Abstract

The level of youth participation in sports in Indonesia needs attention, while on the other hand, the use of social media in the lives of young people is becoming increasingly widespread. This situation raises questions about whether there is a relationship between these two phenomena, particularly in the city of Palopo. This study aims to analyze the influence of social media use on the level of youth participation in sports in the city. A quantitative approach was applied using a survey method with an online questionnaire (Google Form) distributed to 100 adolescents aged 10-24 years as a sample, selected using purposive sampling. The collected data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and tested using Spearman's correlation and simple linear regression. The results showed that there was no significant relationship between social media use and sports participation (p = 0.291 > 0.05). Further regression analysis also confirmed that there was no significant effect (p = 0.881 > 0.05), with an R² value of 0.034. The conclusion of this study is that social media use does not significantly affect youth sports participation in Palopo City, where only 3.4% of the variation in sports participation can be explained by social media, while the remaining 96.6% is influenced by other factors.

Abstract

The low quality of crescent kick skills, which includes aspects of speed, accuracy, strength, balance, and coordination. This is often caused by a lack of leg muscle strength and body stability, which are vital physical components to support the effectiveness of kicking techniques. This study aims to empirically test the effect of weight training on improving the skill of the sabit kick in Pencak Silat athletes from the Persinas ASAD Academy in Palopo City. The method used is a quasi-experiment with a one-group pretest-posttest design. The sample consisted of 10 athletes selected through purposive sampling. The intervention consisted of a leg muscle weight training program (such as squats, lunges, calf raises, and leg presses). Data were collected using a validated observation sheet and analyzed using a paired sample t-test. The results of the study proved a significant increase, where the average score for scythe kick skills rose from 65.30 (fair category) in the pretest to 79.60 (good category) in the posttest. The t-test results showed a significance value of 0.000 (p < 0.05). The conclusion of this study is that weight training has a significant and positive effect on improving the skill of the sabit kick.

Abstract

This study aims to examine physical education teachers' perceptions of the implementation of rhythmic gymnastics curriculum in elementary schools using a qualitative literature review method. This study reviews various research sources that discuss teachers' attitudes, understanding, and challenges in implementing the curriculum in the field. The results of the review of six articles that met the inclusion criteria show that teachers generally recognize the importance of rhythmic gymnastics in developing students' motor skills, coordination, and creativity, as well as contributing positively to children's health and physical development. However, there are significant obstacles in the form of limited teacher competence, which affects their confidence and teaching effectiveness, as well as inadequate supporting facilities and infrastructure in some elementary schools. In addition, differences in the level of experience and training of teachers also affect their readiness and attitude towards the implementation of the rhythmic gymnastics curriculum. The conclusion of this study confirms that improving teacher competence through continuous training and the provision of adequate facilities are strategic steps needed to support optimal implementation of the curriculum. These findings are expected to serve as a reference for policy makers and education practitioners.

Abstract

The problem underlying this study is that many athletes and students still have difficulty producing hard, fast, and accurate volleyball smashes. This is due to limited leg muscle power, vertical jump height, and movement coordination. This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of two plyometric training methods, namely depth jump and jump to box, in improving volleyball smash skills. The method used was a literature review, analyzing ten relevant previous studies from 2015 to 2025. The results of the study showed that both exercises were effective in increasing leg muscle power, vertical jump height, and smash performance. Depth jumps tend to be more optimal for advanced athletes because they require high muscle reactivity, while jump to box is more suitable for beginners because it is safer and emphasizes movement control. The conclusion of this study is that although both are effective, the choice of method must be tailored to the athlete's level. A combination of both exercises is recommended to produce a more comprehensive improvement in smash skills.

Abstract

This research was conducted in March–May 2025 at Nusa Cendana University (UNDANA), Kupang, with the aim of analyzing the biomechanics of upper limb movements in two basic volleyball techniques, namely jump serve and spike. This research began from the importance of understanding biomechanics in improving performance while preventing shoulder and elbow injuries in university volleyball athletes. The research method used a quantitative descriptive approach with a high-speed video-based motion analysis technique (240 fps) analyzed using Kinovea software. The research sample consisted of 20 volleyball athletes from UKM UNDANA (10 male and 10 female) selected by purposive sampling. Parameters included joint angles, arm swing speed, and upper body segment momentum. The results showed that the optimal shoulder angle in the spike (165° ± 4.1) was greater than the jump serve (155° ± 3.6), with a higher arm swing speed in the spike (18.2 m/s ± 1.3) than the serve (14.5 m/s ± 1.1). The arm momentum value for the spike (7.8 kg·m/s ± 0.9) was also greater than the serve (6.2 kg·m/s ± 0.7). An independent t-test showed a significant difference (p < 0.05) in these three parameters. In conclusion, the spike exerted greater shoulder tension, a more explosive swing speed, and greater momentum than the jump serve. These results suggest that coaches should design exercises that synchronize movement and strengthen the shoulder muscles.
