Abstract

This study analyzes service quality improvement strategies at Perumda Delta Tirta Sidoarjo (PDAM Sidoarjo), the sole piped water provider in Sidoarjo Regency. Despite serving approximately 78% of the regency, the utility faces persistent challenges of ageing pipe networks and high Non-Revenue Water (NRW). Using a qualitative single-case embedded design, data were collected from November 2024 to April 2025 through in-depth interviews with four internal staff and five customers from diverse sub-districts, field observations, and documentary analysis of the 2023 Annual Performance Report and service SOPs. Data were analyzed using Miles and Huberman's interactive model with source, method, and theoretical triangulation. Findings show a coherent four-pillar strategy: infrastructure rehabilitation, digital transformation, HR competency development, and governance strengthening. A qualitative assessment informed by SERVQUAL dimensions reveals a patterned outcome: assurance, empathy, and tangibles were perceived positively by the interviewed informants, while reliability and responsiveness remained constrained by infrastructure conditions and uneven field staff distribution. The most substantive gaps concern the technocratic nature of formulation without formal citizen participation, geographic inequity in service quality, and digital exclusion risks. This study contributes an integrated framework combining David's strategic management cycle, SERVQUAL, and New Public Service to assess efficiency, perceived quality, and equity simultaneously.

Abstract

This study aimed to improve teachers’ pedagogical competence in instructional planning through project-based academic supervision in an inclusive elementary school. The study addressed teachers’ limited ability to develop adaptive, differentiated, and inclusive instructional plans that responded to diverse student needs. A School Action Research design based on the Kemmis and McTaggart model was conducted in two cycles, each comprising planning, action, observation, and reflection. The study involved six teachers at an inclusive elementary school. The intervention was implemented through academic supervision in which teachers were guided to identify students’ learning needs, develop and revise teaching modules, participate in professional discussions and consultations, and reflect on feedback from the supervision process. Data were collected through observation, document analysis, interviews, and field notes using observation sheets, a pedagogical competence assessment rubric, a teaching-module review sheet, an interview guide, and field notes. The data were analyzed using descriptive quantitative and qualitative techniques. The results showed a progressive improvement in teachers’ pedagogical competence in instructional planning. The mean score increased from 63.17 in the pre-cycle, categorized as fair, to 78.50 in Cycle I, categorized as good, and 89.83 in Cycle II, categorized as very good. Improvements were also observed in teachers’ ability to incorporate student characteristics, differentiated instruction, accommodations and modifications, learning media, and assessment into their instructional plans. These findings indicate that project-based academic supervision can provide a practical and collaborative approach to strengthening teachers’ pedagogical competence and supporting inclusive instructional planning.

Abstract

Previous studies have examined the role of Islamic education in developing students’ religious character and social responsibility, but the relationship between these outcomes and the mechanisms underlying their development remains insufficiently synthesized. This study examines how Islamic schools contribute to students’ religious character and social responsibility through a Systematic Literature Review (SLR). Following the PRISMA 2020 framework, 23 studies identified from Scopus, Web of Science, and Google Scholar were analyzed thematically. The findings identify five related mechanisms: Islamic school culture, religious habituation, teacher role modelling, curriculum integration, and social engagement. These mechanisms perform complementary functions in character development. School culture and teacher modelling provide consistent behavioural examples, while religious learning and habituation support the practice of Islamic values. Social engagement enables students to apply these values through cooperation, empathy, helping others, and responsibility. The synthesis indicates that religious character and social responsibility are interconnected outcomes rather than separate dimensions. Islamic values such as amanah, ta'awun, ukhuwah, and ihsan provide a moral foundation for socially responsible behaviour. The findings suggest that integrated educational practices can strengthen the connection between religious values and students’ everyday social behaviour.

Abstract

This study developed an Augmented Reality (AR)-based learning medium and examined its potential to enhance fifth-grade students’ science process skills in learning the human respiratory system. A Research and Development (R&D) approach was applied using a modified Borg and Gall model comprising ten stages, from potential and problem identification to final product development. The study involved five students in a limited trial and 58 students in the effectiveness test, consisting of 29 students in the experimental group and 29 in the control group. Data were collected through observations, interviews, expert validation, teacher and student response questionnaires, and pretest–posttest instruments. Qualitative data were analyzed descriptively, while quantitative data were examined using percentages, gain and N-Gain scores, normality and homogeneity tests, and an independent samples t-test. The results indicated a high level of media feasibility, with validation scores of 97.5% from the material expert and 95% from the media expert. Student responses reached 97.5% in the limited trial and 97.8% in the wider implementation, while the teacher response was 95%. The experimental group achieved an average N-Gain of 0.7009, categorized as high, compared with 0.2221, categorized as low, in the control group. The pretest difference was not significant (p = 0.276), whereas the posttest difference was significant (p < 0.001). These findings suggest that AR-based learning media has potential to support science process skills development.

Abstract

Development communication serves as a strategic instrument for community empowerment in Indonesia’s disadvantaged regions, yet empirical evidence regarding its models remains fragmented across diverse contexts. This study systematically reviewed empirical evidence on development communication models implemented to support community empowerment in rural and disadvantaged Indonesian regions. Following PRISMA 2020 guidelines for methodological transparency, literature searches were conducted across Scopus, Web of Science, ScienceDirect, Taylor & Francis Online, and Google Scholar. The search identified 1,462 publications, resulting in 1,214 unique records after duplicate removal. Following screening, 105 full-text articles were assessed for eligibility, and nine empirical studies met all inclusion criteria for qualitative synthesis. Findings reveal that participatory communication was the predominant model, characterized by dialogue, stakeholder collaboration, local knowledge integration, and collective decision-making. Persistent barriers were also identified, including limited institutional capacity, inadequate infrastructure, geographical isolation, cultural diversity, socioeconomic disparities, and local power dynamics. Overall, adaptive, participatory, and context-responsive models demonstrated greater capacity to strengthen community participation, institutional capacity, and local empowerment. The review concludes that development communication is most effective when communities act as active participants and strategies align with local sociocultural conditions, establishing an evidence-based foundation for sustainable empowerment.

Abstract

A Limited Liability Company (Perseroan Terbatas) is a legal entity with a legal personality separate from its shareholders and corporate organs; therefore, it is generally governed by the principle of limited liability. However, under certain circumstances, this principle may be set aside through the piercing the corporate veil doctrine when the corporate entity is used to evade legal obligations or to commit abuses that cause harm to other parties. This study aims to analyze the application of the piercing the corporate veil doctrine in corporate breach of contract disputes through the alter ego doctrine, as well as to examine the construction of personal liability and the juridical parameters for imposing joint and several liability on corporate organs. This research employs a prescriptive doctrinal legal method using statutory, conceptual, and case approaches. The case approach examines Indonesian court decisions, namely Decision Number 96/Pdt.G/2017/PN.Jkt.Sel. and Decision Number 47/Pdt.G/2021/PN.Mtr. Legal materials were collected through library and document research, encompassing primary, secondary, and tertiary legal sources, and were analyzed qualitatively. The findings indicate that The alter ego doctrine may serve as an indicator in identifying the control and relationship between corporate organs and the company in determining personal liability. However, control over a company alone does not constitute sufficient grounds for applying the piercing the corporate veil doctrine.

Abstract

Indonesia's educational reform through the Kurikulum Merdeka has encouraged the adoption of Deep Learning principles in classroom practice, particularly through the pedagogical triad of Mindful, Meaningful, and Joyful Learning. These three dimensions are expected to support not only students’ active participation but also deeper understanding, reflective thinking, and meaningful learning experiences. This study aims to analyze the implementation of Mindful, Meaningful, and Joyful Learning in Pancasila Education and to identify the challenges encountered in its classroom implementation. This study employed a qualitative single instrumental case study at SDN 04 Benua Kayong, Ketapang Regency. The participants consisted of one Grade 2 teacher and 25 students. Data were collected through classroom observations, interviews, and document analysis, focusing on observable learning practices and assessment processes. The data were analyzed descriptively to identify patterns related to the implementation of the three dimensions of Deep Learning. The findings revealed three main patterns. First, Joyful Learning was successfully implemented and contributed to increased student engagement and active participation. Second, the implementation of Mindful and Meaningful Learning remained limited, as learning activities tended to emphasize students’ physical involvement rather than cognitive depth, reflection, and higher-order thinking. Third, assessment practices remained vulnerable to subjective bias, particularly the Halo Effect, potentially affecting assessment validity and objectivity. The findings indicate that the implementation of Deep Learning in Pancasila Education requires stronger cognitive scaffolding and reflective learning strategies, including the use of Socratic dialogue, to facilitate deeper thinking and meaningful learning. However, because this study employed a single-case design, the findings are context-specific to SDN 04 Benua Kayong and should not be generalized to all elementary school settings.

Abstract

Environmental cost management and climate change investment are increasingly important for strengthening sustainable production, organizational resilience, and community well-being amid environmental and disaster-related risks. This study aims to examine how environmental cost management and climate change investment support sustainable production, social resilience, and community well-being at PT XYZ Regional Office of East Java. A qualitative case study approach was employed involving six purposively selected informants from warehouse operations, production, and finance functions. Data were collected through semi-structured in-depth interviews and analysis of internal company documents covering the 2020–2025 period and analyzed thematically through coding, triangulation, document analysis, and iterative interpretation. The findings indicate that environmental cost management encompasses prevention, detection, internal failure, and external failure costs, with greater emphasis on preventive and detection activities to minimize product deterioration and production disruptions. Climate change investment, particularly earthquake-resistant warehouse infrastructure and environmental control systems, supports production continuity, protects rice stocks, and reduces vulnerability to environmental and disaster-related risks. The findings also suggest that resilient infrastructure contributes to worker safety, food-supply continuity, organizational preparedness, and social resilience. However, environmental cost recording remains only partially integrated into formal accounting systems. The study implies that integrating environmental cost management with climate change investment can strengthen sustainable production, risk reduction, and food-security continuity.

Abstract

This study examines the social dynamics of sustainable consumption by investigating the influence of environmental awareness and customer trust on consumer loyalty in eco-friendly markets. The study addresses the importance of sustainable consumption and how consumers’ environmental perceptions and relational evaluations contribute to loyalty toward responsible products and brands. An explanatory quantitative research design was employed. Data were collected through a self-administered online questionnaire from consumers of environmentally friendly household and personal care products in Sidoarjo, East Java, Indonesia. Using purposive sampling, 140 responses were obtained, of which 127 valid responses were retained for analysis. The measurement instrument consisted of 23 indicators covering environmental awareness, customer trust, and consumer loyalty, measured using a five-point Likert scale. Data were analyzed using SPSS through descriptive statistics, validity/reliability testing, classical assumption testing, and regression analysis. The results demonstrate that environmental awareness has a positive and significant effect on consumer loyalty (β = 0.342, t = 5.480, p < 0.001). Customer trust also has a positive and significant effect on consumer loyalty and represents the stronger predictor (β = 0.460, t = 5.537, p < 0.001). These findings indicate that sustainable consumption is influenced by both consumers’ environmental awareness and confidence in the credibility and environmental responsibility of eco-friendly brands. The study contributes to sustainable consumer behavior literature by highlighting environmental and relational dimensions of consumer loyalty. Managerially, eco-friendly brands should strengthen environmental education, transparency, and credible sustainability practices to foster lasting consumer relationships.
