Abstract

Indonesia has legalized abortion under certain conditions, such as pregnancy resulting from rape, through Government Regulation No. 28/2004. This policy has sparked heated debate because it contradicts the principle of protecting the right to life of the fetus. This study aims to provide a complex overview of the issue of abortion in Indonesia and its implications for human rights. The method used is normative legal research. This research is conducted by examining library materials or secondary data. The two approaches used are a statutory approach related to the legal issue of abortion and a conceptual approach to examine the medical legal understanding of abortion due to rape. Cases of sexual violence and rape in Indonesia are still high. In 2023, Komnas Perempuan recorded 2,078 cases of sexual violence, of which 143 were rapes. Abortion, in this context, is often used as a solution to address unwanted pregnancies. This research shows that while Government Regulation No. 28 of 2024 provides legitimacy to abortion, it is still contrary to the right to life of the fetus guaranteed by law. While abortion is considered a violation of the right to life, this policy is also considered a protection for women victims of sexual violence. Despite arguments to protect women's rights, the right to life of the fetus as a non-derogable right should not be ignored. Therefore, there needs to be a review of this regulation to ensure that all human rights, including the right to life of the fetus, are optimally protected.

Abstract

Methyl methacrylate (MMA) is a significant organic compound utilized across diverse industrial sectors. This research study aims to examine the separation of azeotropic systems containing MMA derived from the C4 route. The primary focus of this examination is on vapor-liquid equilibrium (VLE) data for binary systems of methacrylic acid (MAA) and water, as well as methacrylic acid and MMA. The study will be conducted under vacuum pressures of 26 kPa and 50 kPa. The objective of this study is to generate and analyze VLE data, thereby facilitating a comprehensive understanding of the azeotropic behavior and non-ideal interactions in these systems. The VLE data were obtained using a modified Rose-Williams type recirculation still. The azeotropic composition of the methacrylic acid and water system was confirmed, and the data were validated through Herrington and van Ness methods to ensure thermodynamic consistency. The findings indicate that the excess of the calculated Gibbs free energy and activity coefficient substantiates the non-ideal behavior. In conclusion, this study provides valuable insights into the design and optimization of the MMA by-product separation process. To further refine the model and enhance its predictive capabilities, additional research is recommended, focusing on exploring the impact of diverse experimental conditions and evaluating the efficacy of alternative predictive models.

Abstract

Sustainable rural development is critical to improving the economic, social and environmental well-being of rural communities. However, challenges such as inadequate infrastructure and limited access to essential services impede progress. Information and Communication Technology (ICT) offers innovative solutions to overcome these barriers. This research aims to explore the role of ICT in sustainable rural development, focusing on its applications in the agriculture, health, education and governance sectors. The research used a mixed approach, combining policy analysis, stakeholder interviews, case studies, as well as secondary data analysis and spatial modeling. Data were collected through surveys and GIS data analysis to identify the role of ICTs in sustainable rural development. Findings show that the use of ICTs, such as GIS and mobile applications, has improved land use planning and resource management. About 80% of respondents have access to mobile phones, but only 50% have internet access, suggesting barriers to digital adoption. While ICTs have the potential to enhance rural development, challenges such as digital literacy and infrastructure deficiencies remain a barrier. Strategic investments and collaboration between stakeholders are needed to maximize the impact of ICTs. This research demonstrates that ICT integration in rural planning can foster sustainable development. Although significant challenges exist, recommendations including investment in digital infrastructure and digital literacy training programs are essential to optimize the benefits of ICT for rural communities. Strategic implementation of such recommendations can transform rural communities towards a more sustainable and resilient future.
