Abstract

Soap made from waste cooking oil can be a potential product that can be developed to improve the economy and as an effort to preserve the environment by utilizing household waste. Waste cooking oil can be reprocessed into soap-based ingredients through an oil purification system so that the color is clear and does not smell rancid by using bagasse and orange peel adsorbents in the bleaching process. This service aims to train students' understanding of Mambaul Hikam Islamic boarding school about processing solid and liquid soap from waste cooking oil through the cold process method and the hot process method. The results of the service show firstly, the transfer of knowledge, skills, and affection for making liquid and solid soap using cold and hot process techniques through appropriate technology. Second, the formation of a community of students who can become facilitators in assisting the manufacture of laundry soap from used cooking oil waste. Soap production from this assistance is still an internal use of the Islamic boarding school but the students are expected to be able to increase the production of soap which can improve the economy of the santri and the Mambaul Hikam Islamic boarding school.

Abstract

The Youth Scientific Group (YSG) is an extracurricular activity that has a positive impact on students. Unfortunately, the presence of YSG in various schools, including SMAN 1 Tumpang, is still not optimal. In this high school located in Malang Regency, the YSG activities have not been carried out consistently. The scientific competence and research literacy of students at SMAN 1 Tumpang have not been fully utilized. In response to this issue, the aim of the Community Science and Technology Program (Community Service Program) is to enhance the scientific competence and literacy of students at SMAN 1 Tumpang through mentoring in the preparation of YSG. This Community Service Program consists of several stages, including observation and problem identification, preparation of YSG mentors, material presentation, training and mentoring, activity evaluation, and the preparation of scientific articles as program outputs. The average pretest score of the students' knowledge was 39.67, while the posttest score increased to 93.23. The average N-gain of their knowledge reached 0.836. Based on this N-gain value, the students' knowledge improvement is categorized as high. The paired t-test results indicate a significant difference in students' knowledge related to scientific work before (M = 39.7, SD = 20.6) and after the program (M = 93.2, SD = 7.5), t(30) = 14.6, p < .001. Therefore, the program implemented in the partner school has proven to be beneficial in enhancing students' scientific competence.

Abstract

Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park (TNBTS) is one of the attractive natural tourist destinations in Indonesia, especially in East Java. Besides having natural wealth and beautiful scenery, TNBTS not only offers tourism, but also a fertile agricultural sector. However, the development and management of the sector has not yet been optimized so that it has not had an equitable impact on improving the economy of citizens and the welfare of the community, especially in Tosari District, Pasuruan Regency. Therefore, the purpose of this service is to empower the economy of the community in the Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park (TNBTS) Tosari District, Pasuruan Regency. The findings show that there are 9 farmer groups in the Tosari sub-district that have developed superior products, namely potatoes. The problems experienced by farmer groups in the Tosari sub-district are subsidized fertilizers and the weather that often changes. Another problem faced by farmers in Tosari District is the purchase of harvested goods at low prices by middlemen. So, in this case, the government needs to play a role in supplying subsidized fertilizers and educating farmers regarding climate change. Farmers' groups can synergize with Karang Taruna groups to market and promote Tosari's specialty processed products. Farmers' groups can also synergize with academics in making Tosari's specialty products.

Abstract

As the human population increases, the need for daily living also increases. This has an impact on increasing the amount of waste produced, including hazardous and toxic waste. However, public awareness of managing hazardous and toxic waste is still low. Many people do not separate hazardous and toxic waste from other waste due to a lack of awareness and knowledge about hazardous and toxic waste management. Based on this background, this Community Service activity was carried out to socialize the segregation of household hazardous and toxic waste in the Banjar Serasan community. The method used in this activity is using a case study approach, pre-test, lecture, discussion, and post-test. Before the presentation of material from the resource persons, there were still participants who did not know what household hazardous and toxic waste was, its types, and how to manage it, namely 8 out of 18 participants. After the material was given, all participants managed to understand what hazardous and toxic waste was and ways to apply the management and application of reduce, reuse, and recycle in handling it. Through this activity, it is hoped that it can support increased education for the public regarding the issue of hazardous and toxic waste that is relevant to the SDGs points including point 13, namely climate action.
