Abstract

Decomposition of organic matter in the soil is closely related to the presence of soil macrofauna. The better the process of organic matter decomposition, the better the physical and chemical properties of the soil, which, of course, will support soil fertility in a land area. This research aims to determine the presence of soil macrofauna under Jelutung Rawa trees (Dyera polyphylla Miq) in the peatland of the Seedling Garden (KBS) at Palangka Raya University. The research method was conducted by sampling soil macrofauna through Hand sorting method at 25 observation points and Pittfall Trap method at 20 observation points. The observed and identified soil macrofauna were examined in the laboratory using identification guidelines and literature on macrofauna types. The data were analyzed using the Shannon-Wiener species diversity index formula, the Margalef species richness index, the Pielou evenness index, and the calculation of species presence frequency. The research findings revealed 24 species, 23 genera, 20 families, 7 classes, and 3 phyla of soil macrofauna, with a total of 3,579 individuals. The values of the species diversity index (H'), species richness index (Dmg), evenness index (E), and the frequency of soil macrofauna presence (F) at KBS, Palangka Raya University were as follows: H' = 2.303325269 (moderate category), Dmg = 2.810760521 (moderate category), E = 0.724759677 (fairly even category), and frequency of presence, F = 80% - 100%.

Abstract

Fluctuations in raw wood supply from year to year can be a challenge for wood processing businesses. Sengon wood is one type of fast-growing wood that can be developed by the government as one of the solutions. Sengon wood is a fine to coarse wood with a specific gravity of 0.33 which is included in the light specific gravity range (0.29-0.56) and strength class III-IV. The sengon wood is laminated with bamboo laminate to strengthen the strength of the board. By testing the physical and mechanical properties of laminated boards made from sengon wood and petung bamboo, this study aims to determine whether there is an increase in strength class.  The research design used was an experimental factorial design with two components, four treatments, and three replications. Except for the MoE test, all tests evaluating the physical and mechanical characteristics of laminated boards made from sengon wood and petung bamboo were accepted under the JAS 234: 2007. After being converted into laminated boards, the strength class of sengon wood increased from strength class III-IV to strength class III. Sengon wood and petung bamboo can be combined to make laminated boards that can be used for heavy construction.

Abstract

Biological assessment is an option in determining river quality, in this case related to river health. The biological assessment indicators used aquatic macroinvertebrates with research sites in the Pusur River which are located in Boyolali and Klaten Regencies, Central Java Province, Indonesia. The use of macroinvetebrata as an indicator because they are very sensitive to changes in water quality, one of which is the EPT group (Ephemeroptera, Plecoptera, and Trichoptera). Sources of river pollution will affect the existence of EPT and there are macroinvertebrates that are adaptive to contamination. This study was conducted at three monitoring stations located in the Pusur River, namely in the upstream, middle and downstream sections where each station had 6 repetitions in sampling followed by calculating the macroinvertebrate assessment index value. The results of the study show that the upstream station has an index value of 2.11 which means it is moderately polluted, the middle station has an index value of 2.40 which means it is moderately polluted and the downstream station has a value of 2.35 which means it is moderately polluted. From these results it is indicated that contamination into the river has started from the upstream area where the contamination originates from the disposal of unprocessed cow manure into river bodies, while in the middle and downstream areas the contamination that occurs is caused by dumping garbage, household waste and the use of pesticides and chemical fertilizers in agricultural ecosystem.
