ten-point Likert-scale survey and analyzed through structural equation modeling. The findings reveal that environmentally oriented human resource management significantly enhances both green behavior and employee performance. Green behavior also contributes to improved performance, serving as a key mechanism linking sustainable human resource practices with work outcomes. Additionally, supportive leadership strengthens the impact of these practices by fostering environmental responsibility and employee engagement. The study underscores the theoretical relevance of environmentally focused human resource management in Indonesia’s public sector and highlights the critical role of leadership in promoting sustainability. Structured environmental programs, transparent communication, and reward systems are recommended to cultivate a culture of environmental responsibility.

Abstract

This study develops and validates the integrated business foundation strategy model through a phenomenological approach in the context of value-based strategic alignment. Using a phenomenological design with purposive sampling, this research explores how the 5S character foundations (Satya, Drishti, Shakti, Sangha, Samvedana) in the integrated business foundation strategy framework mediate business-IT strategic alignment. Data were collected through in-depth interviews with 12 key informants, 120 hours of participatory observation, and document analysis during February 2020 - December 2024. Data analysis employed interpretative phenomenological analysis with an intercoder reliability of 0.87. The findings reveal that the 5S integrated business foundation strategy model constructs function as strategic alignment catalysts through the character-strategy alignment effect mechanism. Analysis shows vertical alignment between Drishti (eco-friendly vision) and IT infrastructure increased energy efficiency by 25%, while horizontal alignment based on Sangha (collaboration) reduced coordination costs by 30%. This study provides significant theoretical contributions through the development of an empirically validated integrated business foundation strategy model, character-strategy alignment effect concept as a mediation mechanism, and value-based strategic alignment framework in the context of the Indonesian green industry.

Abstract

The rising manning cost over the past three years has become a prominent issue at PT Pertamina International Shipping, where this expense accounts for the largest share of the company’s operational expenditure. This study examines the key factors driving the increase in manning cost and explores how cost efficiency strategies can be applied within the crewing function. Employing a qualitative approach, data were collected through observations, semi-structured interviews with three key personnel, and analysis of financial reports and crew service records over an 11-month period in 2022–2023. The findings reveal three primary inefficiencies scheduling discrepancies causing 2–7 days of delays, suboptimal invoice verification leading to monthly overpayments of approximately 50–100 million rupiah, and overstaffing beyond minimum crew requirements, inflating costs by 10–15%. These inefficiencies result in avoidable expenses of 1–1.5 billion rupiah monthly. The study recommends adopting digital scheduling tools, automated verification systems, and optimized crew allocation to reduce costs while maintaining operational safety. These strategies can save billions annually, improve crew welfare, and contribute to maritime management literature by addressing cost efficiency in state-owned enterprises, offering a blueprint for Indonesia’s shipping industry.

Abstract

Social media development and the phenomenon of meme marketing have become increasingly viral. The shift from traditional advertising to community-based and participatory content, such as memes, has emerged as a trending notion in contemporary marketing. This shift has necessitated companies to become more innovative in capturing attention, engaging consumers, and fostering loyalty. This research aims to examine the relationship between virality meme marketing, brand personality, and consumer loyalty, with brand engagement acting as a mediator. This study employs a quantitative approach, utilizing PLS-SEM through SmartPLS 4.0 software, with a sample of 220 active respondents. The questionnaire was distributed online using Google Forms, and purposive sampling was applied. The findings indicate that virality meme marketing, and brand personality have a significant enhancing effect on brand engagement, which in turn mediates the effect on customer loyalty. However, a surprising finding emerged regarding the direct effect of virality meme marketing on customer loyalty, where virality meme marketing negatively and insignificantly influences customer loyalty.
