Abstract

In Indonesia, around 10.9% of the population has diabetes according to the 2018 basic health research data. It is important for people with diabetes to receive proper treatment to prevent the condition from getting worse. Recently, there have been studies suggesting that taking vitamin D supplements can help improve diabetes. This research aims to explore whether vitamin D supplementation can indeed help control type 2 diabetes mellitus. The approach employed in this investigation entails conducting a comprehensive analysis of existing literature, where relevant articles published in the past 10 years were analyzed based on specific keywords. After finding the appropriate literature, the writing process began. Vitamin D is a substance that acts like a hormone and can increase insulin production in the body. Lot of evidence have shown that taking vitamin D supplements can lower fasting plasma glucose levels, improve insulin resistance, and reduce HbA1c levels when given in high doses over a short period of time. Vitamin D deficiency has also been linked to poor glycemic control in type 2 diabetes mellitus, leading to higher HbA1c levels. Based on the findings from the literature review, it can be concluded that vitamin D supplementation is effective in treating type 2 diabetes mellitus, with a minimum daily dose of 1000 IU. Overall, the evidence suggests that vitamin D supplementation can be a valuable addition to the management of type 2 diabetes mellitus, potentially improving outcomes and overall health in affected individuals. Further research is needed to fully understand the mechanisms behind these benefits and to determine the most effective dosages and treatment protocols.

Abstract

Based on Disability Adjusted Life Years (DALYs), there are four main disease burdens, namely ischemic heart disease, cerebrovascular disease (including stroke and hypertension), diabetes and tuberculosis infectious disease. Gestational hypertension is very closely related to CVD (cardiovascular disease) with the potential for preeclampsia to have an impact on premature birth or small babies for the gestational age, stillbirths, low birth weight babies, etc. The research objective was to analyze the risk factors for gestational hypertension and preeclampsia. Methods: This study is a literature review based on the PRISMA guidelines. using electronic databases namely Google scholar, Sciencedirect and Pubmed with a period from 2017 to 2022 with the keywords "Hypertension, risk factors, high risk pregnancy". Results: The prevalence of hypertension and pre-eclampsia varies between countries. In Bangladesh, the prevalence of pre-eclampsia: 14.4%, without history of hypertension, 5.4% prevalence of pre-eclampsia with chronic hypertension, the same as Ethiopia. The incidence of gestational hypertension is 6%, in Ireland, gestational hypertension is 5.9% and 4.6% of pre-eclampsia. In France hypertension was 7.4% and pre-eclampsia was 2.0%, gestational hypertension was 4.2%, HELLP syndrome was 10.4%. Hypertension is associated with risk factors for pregnancy, lifestyle and sociodemographic factors. Conclusion: Prevention, timely diagnosis and prompt management of hypertension in pregnancy should be intensified so as to reduce morbidity and severity of adverse birth outcomes

Abstract

Idiopathic Thrombocytopenic Purpura (ITP) is a condition of low platelet count of unknown cause where most of the causes of ITP are the result of antibodies binding to platelets. One of the extra pulmonary manifestations of TB occurs in the hematological system which can cause anemia, leukopenia, leukocytosis, thrombocytopenia and thrombocytosis and ITP due to Tuberculosis (TB) is a rare manifestation of TB. This case report aims to describe a 47 year old male patient with ITP accompanied by TB. A 47 year old male patient came with complaints of weakness since 7 days ago. Based on the history, physical and supporting examinations carried out, the patient was diagnosed with ITP due to pulmonary TB. Manifestations of ITP due to TB are similar to ITP in general. Generalized purpura, bruising after minor trauma, epistaxis, subconjunctival hemorrhage and hematuria are possible manifestations. Treatment for ITP is to treat the underlying disease that causes it and specific treatment for ITP can also be given if the patient's platelets are very low. The specific treatment for ITP that can be given is corticosteroids or IVIG. Idiopathic Thrombocytopenic Purpura is a rare hematological manifestation of TB. Correct diagnosis and treatment play an important role in reducing the worsening prognosis of ITP patients due to TB.

Abstract

Free radicals are compounds that trigger oxidative stress and harm human health. Uncontrolled oxidative stress causes several degenerative diseases. Antioxidants are needed to prevent or reduce oxidative stress. One of the plants with a high content of antioxidant compounds is brown algae (Sargassum sp). The study aimed to examine Sargassum sp.'s antioxidant activity, which is expressed in the IC50 value using the DPPH method as measured by a UV-Vis spectrophotometer. It is a narrative review, with literature searches from the Science Direct, Pubmed, and Google Scholar databases. The results showed that the methanol extract of Sargassum sp. has strong antioxidant activity consisting of phenolic compounds, flavonoids, and carotenoids. This review concludes that Sargassum sp extract has antioxidant activity.
