Abstract

The preservation of local culture in Indonesia faces serious challenges, both from within the community and due to the influence of globalization. This article focuses on the study of the traditional Beghu musical instrument  from Nagekeo Regency, East Nusa Tenggara, as a representation of intangible cultural heritage that is rich in historical, educational, and artistic value. This study uses a descriptive qualitative approach with purposive sampling and snowball sampling techniques  to explore the meaning, function, and challenges in the preservation of Beghu. The results show that Beghu not only plays an important role in the traditional rituals and social life of the community, but also faces real threats due to lack of documentation, lack of interest from the younger generation, and limited institutional support. These findings confirm the importance of integrating traditional musical instruments in education and strengthening local communities through documentation, training, and cultural activities. Structured and collaborative preservation efforts are needed to keep Beghu alive as a symbol of the identity and cultural pride of the Nagekeo people.

Abstract

This study examines the role of traditional music from South Sulawesi as a medium of enculturation in education, highlighting the relevance of John Blacking’s theoretical perspectives. The research is grounded in the phenomenon of declining interest among younger generations in traditional music only 19.4% of Generation Z express such interest due to limited facilities, insufficient early exposure, and perceptions of irrelevance to modern life. Employing a qualitative approach with a case study design, the research was conducted in formal educational institutions (SMA Negeri 10 Pangkep and SMAN 6 Jeneponto) as well as the Katangka Art Studio. Findings indicate that traditional music genres such as Sinrilik, Pakacaping, and Gandrang Bulo possess strong social, educational, and cultural functions, yet remain underutilized in teaching and learning contexts. Blacking’s concepts emphasizing universal musicality, the significance of early enculturation processes, and the intrinsic connection between music and its socio-cultural context provide a foundation for developing traditional music education that is more inclusive, relevant, and immersive. The study recommends a holistic approach that combines community-based learning, cross-arts and cultural integration, and active student participation, supported by government policy and community engagement, to ensure the sustainability of traditional music heritage in the face of globalization challenges

Abstract

This article examines the performance of Zarathustra by students of the UNESA Sendratasik Education Study Program as a form of resistance to the aesthetics of digital imagery through the practice of non-realistic role-playing art. This research aims to examine how actors' bodies are used as a medium of authentic expression and an arena of resistance to identity homogenization in the social media era. With a qualitative-descriptive approach and a case study design, data were obtained through participatory observation, visual documentation, and semi-structured interviews, and analyzed using a hermeneutic phenomenological approach. The results of the study show that the actor's body is positioned not just as a tool of dramatic representation, but as a performative entity that is alive, vulnerable, and existentially honest. The performance conceptually combines Friedrich Nietzsche's Übermensch theory and Jerzy Grotowski's principles of Poor Theater, which emphasizes the purification of expression and the spirituality of the body. These findings expand the discourse of contemporary performing arts by offering a model of creation that rejects the aesthetics of digital curation and emphasizes the presence of the authentic body. The implications of the research have an impact on the pedagogy of the role arts and performance creation strategies that are more reflective, critical, and contextual to contemporary cultural issues.

Abstract

this study examines the Melbeyond the Role ("Beyond the Role") acting method, a training approach that emphasizes honesty of expression, bodily awareness, and internal reflection. Developed through intensive workshop practice, this method positions the body, breath, and imagination as the foundation of performance creation, offering an alternative to acting practices that rely heavily on textual repetition and external imitation. The research applies a practice-based research approach, with data gathered from direct observation, reflective notes, and workshop documentation. A descriptive-reflective analysis was conducted to identify the core principles, training stages, and pedagogical mechanisms of the method. The findings indicate that Melampaui Peran integrates the body, imagination, and inner motive as the primary components of authentic performance. The body functions as a site of knowledge and awareness, imagination provides emotional context grounded in realistic presence, and inner motive directs the logic behind every performed action. The interplay of these elements produces a form of honest expression that enables transformative experiences for the actor on stage. Conceptually, the method extends classical acting theories (Stanislavski, Meisner, Grotowski) by grounding them in reflective and experiential processes shaped within the Indonesian performance context. This study contributes to the development of actor training pedagogy in drama, dance, and music education programs in Indonesia.

Abstract

ABSTRACT Genta Loka is an artistic research project that develops trunthung musicality through the integration of percussive sounds generated from recycled zinc sheets. Using a practice-based research framework, the study positions creative processes—sound exploration, instrument construction, choreographic development—as epistemic modes. The work investigates acoustic characteristics of metal waste, timbral expansion of trunthung, and the formation of hybrid bodily movement through interactions among Soreng dance, hip-hop, and contemporary dance vocabularies. Results indicate that metal waste introduces new timbral layers, enriches rhythmic structures, and shapes distinctive dramaturgy. The project also emphasizes cultural ecology by highlighting recycled materials as artistic and ecological agents.

Abstract

The Resik Kali River Festival in Sukoharjo Village, Pacitan, is a cultural ecological practice that articulates the relationship between humans, nature, and spirituality through a series of rituals and art performances. This paper discusses the process of creating works in the Resik Kali Festival using an approach based on the methods of artistic creation, which include the stages of exploration, formulation of ideas, design of works, and artistic realization. Based on cultural ecology studies, the resik kali ritual is understood as a cultural strategy for caring for the ecological landscape and the identity of agrarian communities. Through dramaturgical analysis and the concept of the body as a medium of perception, this paper shows that this festival presents a participatory, dialogical, and ecological aesthetic experience. This study provides a conceptual contribution to art creation based on local wisdom, while also being relevant to the development of ecology-based artistic practices.
