Abstract

The level of youth participation in sports in Indonesia needs attention, while on the other hand, the use of social media in the lives of young people is becoming increasingly widespread. This situation raises questions about whether there is a relationship between these two phenomena, particularly in the city of Palopo. This study aims to analyze the influence of social media use on the level of youth participation in sports in the city. A quantitative approach was applied using a survey method with an online questionnaire (Google Form) distributed to 100 adolescents aged 10-24 years as a sample, selected using purposive sampling. The collected data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and tested using Spearman's correlation and simple linear regression. The results showed that there was no significant relationship between social media use and sports participation (p = 0.291 > 0.05). Further regression analysis also confirmed that there was no significant effect (p = 0.881 > 0.05), with an R² value of 0.034. The conclusion of this study is that social media use does not significantly affect youth sports participation in Palopo City, where only 3.4% of the variation in sports participation can be explained by social media, while the remaining 96.6% is influenced by other factors.

Abstract

The low quality of crescent kick skills, which includes aspects of speed, accuracy, strength, balance, and coordination. This is often caused by a lack of leg muscle strength and body stability, which are vital physical components to support the effectiveness of kicking techniques. This study aims to empirically test the effect of weight training on improving the skill of the sabit kick in Pencak Silat athletes from the Persinas ASAD Academy in Palopo City. The method used is a quasi-experiment with a one-group pretest-posttest design. The sample consisted of 10 athletes selected through purposive sampling. The intervention consisted of a leg muscle weight training program (such as squats, lunges, calf raises, and leg presses). Data were collected using a validated observation sheet and analyzed using a paired sample t-test. The results of the study proved a significant increase, where the average score for scythe kick skills rose from 65.30 (fair category) in the pretest to 79.60 (good category) in the posttest. The t-test results showed a significance value of 0.000 (p < 0.05). The conclusion of this study is that weight training has a significant and positive effect on improving the skill of the sabit kick.

Abstract

This study aims to examine physical education teachers' perceptions of the implementation of rhythmic gymnastics curriculum in elementary schools using a qualitative literature review method. This study reviews various research sources that discuss teachers' attitudes, understanding, and challenges in implementing the curriculum in the field. The results of the review of six articles that met the inclusion criteria show that teachers generally recognize the importance of rhythmic gymnastics in developing students' motor skills, coordination, and creativity, as well as contributing positively to children's health and physical development. However, there are significant obstacles in the form of limited teacher competence, which affects their confidence and teaching effectiveness, as well as inadequate supporting facilities and infrastructure in some elementary schools. In addition, differences in the level of experience and training of teachers also affect their readiness and attitude towards the implementation of the rhythmic gymnastics curriculum. The conclusion of this study confirms that improving teacher competence through continuous training and the provision of adequate facilities are strategic steps needed to support optimal implementation of the curriculum. These findings are expected to serve as a reference for policy makers and education practitioners.

Abstract

The problem underlying this study is that many athletes and students still have difficulty producing hard, fast, and accurate volleyball smashes. This is due to limited leg muscle power, vertical jump height, and movement coordination. This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of two plyometric training methods, namely depth jump and jump to box, in improving volleyball smash skills. The method used was a literature review, analyzing ten relevant previous studies from 2015 to 2025. The results of the study showed that both exercises were effective in increasing leg muscle power, vertical jump height, and smash performance. Depth jumps tend to be more optimal for advanced athletes because they require high muscle reactivity, while jump to box is more suitable for beginners because it is safer and emphasizes movement control. The conclusion of this study is that although both are effective, the choice of method must be tailored to the athlete's level. A combination of both exercises is recommended to produce a more comprehensive improvement in smash skills.

Abstract

This research was conducted in March–May 2025 at Nusa Cendana University (UNDANA), Kupang, with the aim of analyzing the biomechanics of upper limb movements in two basic volleyball techniques, namely jump serve and spike. This research began from the importance of understanding biomechanics in improving performance while preventing shoulder and elbow injuries in university volleyball athletes. The research method used a quantitative descriptive approach with a high-speed video-based motion analysis technique (240 fps) analyzed using Kinovea software. The research sample consisted of 20 volleyball athletes from UKM UNDANA (10 male and 10 female) selected by purposive sampling. Parameters included joint angles, arm swing speed, and upper body segment momentum. The results showed that the optimal shoulder angle in the spike (165° ± 4.1) was greater than the jump serve (155° ± 3.6), with a higher arm swing speed in the spike (18.2 m/s ± 1.3) than the serve (14.5 m/s ± 1.1). The arm momentum value for the spike (7.8 kg·m/s ± 0.9) was also greater than the serve (6.2 kg·m/s ± 0.7). An independent t-test showed a significant difference (p < 0.05) in these three parameters. In conclusion, the spike exerted greater shoulder tension, a more explosive swing speed, and greater momentum than the jump serve. These results suggest that coaches should design exercises that synchronize movement and strengthen the shoulder muscles.

Abstract

Decreased physical activity and sleep disorders are common problems among older adults. Health literacy is thought to play a role in motivating healthy behaviors, but its relationship with physical activity and sleep quality among older adults in Indonesia has been little studied. The purpose of this study was to analyze the correlation between health literacy, physical activity, and sleep quality among older adults at a community health center. This study used a quantitative cross-sectional research method with 35 elderly respondents aged ≥ 65 years at the Lidah Kulon Community Health Center. Sampling was conducted using accidental sampling. Data were collected through guided interviews using the HLS-EU-Q16 health literacy, PASE physical activity, and PSQI sleep quality questionnaires. Data analysis used the Spearman Rank correlation test. The results of this study showed that most respondents were female 65.7% and aged 66-74 years 62.9%. No significant relationship was found between health literacy and physical activity (r=0.054; p=0.760) or sleep quality (r=-0.187; p=0.280). However, a strong and significant negative relationship was found between physical activity and sleep quality (r=-0.721; p=0.000). The conclusion of this study is that health literacy is not directly correlated with physical activity or sleep quality among the elderly at this health center.

Abstract

This study was motivated by the importance of understanding the relationship between physical condition and technical skills in early age soccer. The problem raised was the lack of clarity regarding the direct relationship between running speed and dribbling skills in young players at SSB Bhirawa Tirtoyudo. The purpose of this study was to analyze the significant relationship between speed and soccer dribbling skills. The method used was quantitative correlational with a sample of 35 players selected purposively. The research instruments were a 30-meter running speed test and a standardized zig-zag dribbling test. The data were analyzed using Pearson's correlation test after fulfilling the assumptions of normality and linearity. The results showed a strong and significant negative relationship between speed and dribbling skills (r = -0.726, p < 0.001). The coefficient of determination (R²) of 0.527 indicated that 52.7% of the variation in dribbling skills was influenced by speed. The conclusion of this study is that speed is a determining factor that greatly contributes to dribbling quality. Implicitly, coaches are advised to integrate speed training into dribbling skill development programs to optimize the holistic performance of young players.

Abstract

Aging is a natural process accompanied by declines in physical, psychological, and social functions, which can affect life satisfaction among the elderly. Physical activity is known to support physical health, emotional well-being, and social interaction, potentially increasing life satisfaction in old age. This study aimed to examine the relationship between physical activity and life satisfaction among the elderly at the Griya Lansia Ciparay Social Service Center, West Java. This study used a quantitative correlational design with a cross-sectional approach. A total of 74 elderly were selected using purposive sampling based on predetermined inclusion and exclusion criteria. Physical activity was assessed using the Physical Activity Scale for the Elderly (PASE), while life satisfaction was measured using the Life Satisfaction Index-A (LSI-A). Data were collected through structured interviews to ensure that participants were able to understand the questions and recall their physical activity over the previous seven days. Data were analyzed using the Spearman correlation test. The results showed a significant positive relationship between physical activity and life satisfaction (p < 0.001; r = 0.441), indicating a moderate correlation. Elderly with higher levels of physical activity tended to report higher life satisfaction. This study suggests strengthening and diversifying physical activity programs to improve the well-being and life satisfaction of older adults in social care institutions.

Abstract

Athletics education, especially in relay running at Santa Theresia Junior High School, faces problems of low student interest and technical mastery. This condition is caused by monotonous teaching methods that lack interaction and cooperation among students. Therefore, this study aims to examine the effectiveness of the Teams Games Tournament (TGT) cooperative learning model in improving the relay running skills of eighth-grade students. This study used a quantitative approach with a one-group pretest-posttest design. The sample consisted of 46 students selected through total sampling. Data were collected through relay running skill tests in the pretest and posttest phases, then analyzed using a paired sample t-test with the help of SPSS version 27 software. The results of the analysis showed a significant increase in the average score, from 47.61 to 81.74, with a significance value of 0.000 (< 0.05). These findings indicate that the application of the TGT model effectively improves mastery of basic techniques, speed, and coordination in relay running. Based on these results, it can be concluded that the TGT type of cooperative learning model has a positive and significant effect on students' relay running abilities, while also increasing active involvement, teamwork, and learning motivation in the Physical Education, Sports, and Health learning process.

Abstract

Overhead serving ability in volleyball is influenced by arm muscle strength and power. However, extracurricular volleyball students at MTS Istiqomah Salumakarra still experience limitations in mastering this technique. This study aims to analyze the effect of Resistance Band and Medicine Ball exercises on overhead serving ability, as well as to compare the effectiveness of these two exercise methods. The method used was an experiment with a two-group pretest-posttest design. The sample consisted of 20 male students who were divided into two groups randomly. The research instrument was an overhand serve test that had been tested for validity and reliability. The data were analyzed using a paired sample t-test and an independent sample t-test with a significance level of α = 0.05. The results showed that: (1) Resistance Band training had a significant effect on improving overhead serves (t = 18.974; p = 0.000), (2) Medicine Ball training also had a significant effect (t = 11.781; p = 0.000), and (3) There is a significant difference between the two methods, where Medicine Ball is more effective than Resistance Band (p = 0.031). The conclusion of this study is that although both exercises improve overhead serve ability, Medicine Ball exercises provide a more optimal impact on the development of serve power and accuracy.
