Abstract

The negotiation of Muslim worship during the pandemic Covid-19 is very important to reflect on as a lesson learned after the pandemic Covid-19. This study, in addition to provide a conceptual understanding of the pattern of negotiating Muslim worship during the pandemic Covid-19, reflected this negotiation contextually. Data collection was carried out through an interview with Muslims who actively carried out worship activities in the congregation during the pandemic Covid-19 at the Kotagede Mataram Gede Mosque. The analysis was carried out through the process of reducing, describing, and inductively interpreting data to obtain a classification and conclusion regarding the pattern of negotiating Muslim worship during the pandemic Covid-19. This study found that the pattern of negotiating Muslim worship during the pandemic Covid-19 was not least carried out through three contexts, namely, a negotiation in a structural context, a negotiation in a cultural context, and a negotiation in a spiritual context. These three contexts were an effort of Muslim resilience in accommodating their worship activities during the pandemic Covid-19.

Abstract

The people of Aji Kuning have a high dependence on the Malaysian state, especially regarding employment and the fulfillment of basic needs. In the midst of these conditions, the Government actually made efforts to discipline citizens who wanted to enter and exit the country's borders. Elaborating biopolitical theory from Michael Foucault and resistance theory from James Scott, this article analyzes efforts to discipline the body (biopolitics) of residents in the border areas and the responses that arise to these conditions. This research applies qualitative ethnographic research with the unit of analysis of residents in the Aji Kuning Village. The results showed that the body discipline (biopolitics) efforts were carried out using two practices at once. First, discipline through internalization of understanding of the subject to further increase nationalism (the love of the homeland). Second, the discipline carried out by institutions and civil apparatus is under state control, and is accompanied by several regulations. The response that appears to the disciplinary efforts is that citizens fight by playing with the rules outside the country's borders. The form of resistance is divided into two, namely (1) hidden resistance (hidden transcript) is carried out by passing through rats (illegal), circumventing the applicable rules, and having two citizenship statuses. (2) Open resistance (public transcript) shall be carried out by swearing annoyance and protest against the rules outside the country's borders which are considered too strict such as the difficulty of activating dead passports and the number of corrupt officers.

Abstract

This research aims at analyzing auses and impacts of political conflicts, as well as changes in the governance structure and conditions following the establishment of new autonomous regions. The study employs a mixed methods approach using an exploratory sequential design. The research is conducted in Sorong City, Southwest West Papua Province, utilizing cluster random sampling. Data collection techniques involve questionnaires, observations, interviews, document analysis, and triangulation. Data analysis follows an explanatory sequential mixed methods approach, involving descriptive statistical analysis and qualitative analysis. The research findings indicate that the causes of political conflict are attributed to changes in regional governance and power redistribution stemming from polarization based on social and cultural differences, as well as differences in political views and ideologies leading to conflicts among elite political parties competing for power. The impact of these conflicts has resulted in the instability of governance and hindered government decision-making, prompting government efforts to address these issues through dialogue and communication, with civil society playing a role as pressure groups and peace agents. Furthermore, there have been no structural changes in governance because the new autonomy policy primarily aims at political objectives to mitigate conflicts, with economic and administrative goals not yet being the primary focus. Additionally, the condition of governance is in the process of improvement as the new government is engaged in restructuring and infrastructure development, thus making the governance condition currently unstable.
