Abstract

Farmers often use pesticides to prevent pests and diseases that damage crops and disrupt agricultural yields. Improper use of pesticides can cause poisoning to farmers. This study aimed to determine what factors affect farmers' acute pesticide poisoning. This research was analytical survey research with a cross-sectional design. The research location was in Nenu Village, Cibal District, Manggarai Regency, with the research period from January to November 2020. The population in this study amounted to 106 people, with a total sample of 51 farmers, obtained by simple random technique. The dependent variable was acute pesticide poisoning, while the independent variables consisted of knowledge, application method, spraying frequency, and farmer's behavior. Data were analyzed using the chi-square test. The results showed that knowledge (p-value=0.038), pesticide application methods (p-value=0.017), and farmer behavior (p-value=0.019) related to acute pesticide poisoning. In contrast, spraying frequency does not relate to pesticide poisoning (p-value=0.574). Agricultural extension workers need to assist farmers in using pesticides according to the provisions. Through the public health center, the health service needs to conduct periodic blood checks on farmers to determine the level of pesticide poisoning.

Abstract

The importance of using PPE for waste transport officers is to prevent potential hazards in the workplace. This study identified predisposing factors (knowledge, attitudes, comfort), enabling (availability of PPE and socialization), and reinforcing (supervision and policy) of the behavior of using PPE for waste transporters in 2020. This study is descriptive. The population of this study was 181 waste transport officers at the Environmental Service and Cleanliness of Kupang City. The sampling technique is simple random sampling and a sample of 64 officers. Data were analyzed using a frequency distribution table. The results showed that most respondents had good knowledge and a positive attitude towards PPE with 95.3% and 92.2%. However, as many as 89,1% of respondents expressed uncomfortable feelings using PPE. PP was not available (100%), socialization about PPE during 2020 was never carried out (100%), supervision of the use of PPE during 2020 did not exist (100%), and leadership policies related to PPE during 2020 did not exist (100%). In addition, all respondents did not use PPE completely (100%). The Kupang City Environment and Hygiene Service should consider the condition of PPE that is damaged and unsuitable for use and supports the proposal of parties in the budget so that the office has PPE for waste transport officers.

Abstract

Dengue hemorrhagic fever (DHF) is an acute febrile disease caused by the dengue virus. Indonesia has relatively high cases of DHF, and DHF outbreaks often occur. Various efforts and prevention programs have been carried out, but DHF increases every year. This study aimed to analyze the relationship between mosquito larvae breeding sites and mosquito nest eradication (PSN) with the incidence of DHF in the Oesapa Village, Kupang City, Kelapa Lima District. This research was quantitative research using a cross-sectional study. The research sample was 95 families taken using simple random sampling and the Lemeshow formula. The data was analyzed univariable and bivariable using the chi-square test. The results showed that the factors associated with the incidence of DHF were mosquito larvae breeding sites (p-value = 0.005) and PSN (p-value = 0.014). Implementing 3M Plus movement is necessary to eradicate mosquito larvae, namely draining, closing, and burying. The pluses are using mosquito repellent, mosquito nets, and avoiding the habit of hanging clothes in the house, which can be a mosquito-resting place.

Abstract

Poor planning and distribution generally cause drug expiration problems. Therefore, planning and distribution activities must be carried out according to accounting rules. The purpose of this study was to describe the stages of planning for drug needs and drug distribution at the Ndetundora Community Health Center (Puskesmas). The type of research used was qualitative research. There were three informants in this study whose positions and duties were related to the planning and distribution of drugs. The results showed that at the planning stage of drug needs, the selection was based on the disease most suffered by patients who visited the Puskesmas and referred to DOEN and FORNAS. Drug needs data were collected from all network services at the Puskesmas and calculated using the morbidity/epidemiology method. The research also found problems related to excesses and expired drugs. The problems resulted from the discrepancy between the types of drugs received and the drug requests submitted by the Puskesmas. The Ndetundora Public Health Center and the parties involved need to evaluate and find solutions to the problems in planning and distributing drugs that result in expired and excess drugs.

Abstract

The low level of public nutrition knowledge related to a balanced diet, a good diet, the presence of poor nutrition areas, and the low level of energy and protein adequacy are the causes of nutritional problems in Indonesia. Children under five years old (toddlers) are included in the vulnerable age group, so they need serious attention in efforts to fulfill their nutritional intake. This study described the energy consumption, protein, and nutritional status of toddlers in the orphanage assisted by the Social Service of Kupang City. This type of research was descriptive quantitative with a cross-sectional study approach. The sampling technique in this study used total sampling so that the total population was the same as the number of samples, namely 34 toddlers. The results showed that the highest energy and protein consumption level was in the deficit and normal category, respectively (59%&41%). Nutritional status based on weight/age and height/age index was in the normal category (94% dan 74%). The weight/height index was in a suitable category (88%). Paying more attention to the nutrition of children under five in orphanages is necessary. The orphanage is expected to play an active role in increasing their attention to the level of energy consumption of toddlers by arranging a balanced nutritional menu so that the energy needs of the toddlers can be fulfilled. In addition, the aid provider, either permanent or non-permanent donors or the community, is expected not to assist the orphanage only during the COVID-19 pandemic.
