Jurnal of Ide Bahasa (e-ISSN 2685-0559 and p-ISSN 2684-673X) is published twice a year, June and December. Each issue will be published at least 5 articles. Jurnal of Ide Bahasa focuses on language, literature, and language learning with various dimensions of languages all over the world. The journal serves as a medium of ideas exchange and research findings from various traditions of learning that have interacted in a scholarly manner. The journal follows peer review policy. The paper is sent to many reviewers (the experts in the respective field) to review the paper in the light of journal guidelines and features of a quality research paper. For papers which require changes, the same reviewers will ensure that the quality of the revised paper is acceptable. This journal provides immediate open access to its content on the principle that making research freely available to the public supports a greater global exchange of knowledge.

Abstract

This research aims to describe the form of phatic categories and the function of phatic categories in the novel ALVASKA by Matcharay. This research method uses quantitative literature research methods. Data collection methods and techniques use listening and note-taking techniques. The data collection technique is carried out by identifying data based on the form and function of phatic categories. Based on the results of the research and discussion, it can be concluded that the phatic category in the novel ALVASKA by Matcharay is as follows (1) the phatic category can be found in four forms, namely kok, kan, sih, deh, lah, tuh, ah, dong, you know, mah, here , and well,, yeah, come on, hey, and come on. (2) the phatic category function is contained in eight functions, namely emphasizing the feeling of rejection, emphasizing the reason, emphasizing the feeling of approval, emphasizing the invitation, just emphasizing (simple), emphasizing proof, starting a conversation, and justifying the statement.

Abstract

Pragmatics is the study of language usage in relation to its context. In buying and selling interactions, sellers and buyers use spoken language to facilitate the transaction process. Regarding this, the market is the location where sellers and buyers interact to carry out buying and selling transactions. In everyday life, implicatures are used not because one does not want to cooperate in a conversation, but there are more prioritized reasons that cannot comply with all the maxims studied in pragmatics. Sumani Market was chosen as the research site, which is located in the X Koto Singkarak District, Solok Regency. Sumani Market is one of the largest traditional markets in Koto Singkarak and serves as a major trading center. The type and research method used in this study are qualitative research with a descriptive method. Abstract

The aim of this research is to describe the form and function of verbs in the folktale "Si Buyung Besar". The method used in this research is literature. The data collection technique in this research is the technique of reading, taking notes and managing the content of the story. The data source that researchers used in the research was the story "Si Buyung Besar". The results of this research show that the verb forms in the story "Si Buyung Besar" are departing, arriving, ringing, flocking, changing, welcoming, shaking hands, greeted, answering, welcoming, admiring, proud, going home, paying attention, and running. The functions of the verbs found in the story "Si Buyung Besar" are function as predicate, function as object, function as subject, function as information, function as complement.

Abstract

This research aims to determine the categories of word classes contained in the Si Tugan Bulu folklore from the Toba Batak region. In the linguistic dictionary, the definition of morphology is the field of linguistics that studies morphemes and their combinations or parts of language structure which include words and parts of words, namely morphemes. This research used theory of morphemes as discussed by Chaer (2012) where a linguistic concept focusing on the smallest grammatical units in a language. Morphemes carry meaning and function as the foundation of morphology, shaping words and their structures.The method used in this research is the library research method. The results and research of this and the word class categories in the short story "Si Tagan Bulu originating from Toba Batak can be expressed in the form of nouns, adjectives, verbs, prepositions, interjections, conjunctions, reduplications, numarelia, pronouns. demonstrativa introgativa, adverbs.

Abstract

The aimed of this research is to describe the implementation and meaning of the Manyabik Padi Sarentak tradition in Nagari Sumpur Kudus, Sijunjung Regency, West Sumatra Province. The theory used in this research is the symbolic interpretive theory of Clifford Geerzt. The method used is a qualitative method, with data collection techniques of observation, interviews and documentation. The results of the research show that the background of the Manyabik Padi Sarentak tradition, apart from reducing pests, is also related to the arrival of Sheikh Ibrahim to Sumpur Kudus in 1503, where he taught the community to open rice fields, plow and plant rice, but inwardly taught the Islamic religion. The order of implementation of the Manyabik Padi Sarentak tradition is the meeting to determine palakat, Manyabik Padi, Maangkuik Padi Ka Ungguak, Mangiriak Ungguak Padi, Mangipeh Padi, Manjomuagh Padi, Bakawuagh Adat, and Mamanggang Jami. The general meaning of this tradition is togetherness in the context of the time it started. The meaning of implementing this tradition is a process of equalizing perceptions, economic meaning and employment opportunities, community adaptation to technology, local wisdom, expressions of gratitude and simplicity, tolerance and tolerance.

Abstract

One of the popular heroines from a Chinese legend in a movie produced by Disney Film is Hua Mulan which also plays a significant role in inspiring audiences around the world. This qualitative research aims at identifying the images displayed by the main character Hua Mulan in the action movie Mulan (2020) from the Chinese philosophical perspective and explaining the attractiveness of the film from a popular culture perspective. The primary data were gathered through careful observation of the main Chinese heroine character Hua Mulan from film scenes. They were then analyzed by using Barthes’ semiotic theory to conceptualize the depiction of the character from the Chinese philosophical perspective and to relate it to the elements of popular culture. The study revealed that Hua Mulan could signify the value of filial piety and courage, particularly in the perspective of Chinese philosophy. From a popular culture view, the legendary characterization of Hua Mulan was the main attraction to draw audience’s attention, especially those who expected to see the Chinese heroine in a colossal action movie played by popular actors.

Abstract

This research aims at identifying the American English accents produced by the Americans. The American phonation was taken from Thomas’ book, An Introduction to the Phonetics of American English. This qualitative research took the data from the English speeches spoken by the famous Americans on YouTube. This research applied the observational method to collect the data, and a phonological approach, identity method, and articulatory phonetic identification to analyze the data. It is identified that the Americans have true [t], flap [t]. held [t], and vanishing [t]. The dark [l] and the light [l] are also articulated. The Americans pronounce the bunched [ɹ] and R-colored vowels, and they drop the final [r]. The article a is pronounced as /e/, /ɒ/ is pronounced as /ɑ:/, and /ɑ:/ is pronounced as /æ/. The letter <o> is pronounced as [oʊ].

Abstract

This qualitative research aimed at finding out the assertive acts. To fulfill the objective of this research, the researchers used Searle and Vanderveken’s theory about assertive acts. The theory was applied to the “Spider-man No Way Home” movie as the data source. The movie was chosen because the characters mostly uttered the truth about the hero’s struggles in the movie. In collecting the data, the researchers applied the observational method. This method was used to observe the use of language based on the context of an utterance and it was followed by a note-taking technique to get valid data. In analyzing the data, the researchers used the pragmatic identity method followed by the pragmatic competence in equalizing technique. This technique aimed to equalize the data with the theory pragmatically. Finally, the result was displayed narratively and descriptively. The researchers discovered twenty-three out of thirty-two acts of assertiveness. The acts were asserting, affirming, stating, denying, assuring, arguing, informing, reminding, objecting, predicting, reporting, suggesting, insisting, hypothesizing, guessing, swearing, admitting, confessing, accusing, blaming, praising, complaining, and boasting. The researchers did not find any claiming, disclaiming, rebutting, notifying, retrodicting, conjecturing, testifying, criticizing, or lamenting. The most frequently appeared was informing act. Characters' utterances contained more social meaning in conveying information to the interlocutors. The utterances were not only uttered by the speakers, who were the ones who got the effect, but also by the hearers. The utterances occurred because it was based on a situation that caused the speaker to express the statements

Abstract

This study investigated several Impoliteness utterances expressed by Gordon Ramsay in "Hell's Kitchen" reality show. This study used descriptive qualitative analysis to categorize the data. Observational methods and taking a note were applied to collect the data by Sudaryanto. Following that, the data were analyzed using the competence - in equalizing technique and the Pragmatic Identity Method to examine the data in context. Impoliteness contained five strategies. There were 33 impoliteness strategies in the data. sixteen data of bald on record Impoliteness. nine data of negative impoliteness. four data of Positive Impoliteness. two data of sarcasm impoliteness. And two data of withhold impoliteness. Gordon Ramsay’s utterances in “Hell’s Kitchen” reality show mostly uttered bald on record impoliteness strategy. Abstract

TThis study aims to discover the challenges in interpreting English into Indonesian. When the the source language (SL) speaker delivers a speech, and interpreters convey the meaning into the Indonesian language as target language (TL). This study used qualitative research method. Data were collected by using the interview, open-ended questions to obtain main data from the respondents. Respondents are Indonesian interpreters in Indonesia as they have more than five years of experience in interpreting. The collected data are transcribed and deeply analyzed, grouped and compared with the different and similar data to recent research results, explained by using words and texts and applied a table to display the results of challenges English in interpreting. The results of this research indicate the challenges English in interpreting. First, the most challenging faced by interpreters is long talks. Second, the lack of pronunciation is more challenging to record all words pronounced from the speech. And the third, topic mastery is the basic challenging as the source of materials are not available and there is not much time to approach the speakers’ source language (SL).
