Abstract

This study aimed to reveal the affirmation of the ecological movement through Iwan Fals' green lyrics. There are three lyrics song chosen in this study, entitled Isi Rimba tak ada tempat berpijak lagi, Tak biru lagi lautku, and Balada orang pedalaman. Actually, there are many liryca by Iwan Fals that told about the environment, but these three themes are taken as a form of musicians' rage towards the increasingly disturbed environment. Ecological Theory is the most effective approach to analyze each verse of this lyric. Garrard (2004) said that eco-critical perception helps to open, determine, explore, and even solve ecological problems in a broader and more detailed manner. The method used in this research is descriptive qualitative method, content analysis method or content analysis to examine the contents of a document. The results of this study indicate that 1) Isi Rimba tak ada tempat berpijak lagi as a representation of corrupt capitalist criticism, 2) Tak biru lagi lautku as a figurative form of ecological anxiety, and 3) Balada orang pedalaman as a romance of human life and nature which is lost by the greed of capitalist humans .

Abstract

This research aimed to reveal the phenomenon of death in literary work. The theme of death is sometimes ignored by literary critics because it is often seen as a spice in the story. In fact, the narrative of death has a very significant that determines the plot in the story. Ross (2009) a French psychologist put forward the theoretical concept of this phenomenon with the theory of death and dying. Psychologically, there are several stages that are experienced by people who are facing terminal illness or people who are left behind in the face of death. Departing from several conceptual deaths, the researchers determined the research data source in the form of a story by John Green entitled "The Fault in Our Stars". This phenomenal story is very well known among teenagers and has even been encrypted in the form of a movie. This story received various awards both in the form of a printed narrative and after being filmed. The story of this story is dominated by teenage romance and the struggle with cancer. However, it is interesting to study how the attitude of the people around them, including the main characters in dealing with death. By using Kubler Ross theory, there are two variables that would be found. First, the phenomenon of death and dying as the general perception in dealing with death and dying reflected in the story The Fault in Our Stars . Second, the psychological stages experienced by the character in facing death in the story.

Abstract

For the Tana AI people in Sika Flores Regency, NTT, names are not just names, but names given by parents have philosophical and cultural meanings from each character of the name. Personal name in the form of Nickname or Substitute Name is used to avoid misuse of the original name; third, Personal Name with Clan Name; and Proper Name with Modern Name. From this understanding, this research is a type of qualitative descriptive research, while the theoretical basis for interpreting the characteristics of names is anthroponymy which is explained by (Ziolkowska, 2011) that one of the elements that can be used to identify people is character names. Based on the results of the analysis, there are three characters of names in the Tana Ai community, namely, (1) Names Connect the Past and the Future. For the Tana Ai people, names are not just accessories and signs for each individual to complete personal identity; the Tana Ai people consider the name a representation of the past; (2) The name is a sign, the Tana Ai people's name is related to their lineage, ancestry, hopes, virtues and so on; (3) As part of Creation, the Tana Ai people believe in a great power that is beyond human ability, a power that makes everything more harmonious and orderly, namely the power of creation. This research is a local wisdom in giving proper names to the Tana Ai people, it is hoped that the Tana Ai people can pass them on to generations because proper names are a form of respect for the person who owns the name, as well as a bond that connects the ancestors with all their descendants.

Abstract

This study aims to reveal the relationship between humans and the nature as represented in the mythical narrative of a tree called the sacred of Bumbum. The background of this research is the importance of bringing back the local wisdom values of the community, especially in the old Malay villages in Riau Island, which are increasingly marginalized. As a form of folk narrative, myth is an integral part of the oral literary component. To bridge literature with people's behavior, researchers used a literary anthropological approach (Vayda, 1968). While the relationship between humans and nature could be studied with an ecological approach. This research is descriptive-qualitative in nature, namely the method used to explain the condition of a system of thought or events in the present and then make a description in a systematic, factual, and accurate manner regarding the factors, nature, and relationships between the phenomena being investigated. The ecological bond between humans and the environment is reflected through: 1) the prohibition of cutting down trees; 2) the prohibition of picking leaves and tree trunks; and 3) the prohibition of defecating around trees. These forms of prohibition reflect the ecological relations of mythical discourse, which imply existence, attachment, and concern that are not just silent but live and must be kept in harmony with one another.

Abstract

A matter of great interest to researchers in the field of education today is how to improve students' well-being, engagement, or learning achievement in tertiary level contexts. Some scholars suggest to start from the assessment of students' satisfaction upon their basic psychological needs. However, recently, the number of validated tools to assess the satisfaction of the basic psychological needs is still rare. This study measured the validity and reliability of an adapted basic psychological needs theory used in foreign language learning. There were two developed questionnaires to identify basic psychological needs which covers a different number of indicators. The study presented empirical evidence of validity and reliability using the Rasch Model. This pilot study was conducted in two different universities and cities, Indonesia. There were 34 students as a participant in this study. Data were analyzed using WINSTEPS version 3.69.1.11. Results show that the instrument that can measure BPN in the context of English courses at the tertiary level is feasible to use in measuring BPN. The researchers only got one invalid item from the "relatedness" indicator.
