Jurnal of Ide Bahasa (e-ISSN 2685-0559 and p-ISSN 2684-673X) is published twice a year, June and December. Each issue will be published at least 5 articles. Jurnal of Ide Bahasa focuses on language, literature, and language learning with various dimensions of languages all over the world. The journal serves as a medium of ideas exchange and research findings from various traditions of learning that have interacted in a scholarly manner. The journal follows peer review policy. The paper is sent to many reviewers (the experts in the respective field) to review the paper in the light of journal guidelines and features of a quality research paper. For papers which require changes, the same reviewers will ensure that the quality of the revised paper is acceptable. This journal provides immediate open access to its content on the principle that making research freely available to the public supports a greater global exchange of knowledge.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui sejauh mana pemahaman dan pandangan peserta didik kelas VIII SMP Negeri 1 Kota Tarakan mengenai teks prosedur. Metode penelitian yang digunakan berupa observasi, penyebaran angket, dan wawancara terhadap peserta didik kelas VIII. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa banyak peserta didik yang telah memahami pengertian teks prosedur dengan baik, tetapi masih kesulitan dalam membedakan jenisnya dan juga menuliskan teks prosedur yang disebabkan oleh faktor kurangnya motivasi dan minat peserta didik. Guru melakukan pendekatan yang berbeda dan melalui pemilihan bentuk evaluasi yang adaptif serta pemilihan jenis strategi pembelajaran yang menggunakan pendekatan peserta didik terhadap lingkungan sekitar mengenai teks prosedur terutama dalam keterampilan menulis teks prosedur.

Abstract

This study aims to identify and analyze the illocutionary speech acts performed by the main character, Miles Morales, in the animated film Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, and to interpret how these acts contribute to the construction of his identity. The data source consists of Miles Morales’ utterances throughout the film. The study applies Searle’s classification of speech acts as its theoretical framework, which includes five categories: assertive, directive, expressive, commissive, and declarative. Using a qualitative descriptive method within a pragmatic approach, data were collected through careful observation and transcription of relevant dialogue. The collected utterances were then classified and analyzed based on the five types of illocutionary acts. The findings are presented in the form of percentages to show the distribution of each speech act category. The results indicate that assertive (36%) and expressive (32%) acts are the most frequently used, followed by directive (28%) and commissive (4%), with no declarative acts identified. These findings suggest that Miles Morales constructs his identity largely through statements of belief and emotional expression, reflecting a character in emotional transition and self-discovery. Therefore, illocutionary acts in this film not only serve pragmatic functions but also play a crucial role in representing character identity within popular media narratives.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the expressive speech acts contained in the utterance “ndasmu” delivered by Indonesia’s 8th President, Prabowo Subianto, during a political speech at the 17th anniversary of the Gerindra Party. The data were obtained from the video of the speech and comments from netizens on social media platforms. The theoretical framework is based on Searle’s (1979) theory of expressive speech acts, which views such utterances as reflections of the speaker’s psychological state toward a specific situation. This research employed a descriptive qualitative method. Data were collected through documentation and observation, while the analysis involved categorizing netizen responses into positive, negative, and humorous reactions. The findings reveal that the utterance “ndasmu” is a spontaneous emotional expression representing displeasure, which received a variety of responses from the public. These responses demonstrate how expressive speech acts in political communication can trigger broad social reactions and contribute to digital political discourse.

Abstract

The aim of the research is to describe how language dominance manifested in the spontaneous speech of a bilingual child. It focused on Ritsuki, a 3.5-year-old girl raised in a Japanese-Indonesian household, whose daily interactions were documented on the Ueno Family Japan YouTube channel. This research used psycholinguistics approach, which emphasized that language development was shaped by meaningful interaction and the frequency of use in real-life settings. Using a qualitative case study method, the research examines the child's natural language use across various everyday contexts. For data collection, three video recordings were selected for analysis based on the presence of verbal interactions between Ritsuki and her parents or peers. Each video was transcribed to capture Ritsuki’s utterances and to identify patterns of language use. The analysis focused on lexical choices and contextual cues that indicated language preference or dominance. The findings revealed that Ritsuki demonstrated Japanese dominance during structured routines, such as greetings and activities with her Japanese-speaking father. Indonesian was more commonly used in informal, relaxed conversations with her Indonesian mother and during peer interactions. Overall, these patterns suggested that Ritsuki’s language dominance was context-dependent, shaped by the speakers she interacted with and the social functions of each language in her environment.

Abstract

This study is a phonological analysis that discusses the sounds of letters spoken in English words viewed from phonology and phonetics. The purpose of this study is to describe the use of sound patterns on vowels and consonants of English words. This study identifies the sound shifting produced by the Myanmar speaker. The data were collected by using observation method. The technique used was the recording and note-taking. Then, the data were analyzed by using phonetic articulatory identity method. The theories used were Roach, Fasold and Connor-Linton, Finegan, Ladefoged and Disner, and Skandera and Burleigh's theories related to the pronunciation corresponding to English phonetic symbols. Furthermore, the results of data analysis were presented by using descriptive narrative. The phonological issues occurred in term of deletion, insertion, and alteration. There were some sounds shifted and neutralized to the speaker’s first language. The effect of first language pronunciation makes the English pronunciation unstandardized.

Abstract

Novel Arus Bawah mencerminkan perjuangan kelompok subaltern terhadap kelompok penguasa yang menahan dan menghalangi kemerdekaan dan kemakmuran masyarakat yang telah merdeka. Situasi ini menjadikan para intelektual, termasuk pengarang, melakukan perlawanan agar terbebas dari ketertindasan penguasa yang otoriter. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah menganalisis formasi dan negosiasi ideologi yang ditemukan di dalam novel Arus Bawah agar dapat dipahami kontestasi ideologi yang dilakukan pengarang sebagai ekspresi kaum intelektual. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode deskriptif kualitatif dengan menggunakan konsep Hegemoni Gramsci. Pengumpulan data menggunakan teknik simak. Data dianalisis dengan langkah-langkah, yaitu 1) mengklasifikasikan data; 2) memilih data yang relevan dengan masalah; 3) melakukan analisis data dengan konsep Gramsci; 4) membuat laporan penelitian. Hasil penelitian menunjukan bahwa formasi ideologi antara tokoh Punakawan (refleksi dari masyarakat subaltern) dengan tokoh Pak Kades dan Jogoboyo (refleksi dari penguasa/ pemerintah), yaitu tokoh Punakawan menghadirkan ideologi nasionalis-humanis yang terwujud dalam nilai Pancasila terhadap ideologi dominan yang terefleksi melalui tokoh Pak Kades dan Jogoboyo, yaitu militerisme. Nasionalis-Humanisme merupakan ideologi yang ingin dinegosiasikan pengarang sebagai bentuk penawaran kepada masyarakat pembaca tentang cara pandang baru, yaitu memiliki moral yang baik dan memiliki cara berpikir yang berguna untuk kepentingan masyarakat agar dapat memperbaiki kehidupan.

Abstract

Pembelajaran bagi pemelajar asing memerlukan pendekatan yang tepat agar proses pemerolehan bahasa dan pemahaman budaya dapat berlangsung secara optimal. Salah satu pendekatan yang dinilai efektif adalah metode pengajaran interaktif. Tujuan penelitian ini untuk menganalisis penerapan metode pengajaran interaktif pada pengajaran BIPA bagi pemelajar asing Kamboja dan Thailand di Direktorat KUI Universitas Muhammadiyah Jakarta. Sumber data dari hasil pembelajaran orang asing di KUI. Teori yang digunakan menggunakan teori pembelajarn interaktif. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode deskriptif kualitatif. Data penelitian diperoleh melalui observasi, dokumentasi berupa materi ajar dan catatan pembelajaran. Subjek penelitian adalah pemelajar asing asal Kamboja dan Thailand yang mengikuti program pembelajaran di Direktorat KUI Universitas Muhammadiyah Jakarta. Analisis data dilakukan melalui tahapan reduksi data, penyajian data, dan penarikan kesimpulan. Hasil penelitian Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa penerapan metode pengajaran interaktif mampu meningkatkan partisipasi aktif pemelajar, memperbaiki keterampilan berbahasa, dan menciptakan suasana pembelajaran yang lebih komunikatif dan menyenangkan. Metode ini juga membantu pemelajar dalam memahami konteks sosial dan budaya Indonesia. Kesimpulannya bahwa Penerapan metode pengajaran interaktif pada pemelajar asing asal Kamboja dan Thailand di Direktorat KUI Universitas Muhammadiyah Jakarta terbukti efektif dalam meningkatkan partisipasi, keterampilan berbahasa, dan pemahaman budaya pemelajar.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengkaji persamaan dan perbedaan kata look dan watch dari segi struktur dan makna kalimat, serta menguji apakah kedua kata tersebut dapat saling menggantikan dalam kalimat. Data penelitian diperoleh dari novel Babel karya R.F. Kuang dengan pendekatan deskriptif kualitatif dan analisis semantik kontekstual menggunakan teori sinonimi dari para ahli. Teknik pengumpulan data dilakukan melalui baca-catat kalimat yang mengandung kata look dan watch, kemudian dianalisis secara mendalam dari aspek bentuk kata, makna menurut kamus Oxford Languages, serta teknik substitusi sinonim. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa look lebih sering digunakan untuk tindakan melihat singkat atau penampilan, umumnya disertai preposisi dan berfungsi sebagai verba atau nomina. Sebaliknya, watch menggambarkan pengamatan aktif dengan durasi lama sebagai verba transitif atau nomina tertentu. Substitusi antara look dan watch tidak selalu menghasilkan kalimat yang tepat secara struktur dan makna, sehingga keduanya masuk kategori sinonim sebagian (near-synonyms) yang hanya dapat dipertukarkan dalam konteks terbatas. Penelitian ini memberikan kontribusi pada pemahaman semantik kata sinonim dalam karya sastra modern.

Abstract

The ability to write explanatory texts is a crucial component of Indonesian language learning at the junior high school level. One of the common challenges is students’ low performance in organizing ideas and structuring texts coherently. This study aims to examine the effectiveness of the Artificial Intelligence-based media Google Gemini in improving students’ ability to write explanatory texts. The research employed a quantitative method with a quasi-experimental design using a one-group pretest-posttest model. The sample consisted of one class, namely class VIII-A of SMPN 3 Sodonghilir, with a total of 32 students. Research instruments included a writing test and a student motivation questionnaire. Data were collected through written tests and analyzed using the Wilcoxon Signed Ranks Test and simple regression analysis. The results showed a significant improvement in scores from a pretest average of 28.97 to a posttest average of 87.97, with a significance value of 0.000. Regression analysis indicated that learning motivation did not significantly influence learning outcomes, with a significance value of 0.492. Google Gemini proved to be an effective tool for enhancing students’ ability to write explanatory texts.

Abstract

This research aimed to identify the lexical cohesion in the “Tim Ferriss” podcast. The researchers adhered to the theory of Paltridge (2012) regarding lexical cohesion. There are six types of lexical cohesion introduced by Paltridge (2012). The research design was qualitative. The observational method and note-taking technique were employed to collect the research data. There were several steps in collected data, the researchers watched the entire interviewing podcast, then the researchers took notes and transcribed the spoken discourse. Next, the researchers highlighted the data base on the theory. In analyzing the data, this research used referential identity method and a coding process in the analysis of data. There several steps in analyzing data, the researchers read carefully the highlighted data. Next, the researchers coded data by marking and give number to data based on the research questions. Then researchers reduced the extensive data by selecting the main data. Finally, the researchers analyzed and identify the selected main data base on the research theory. The results of this research were clarified and displayed informally in the form of words to sentences. The results revealed the reference was the frequently utilized in the podcast due to the speaker and the hearer commonly refer to persons, things, proximity and describe comparisons between instances or elements in the discourse.
