Abstract

One of the complications in the hemodialysis process is intradialysis hypertension. Hemodialysis patients also often experience increased interdialytic weight gain (IDWG). IDWG and intradialysis hypertension are each associated with patient mortality and morbidity. This study was conducted to determine the relationship between interdialytic weight gain and intradialysis hypertension in hemodialysis patients at Depok City Hospital. This research method is quantitative with cross sectional design. A total of 92 hemodialysis patients who met the inclusion criteria were selected using purposive sampling technique. Data were collected using a respondent characteristics questionnaire, IDWG scoring sheet, and intradialysis systolic blood pressure observation sheet. The results showed that 37% of respondents were 55-64 years old; 53.3% were female; 48.9% had a high school education; 76.1% of respondents did not work; 75% of respondents had an economic status of <Rp4,878,612.00 (below Depok's minimum wage); 44.6% were of Betawi ethnicity; 80.4% had a history of hypertension; 52.2% had undergone hemodialysis for 6-12 months; 54.3% had ≥2 comorbidities; 59.8% took ≥2 anti-hypertensive drugs; and 81.5% had a fluid intake of ≥500 ml per day. Based on Spearman correlation test, there was a relationship between interdialytic weight gain and intradialysis hypertension in hemodialysis patients at Depok City Hospital (p = 0.014; r = 0.255). Monitoring IDWG and the incidence of intradialysis hypertension is important to pay attention to so that its impact can be prevented, so that the mortality and morbidity rates of patients do not increase in the future.

Abstract

The positive and negative syndrome scale (PANSS) has been widely used and validated for the assessment of severity of schizophrenia symptoms. However, the reliability of PANSS Indonesian version in Acehnese population has yet been divined. Research objective: to examine the reliability of PANSS in Acehnese schizophrenic patients. Methodology: A cross sectional study was conducted at Mental Hospital, Banda Aceh, Indonesia, from February to May 2024. Patients aged 18 and above, who were diagnosed with schizophrenia were included in this study, meanwhile patients with organic mental disorders, and history of alcohol or drug consumption were excluded. Two independent psychiatrists separately assessed the patients using PANSS, which consisted of 3 components: positive symptoms (P subscore - 7 questions), negative symptoms (N subscore – 7 questions) and general psychopathology symptoms (G score - 16 questions). Inter-rater reliability was measured using the intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC), in which ICC ≥ 0.60 was considered good. Results: Of twenty subjects enrolled, 70% were males, and the median age was 35 years (23-54). The overall ICC was excellent = 0.987 (0.982-0.994) on 95% confidence interval. Conclusion: PANSS is a reliable tool to assess the severity of schizophrenia in Acehnese population, emphasizing its importance in the clinical setting.

Abstract

Coronary Heart Disease (CHD) is a non-communicable disease that is a public health problem and the number is increasing both in the world and in Indonesia. So good self-management skills are needed in effort to improve the patient's ability to manage CHD risk factors, compliance with taking medication and achieving reduced blood pressure. The development of technology makes the use of mobile phones a necessity. Therefore, mobile phone-based self-management interventions are expected to be effective in improving patients' ability to self-manage to achieve medication compliance and reduce blood pressure. Increased compliance with taking medication and a decrease in blood pressure. The design used is a case study with an innovative design in the form of applying research results regarding mobile phone-based self-management interventions for coronary heart disease patients. The self-management intervention took the form of personal education using e-booklets and short WhatsApp text messages for 8 weeks. And the standard questionnaire consists of MMAS8 and SCC HDI. It is known that there is a decrease in systolic blood pressure (SBP) and diastolic blood pressure (DBP), as well as a decrease in total cholesterol levels. Apart from that, there was an increase in patient medication adherence scores and an increase in the self-management ability of CHD patients. There was a significant effect of mobile phone-based self-management intervention on medication adherence, SBP and DBP values, total cholesterol, and self-management abilities.

Abstract

Despite a decline in infant mortality rates (IMR) over the years, it remains a critical issue. Evidence-based interventions could prevent many infant deaths, but barriers such as a lack of health specialists and poor care quality persist. This study aims to assess the impact of an educational program on skin-to-skin contact to promote Early Essential Newborn Care (EENC) among midwives and nurses. Objective to evaluate the effectiveness of an educational program on skin-to-skin contact in improving midwives' and nurses' knowledge and skills related to EENC. A quasi-experimental design without a control group was used. Participants were selected through purposive sampling based on two criteria: 1) Midwives and nurses working in delivery rooms or perinatology units, and 2) Those with over five years of experience. Recruitment involved distributing cooperation requests to midwives and nurses at government hospitals and community health centers across Indonesia. Ultimately, 32 participants were enrolled. The study employed a self-administered questionnaire, pre-test and post-test assessments on skin-to-skin knowledge and skills, and training through video and lecture. Data analysis included descriptive statistics and t-tests. The average age of participants was 41.5 years (SD = 9.57). The training significantly improved knowledge (p = 0.003), though two of twelve questions showed no significant change. Limited participation in EENC training was observed. While the educational program improved overall knowledge, certain areas need further attention. Regular training and continuing education are essential for enhancing midwives' and nurses' skills. Future research will focus on evaluating newborn resuscitation and care initiatives, particularly breastfeeding knowledge.

Abstract

Hemodialysis (HD) is the main therapy for patients with end-stage renal disease (ESRD) in Indonesia, but the patients' quality of life is lower than other methods due to the physical and psychological effects of HD. One of the therapies that can be used to reduce the effects of HD is relaxation therapy. Objective: This review aims to analyse the effectiveness of relaxation therapy in managing physical and psychological symptoms to improve the quality of life of HD patients. Method: A literature review using databases such as Pubmed, Science Direct, Scopus, Sage Journal and Proquest to search for relevant articles within the period 2020-2024. Results: A review of twelve articles shows that relaxation therapy is effective for pain, fatigue, stress, depression, anxiety, sleep quality and patient quality of life. Conclusions: Relaxation therapy can be integrated into routine care and is feasible for nurses to provide because of its simplicity so that patients can do it themselves at home. Nurses also need to conduct further research into other non-pharmacological therapies that are widely effective for patients with ESRD.
