Abstract

This study aimed to analyze the speed reading skills and reading comprehension of fourth-grade students at SDN 15 Nanga Pinoh. The study employed a descriptive qualitative approach. The subjects of the study were 15 fourth-grade students. Data were collected through reading tests, observation, interviews, and documentation. The data were analyzed through data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results showed that the students’ speed reading skills were generally in the moderate category. Of the 15 students, most achieved reading speeds between 100–200 words per minute (WPM), while a smaller number reached 200–300 WPM. Assessment of speed reading aspects indicated that students still experienced difficulties in pronunciation, pause usage, intonation, and reading fluency. In addition, reading comprehension levels varied among students, with some students achieving very good comprehension, while others remained in the moderate and low categories. These findings indicate that students’ speed reading skills and reading comprehension require continuous improvement through regular reading practice and appropriate instructional strategies. Therefore, teachers are expected to provide learning activities that support the development of speed reading and reading comprehension skills in elementary school students.

Abstract

This study examines gender inclusivity in natural disaster management, specifically regarding the provision of private spaces for women during the emergency response phase following the eruption of Mount Lewotobi Laki-Laki in East Flores Regency, East Nusa Tenggara. The eruption, which occurred on November 3–4, 2024, resulted in more than 24,320 people being displaced, some of whom were housed in Temporary Shelters (Huntara) in Konga Village, Wulanggitang Subdistrict. This study employs a qualitative approach using a case study design and a literature review method, drawing from national regulations, international policy documents, reports from humanitarian organizations, and relevant scientific journals. The results indicate that the conditions in the Huntara do not yet meet the principles of gender inclusivity: bathroom and toilet facilities are not separated by gender, the physical condition of the buildings is substandard, and sanitation facilities are located far from the housing units. These conditions increase women’s vulnerability to various forms of gender-based violence (GBV) and threaten their right to privacy and dignity. These findings indicate a significant gap between the existing regulatory framework—including Law No. 24 of 2007, BNPB Regulation No. 13 of 2014, Presidential Instruction No. 9 of 2000, the 2018 Sphere Standards, and the 2015–2030 Sendai Framework—and implementation on the ground. This study concludes that a genuine commitment is needed from local governments and the BNPB/BPBD to fully integrate a gender perspective throughout the entire disaster management cycle, from the pre-disaster phase through to rehabilitation, in order to ensure the fulfillment of the rights to privacy, security, and dignity for all disaster victims.

Abstract

Mikro, Small, and medium Enterprises (MSMEs) are a type of business that has proven to be able to contribute and play a role in economic growth, both in developed and developing countries. Factors that influence the failure of MSMEs are none other than the lack of good business management, not conducting routine supervision in operations. Furthermore, many business actors still do not understand government regulations related to taxation, especially MSMEs such as the Singgalang Coffee MSMe in Sungai Penuh City. In this case, the government must move to intensify inclusive socialization throughout Indonesia. This aims to help business actors understand and knowledge related to tax regulations, especially in PP No. 55 Of 2022 and related to the Final Income Tax Rate Of 0,5%. The data used in this study is Qualitative data, namely descriptive data that focuses on the quality, nature, or category of an object, such as interview narratives, observation transcripts, documentation, and also subjective opinions. In this study, the author aims to determine the understanding and knowledge of MSMEs, particularly Singgalang Coffee MSMEs in Sungai Penuh City, regarding government regulation PP. Abstract

This study aims to examine the role of teachers in increasing the engagement of deaf students during the learning process at the TPI Amplas Special Needs School (SLB). Student engagement is a crucial factor supporting successful learning, encompassing behavioral, emotional, and cognitive aspects. This study employed a quantitative descriptive method involving one teacher and six deaf students as research subjects. Data collection was conducted through questionnaires, observation, and documentation. The research instrument was developed based on indicators of teacher roles, such as classroom management, use of learning media, motivation, use of sign language, and the ability to build effective learning interactions. Student engagement was measured through indicators of attention during learning, participation in learning activities, task completion, learning motivation, and comfort during learning. The results of the study indicate that teachers play a positive role in increasing the engagement of deaf students. This is evident in the use of visual media, sign language, concrete examples, and consistent motivation throughout the learning process. Furthermore, teachers are able to create a comfortable and conducive learning environment, thus increasing student enthusiasm for learning activities. Based on the questionnaire results, the majority of students showed good attention to teacher explanations, actively participated in learning activities, and made an effort to understand the material presented. However, some students were still reluctant to ask questions and occasionally experienced boredom during the lesson. Therefore, it can be concluded that the role of teachers significantly contributes to the engagement of deaf students in learning. The more effective the strategies implemented by teachers, the higher the students' participation and engagement in the learning process.

Abstract

Low interest in learning mathematics remains a common problem among elementary school students, even when supported by adequate learning facilities. This low interest is manifested in passive attitudes, a lack of enthusiasm, and low student participation in mathematics lessons. This study aims to determine the effectiveness of implementing the Team Games Tournament (TGT) learning model on the interest in learning mathematics among students in grades IVB and VB at SD Negeri Pandean Lamper 03 in Semarang. The study employs a quantitative approach using a descriptive method. The study population consists of all students in grades IVB and VB, totaling 51 students, with a total sampling technique used for data collection. Data collection was conducted through a mathematics learning interest questionnaire and an observation sheet. The questionnaire was designed based on six indicators of learning interest: interest in learning, the material and content presented, feelings of enjoyment, student engagement, student attention, and the discipline of the subject. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics in the form of percentages and averages. The results of the study indicate that the implementation of the Team Games Tournament (TGT) model is effective in increasing students’ interest in learning mathematics, with an average percentage of 85.07%, which falls into the very high category. The highest percentage was obtained for the discipline indicator at 91%, while the lowest percentage was found in the content indicator. Meanwhile, the lowest percentage was found in the indicator of materials and content presented, at 78%. The survey results were supported by observational data showing that the implementation of the TGT model was rated as “very good.” Thus, the Team Games Tournament (TGT) model can serve as an effective learning alternative to increase elementary school students’ interest in learning mathematics.

Abstract

This study addresses the issue of low student learning outcomes driven by conventional, teacher-centered instructional media that fail to maintain the attention span of elementary school students. The purpose of this research is to empirically examine the effect of gamification-based learning media on student learning outcomes at SD Negeri 85 Palembang. This study employed a quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental design, specifically the Nonequivalent Control Group Design. Sampling was conducted using purposive sampling technique, involving 27 students as the research sample. Data collection was executed through pretest and posttest instruments, which were analyzed using Paired Samples T-Test via IBM SPSS Statistics. The results of the Shapiro-Wilk normality test indicated that the pretest (0.302) and posttest (0.086) data were normally distributed (p>0.05). Furthermore, the Paired Samples T-Test yielded a t-value of −26.494 with a two-sided significance level (p-value) of <0.001, which is lower than the significance threshold (α=0.05). Descriptive analysis showed a notable increase in the mean score from 64.93 in the pretest to 79.37 in the posttest. Therefore, it can be concluded that the application of gamification-based learning media exerts a positive and significant effect on student learning outcomes at SD Negeri 85 Palembang, effectively fostering a dynamic and high-performing cognitive learning environment
