Abstract

Riau Province has three main rivers: the Kampar, Rokan, and Siak Rivers, which play important roles in water transportation and infrastructure development. River water environments can accelerate the corrosion of metallic materials, including galvanized steel. This study aims to analyze and compare the corrosion rates of galvanized steel in the water media of the three rivers using the weight loss method based on the ASTM G31 standard. The experiments were conducted with immersion time variations of 168, 336, 504, and 672 hours. The observed parameters included mass loss, pH changes, and specimen surface morphology. The results showed that the highest corrosion rate occurred in Kampar River water, reaching 55.888 mpy after 672 hours of immersion, while the lowest corrosion rate was found in Rokan River water at 1.0052 mpy after 168 hours. The chemical characteristics of river water significantly affect the corrosion resistance of galvanized steel.

Abstract

Corrosion of carbon steel in peat water environments is a critical issue due to the acidic nature and high content of organic acids in the medium. This study investigates the corrosion rate and inhibition efficiency of Syzygium polyanthum (bay leaf) extract as a natural corrosion inhibitor for AISI 1037 carbon steel in peat water. The extract was prepared using a maceration method followed by solvent removal with a rotary evaporator. Steel specimens were immersed in peat water without inhibitor and with inhibitor mass concentrations of 3%, 6%, and 9% (v/v) for 28 days. Corrosion rates were determined using the weight loss method, supported by visual surface analysis. The results indicate that bay leaf extract significantly reduces the corrosion rate of AISI 1037 steel. The highest inhibition efficiency of 38.83% was achieved at a concentration of 9% v/v, corresponding to a corrosion rate of 1.66 mpy. These findings demonstrate the potential of bay leaf extract as an environmentally friendly corrosion inhibitor for carbon steel in peat water environments.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze and compare the calculation of cost of goods manufactured (COGM) at UD. Cirasa using traditional methods, Job Order Costing, and Activity Based Costing (ABC). The research employs a comparative approach with data collected through observation and interviews. The results show that the traditional method produces a unit cost of Rp 1,777, the ABC method Rp 1,577, and the Job Order Costing method Rp 1,826. These differences arise from the way overhead costs are allocated in each method. The ABC method provides more accurate results because it assigns costs based on production activities. Therefore, ABC is considered more effective in determining production costs and can be used as a reliable basis for setting appropriate selling prices.

Abstract

This study aims to enhance Motor Vehicle Crash (MVC) prevention efforts in PT. XYZ's operational activities through the implementation of the TASBE PaDaGeSiT innovation. The study was conducted to address the persistently high potential risk of MVC despite the company's achievement of zero incidents in the Motor Vehicle Safety (MVS) aspect. Problem identification and analysis were carried out using fishbone diagrams, Pareto analysis, and Failure Mode and Effect Analysis (FMEA) to determine root causes and prioritize risks requiring control measures. Based on the analysis results, the TASBE innovation, founded on the Plan-Do-Check-Action (PDCA) cycle and strengthened by the PaDaGeSiT behavioral approach, was implemented. The implementation results demonstrated a reduction of more than 50% in Risk Priority Number (RPN) values for major risk factors and an overall risk reduction of 89.8%, resulting in a more controlled risk distribution. These findings indicate that the TASBE PaDaGeSiT innovation is effective in strengthening the MVC prevention system, improving road safety risk control, and supporting the sustainability of the company's zero-incident achievement.

Abstract

The increasing demand for electrical energy in buildings requires the utilization of renewable energy as an alternative power source. One of the applicable solutions is the implementation of rooftop photovoltaic (PV) systems. This study aims to optimize the rooftop PV system capacity based on the available installation area at the BKD Building of Tebing Tinggi City using Helioscope software. The research method was carried out through building electrical load data collection, electrical energy requirement analysis, PV system capacity calculation, installation area requirement analysis, rooftop simulation using Helioscope software, and simple economic analysis. The results showed that the total electrical energy demand of the building was 304,212 Wh/day, with motor loads dominating energy consumption by 91% of the total electrical usage. The required PV system capacity to supply the entire building load was 82.393 kWp with a required installation area of 552.08 m². Based on the Helioscope simulation results, the available effective rooftop area was only 346.8 m², indicating that the PV system for supplying the entire building load was not feasible to implement. The optimization results showed that the most optimal PV configuration was supplying electronic and lighting loads with a capacity of 7,777.15 Wp using 79 solar modules and requiring an installation area of 52.93 m². The economic analysis indicated that the proposed PV system has a simple payback period of approximately 11 years, demonstrating its feasibility for long-term implementation in government buildings. This study demonstrates that rooftop validation using Helioscope software is essential to produce a realistic rooftop PV design that matches actual building conditions.

Abstract

Whiteleg shrimp (Litopenaeus vannamei) is a high-value export commodity that significantly impacts pond water quality, particularly pH and temperature parameters. Conventional pH management is considered slow and unresponsive to sudden changes. This study designed a hybrid system for monitoring and stabilizing pond water pH automatically using an ESP32 microcontroller with Mamdani fuzzy logic. The system integrates pH sensors, MAX6675 temperature sensors, and HC-SR04 ultrasonic sensors as inputs, as well as a drain pump and servo motor as actuators. The hybrid mode allows the system to operate offline or online through the Blynk platform. Test results showed an average error of 0.91% for the temperature and pH sensors, and 0.098% for the ultrasonic sensor. Fuzzy logic testing resulted in 100% agreement on 10 test data sets. This system is expected to improve the efficiency of water quality management and reduce the risk of shrimp mortality due to sudden pH changes.

Abstract

This research analyzes the relationship between flow velocity, head loss, and pump performance in a piping system. The performance parameters evaluated include total head, hydraulic power, and system efficiency. The research using descriptive quantitative approach through the analysis of measurement data and graphical visualization of several parameters. The results showed that head loss increases as the water flow velocity increases. A significant increase in discharge causes greater energy losses within the pipeline, which leads to a decrease in pump efficiency. Based on the evaluation results, pump 4 showed the best performance, the highest efficiency at 65.51%. Meanwhile, pump 2 showed the lowest efficiency at 34.40%. The findings indicate that there is a trade-off between increasing head loss and pump efficiency, whereas higher head loss results in lower pump efficiency. Therefore, determining the optimal operating point is essential to achieve an efficient system.

Abstract

The use of renewable energy has experienced significant developments, especially solar panel technology. Due to the unstable nature of solar energy sources, an energy storage system is needed to maintain the continuity of power supply in the form of batteries. One type of battery is the Lithium Polymer (Li-Po) battery, which is often used because it has a high energy density and good work efficiency. However, over time the battery capacity will decrease so it needs to be charged. When charging, there is a risk of overcharging, so the Constant Current Constant Voltage (CC-CV) charging method is needed. This method is usually combined with a Proportional-Integral (PI) controller to regulate the Buck converter output through signal adjustments so that the current and voltage match the desired values. The use of the combination of the CC-CV method and PI control allows real-time regulation of charging parameters based on the battery's State of Charge (SoC) conditions, thereby extending battery life and improving the safety of solar panel-based energy storage systems.
