Abstract

Inventory management is a critical component of the retail industry, particularly in the context of perishable products. The objective of this study is to propose a conceptual framework for the selection of inventory control strategies, with the aim of enhancing cost efficiency for perishable products with limited lifetime. In this study, we first analyze the inventory control of perishable products according to sales levels data using the ABC classification method. Subsequently, demand patterns are identified to determine the inventory method to be used. This study identifies the potential of the Periodic Review System to determine the optimal order quantity, thereby enhancing cost efficiency. This study utilizes the fruit retail sector as a case study to implement the proposed conceptual framework. The findings indicate that the Periodic Review System has the potential to minimize total inventory expenses in comparison with the existing conventional method.

Abstract

CV. ABC is a wood-processing manufacturing company with one of its main products being turning components. The primary issue faced by the company is waste caused by frequent product defects due to human error. This study aims to minimize non-value-added activities and identify the root causes of human error in the turning production process. The Value Stream Mapping (VSM) method is used to map the process flow from raw materials to finished products. Data were collected through questionnaires and analyzed using WAM, WRM, and WAQ. The results identified the three highest types of waste: defect (27.979%), overproduction (15.471%), and inventory (12.363%). Waste prioritization was carried out using VALSAT, with PAM and QFM selected as the most influential tools. Fishbone analysis revealed lack of focus and attention to detail as the main causes of human error. Improvements were proposed through skill enhancement training, occupational health and safety (OHS) implementation, and regular checklist usage. As a result, processing time was reduced from 2,384.2 minutes to 2,247.4 minutes, as illustrated in the Future State VSM.

Abstract

Production planning is crucial for companies, especially for best-selling products. The B5-sized Qur'an is a best-selling product, especially around Eid al-Fitr and major Muslim holidays. Fluctuations in demand, which tend to fluctuate, force Qur'an-producing companies to plan production in a measurable manner. This is absolutely essential to ensure that production output can meet future demand. A suitable method for forecasting production with such a demand pattern is Multiplicative Decomposition (Seasonal). This method is often used not only to generate forecasts but also to generate information regarding the components of time series and the appearance of various factors, such as trends, cycles, seasonality, and irregularities in the observed results. The results of the forecasting calculations using the Multiplicative Decomposition method show that the MAD value is 240.84, MSE 89,811.47 and MAPE 0.1 or 10% where the MAPE error is relatively small, below 20%, so it is hoped that the Multiplicative Decomposition method can be used as a method for forecasting the production of B5-sized Al-Qur'ans in the future period.

Abstract

This research aims to analyze the impact of False Air on the increase in Oxygen (O2) percentage in the Coal Mill at PT Semen Padang Indarung V. False air or unwanted air leakage is a serious problem that can affect the efficiency of Coal Grinding processes and combustion quality in the Kiln. The research was conducted using operational data collection methods over 6 months, including measurements of O2 levels, Mill Temperature, differential pressure, and Grinding Efficiency. The analysis results show a significant correlation between increased False Air and Increased O2 percentage, where every 1% increase in False Air causes a 0.5% increase in O2 levels and a 2% decrease in Grinding Efficiency. Other identified impacts include an Average Mill temperature decrease of 5°C, a 15% increase in ID Fan power consumption, and a reduction in Grinding capacity of up to 10%. The implementation of improvement programs such as seal replacement, Mill housing repair, and ventilation system optimization has been proven to reduce O2 levels to reach the ideal value of 3-4% and increase grinding efficiency. This research contributes to understanding the influence of False Air on Coal Mill performance and can serve as a reference in preventive maintenance programs to prevent air leakage in Coal Mill systems.

Abstract

Inventory control is a very important managerial function because physical inventory usually involves the largest capital investment in current assets for many companies. Therefore, inventory must be managed and recorded well so that the company can sell its products and generate revenue, thus achieving the company's goals. With inventory, companies are able to carry out the production process continuously and avoid shortages of goods and delays in meeting customer demand, which can be detrimental to the company. Not optimal control of spare parts inventory can result in inventory shortages (out of stock). This study aims to optimize inventory with the ABC method and the probabilistic model Q. The results show the classification of spare parts into categories A (41%, 81%), B (18%, 10%), and C (41%, 9%). The Model Q reduces inventory costs by IDR 295 million. This study provides practical recommendations for inventory management in the automotive industry.
