Abstract

The prevalence of hypertension continues to rise in line with lifestyle changes. Often referred to as "the silent killer," hypertension can develop without warning. One of its contributing factors is excessive sodium intake, which disrupts the body's fluid balance regulated by the renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system. Elevated activity of the Angiotensin-Converting Enzyme within the Renin Angiotensin Aldosterone System mechanism can further lead to the development of hypertension. This study aims to investigate the impact of administering ethanol extract of Rosa damascena on the activity of Angiotensin-Converting Enzyme in Wistar rats fed a sodium-enriched diet. This experimental study utilized a post-test-only control group design. The subjects were 30 male Wistar rats, divided into five groups: 1) P0=control group; 2) P1=8% NaCl+RDEE 500mg/kgBW; 3) P2=0.35% NaCl+RDEE 500mg/kgBW; (4) P3=8% NaCl; and (5) P4=0.35% NaCl. The treatments were administered over 28 days. After the treatment period, the rats were anesthetized using a combination of Ketamine and Xylazine. The data were analyzed using a One-Way ANOVA test to assess differences among the treatment groups. A significant difference in Angiotensin-Converting Enzyme activity was observed in Wistar rats before receiving a sodium-enriched diet, with a p-value of <0.05. The ethanol extract of Rosa damascena was proven effective in reducing ACE activity in these rats, with a p-value of <0.05. The ethanol extract of Rosa damascena has demonstrated nephroprotective properties.

Abstract

Coronary Heart Disease (CHD) is a non-communicable disease that is a public health problem and the number is increasing both in the world and in Indonesia. So good self-management skills are needed in effort to improve the patient's ability to manage CHD risk factors, compliance with taking medication and achieving reduced blood pressure. The development of technology makes the use of mobile phones a necessity. Therefore, mobile phone-based self-management interventions are expected to be effective in improving patients' ability to self-manage to achieve medication compliance and reduce blood pressure. Increased compliance with taking medication and a decrease in blood pressure. The design used is a case study with an innovative design in the form of applying research results regarding mobile phone-based self-management interventions for coronary heart disease patients. The self-management intervention took the form of personal education using e-booklets and short WhatsApp text messages for 8 weeks. And the standard questionnaire consists of MMAS8 and SCC HDI. It is known that there is a decrease in systolic blood pressure (SBP) and diastolic blood pressure (DBP), as well as a decrease in total cholesterol levels. Apart from that, there was an increase in patient medication adherence scores and an increase in the self-management ability of CHD patients. There was a significant effect of mobile phone-based self-management intervention on medication adherence, SBP and DBP values, total cholesterol, and self-management abilities.

Abstract

Diabetes Mellitus is a chronic condition characterized by impaired insulin production, leading to hyperglycemia. Physically and psychologically, Diabetes Mellitus can cause stress and fluctuations in blood sugar levels. This application aims to determine the effect of Progressive Muscle Relaxation (PMR) on stress and blood sugar levels in Diabetes Mellitus patients through the evidenced based nursing practice. This study used a quasi-experimental method with one group pretest posttest design. Data collection was carried out using the Diabetes Distress Scale (DDS-17) and blood sugar level measurements. Determination of the sample using purposive sampling of 25 Diabetes Mellitus patients. This study showed that there was a decrease in stress scores of 0.162 points and a decrease in blood sugar levels of 8.12 mg/dl after the implementation of Progressive Muscle Relaxation for 3 days. Progressive Muscle Relaxation has been proven to be effective in reducing stress and blood sugar levels in patients with Diabetes Mellitus and can be used as an evidence-based intervention in nursing care for patients with Diabetes Mellitus.

Abstract

Hemodialysis (HD) is the main therapy for patients with end-stage renal disease (ESRD) in Indonesia, but the patients' quality of life is lower than other methods due to the physical and psychological effects of HD. One of the therapies that can be used to reduce the effects of HD is relaxation therapy. Objective: This review aims to analyse the effectiveness of relaxation therapy in managing physical and psychological symptoms to improve the quality of life of HD patients. Method: A literature review using databases such as Pubmed, Science Direct, Scopus, Sage Journal and Proquest to search for relevant articles within the period 2020-2024. Results: A review of twelve articles shows that relaxation therapy is effective for pain, fatigue, stress, depression, anxiety, sleep quality and patient quality of life. Conclusions: Relaxation therapy can be integrated into routine care and is feasible for nurses to provide because of its simplicity so that patients can do it themselves at home. Nurses also need to conduct further research into other non-pharmacological therapies that are widely effective for patients with ESRD.
