Abstract

Abstract

An effective arrester earthing system at distribution substations is crucial for conducting lightning currents to prevent Ground Potential Rise (GPR). Initial measurements at PD.0431 substation showed a resistance of 6.7 Ω, exceeding the PUIL 2020 limit of 5 Ω. This study aims to reduce resistance by adding parallel rod electrodes. Measurements were taken using an Earth Tester with the potential drop method, while GPR, touch voltage, and step voltage analyses were simulated with CYMGrd (1000 A fault current). The results showed that the addition of four electrodes reduced the resistance from 6.08 Ω to 1.97 Ω, meeting the standard. Simulations showed a 52.7% reduction in GPR, a 73.9% reduction in touch voltage, and a 74.7% reduction in step voltage. The post-improvement ground potential contour was also more uniform. This study proves that the parallel electrode configuration effectively reduces resistance while mitigating GPR risks. This method is recommended for substations with similar characteristics.

Abstract

Indonesia's high dependency on betaine surfactant imports, which grow at 8.15% per year, necessitates the development of domestic production based on local raw materials. This study aims to design an Amidopropyl Betaine plant from Hydrogenated Palm Kernel Oil (HPKO) with a capacity of 20,000 tons per year. The production process consists of three main stages: amidation reaction (85% conversion), separation and purification via distillation, and carboxymethylation reaction (99% conversion). An economic feasibility analysis yielded a Net Present Value (NPV) of Rp 325 billion, Return on Investment (ROI) of 36.93%, Payback Period (PBP) of 1.53 years, Internal Rate of Return (IRR) of  29,38%, and Break-Even Point (BEP) of 35.84%, indicating that the plant is highly feasible and profitable. This study concludes that the establishment of an HPKO-based betaine surfactant plant is not only techno- economically feasible but also strategic for reducing import dependency and adding value to the national palm oil industry.

Abstract

The high incidence of home burglaries in Indonesia has driven the need for the development of more modern and effective security systems compared to conventional manual locks, which still have many weaknesses. This research develops an Internet of Things (IoT)-based home door security system by implementing face detection as the primary authentication method. The system is designed using an ESP32 as the main controller, integrated with an ESP32-CAM for face recognition, a 4x4 keypad as a PIN input medium, an SW-420 vibration sensor to detect forced break-in attempts, a buzzer as a warning alarm, and a solenoid door lock as the door-opening and locking actuator. The system operates with two authentication mechanisms, namely face recognition and PIN input, thereby providing layered security. If the authentication process is successful, the door will open automatically and the system will send a notification reading "Door opened, welcome" via the Telegram application to the homeowner. Conversely, if authentication fails or the vibration sensor detects vibrations indicating a break-in attempt, the system will activate the buzzer as a local alarm and send a real-time warning message reading "Danger alert, there is an unauthorized person at the house." Test results show that the system is capable of recognizing registered faces with a good level of accuracy and sending notifications with a delay of less than 3 seconds. With its dual authentication features and real-time notifications, this system is considered capable of significantly improving home security compared to conventional methods.

Abstract

Product quality is the main factor determining the competitiveness of bottled drinking water (AMDK) companies. PT Amanah Insanillahia, as one of the AMDK producers, still faces problems related to the high number of defective products, especially in the 600 ml bottle manufacturing process, with an average defect percentage of 1.40%, exceeding the company’s target of 1.00%. This study aims to identify the dominant types of defects and propose quality control improvement measures for the 600 ml bottle manufacturing process. The research data consist of primary and secondary data collected through observation, interviews, and production documentation. The methods used in this study are Statistical Process Control (SPC) supported by process mapping, Critical to Quality (CTQ), check sheets, Pareto diagrams, and fishbone diagrams, as well as the Failure Mode and Effect Analysis (FMEA) approach. The results show that the Body/Bottom wavy defect is the most dominant type of defect based on Pareto analysis. According to the FMEA analysis, the main causes of defects originate from machine factors, work methods, and human factors. The proposed priority improvements include the preparation of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), clear work instructions, and operator training to reduce defect rates and improve product quality.

Abstract

The use of DC distribution is considered more efficient than AC in off-grid PV systems because it reduces energy conversion losses, especially in loads such as LED lights. A comparative study of DC and AC LED lighting is needed to improve the efficiency of offgrid PV systems. This study compares the performance of DC and AC LED bulbs for lighting a 12 V off-grid PV system. Testing on a 12 V off-grid PV system was carried out by collecting data in the form of DC power from a 12 V VRLA battery and light intensity (lux) produced by samples of DC and AC LED bulbs with nominal power of 10 W, 20 W, and 30 W, with uniform technical specifications. The results of the study indicate that DC LED bulbs are more efficient than AC LED bulbs both in power consumption from off-grid PV systems and in producing light. Thus, lighting in a 12 V off-grid PV system is more efficient using DC LED bulbs.
