Abstract

Melalui media sosial, cyberspace sebagai ruang publik baru mampu menarik perhatian publik untuk berkomunikasi dan berinteraksi kapanpun dan di manapun. Cyberspace menggeser kontestasi politik yang semula tentang pertarungan gagasan dan idelogi politik menjadi ajang penampilan aktor. Penggambaran aktor politik yang muncul di media sosial mengarah pada hoaks, ujaran kebencian, dan gosip. Di pedesaan, gosip adalah lokalitas budaya di kalangan ibu-ibu. Budaya gosip membuat seseorang mudah diterima dalam sebuah kelompok atau komunitasnya. Dalam pertarungan politik, gosip dapat digunakan untuk membunuh karakter lawan politik. Seperti dalam Film Pendek “Tilik” ketika gosip tersebut disebarkan ketika situasi pemilihan kepala desa. Gosip mengenai seorang bernama Dian menjadi pemantik obrolan yang ditujukan untuk menjatuhkan lurah petahana. Sebuah film dapat menjadi sebuah cermin atas realitas sosial, sekaligus sebagai agen konstruksi realitas. Perpaduan antara realitas sosial dan agen konstruksi realitas menjadi sarana untuk memahami fenomena yang terjadi dalam masyarakat. Sebagai sebuah refleksi realitas sosial, film seringkali menjadi cerminan keadaan di sekitar kita. Dalam Film Pendek “Tilik”, penokohan Bu Tejo, budaya gosip, dan pertarungan antar kontestan politik adalah sebuah realitas sosial yang terjadi di masyarakat. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui bagaimana gosip dapat digunakan sebagai alat pembunuhan karakter lawan politik di kalangan ibu-ibu pedesaan. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah kualitatif dengan pendekatan analisis naratif dari Tzvetan Todorov yang dimodifikasi oleh Lacey & Gillispie. Struktur narasi Todorov dipakai untuk melihat pembunuhan karakter lawan politik. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pembunuhan karakter lewat gosip yang diceritakan berulang dan terus-menerus dapat menjadikan orang lain mempercayai gosip sebagai sebuah kebenaran.

Abstract

This research was conducted to find out the symbols or signs of masculinity that appear in U Mild's advertisement "Along Jalan Kenangan". This research is a qualitative research using semiotic content analysis method. Researchers conducted an analysis of images or scenes contained in advertisements that show signs or symbols of masculinity. According to. The results of this study indicate that in the U Mild Along Jalan Kenangan advertisement, there are 4 scenes, namely scenes of rock climbing and show off the sportifity, camping in the forest, riding a big motorcycle in the rain and watching a rock concert which contains symbols of masculinity such as big muscles in men. in the rock climbing scene and there is a falling scene showing that the sport is dangerous, in the camping scene in the forest it shows courage and an adventurous spirit as a masculine man and also shows a hunting scene which depicts the mentality of a man who is brave in men, in the scene then shows the adventurous spirit of men, namely riding a big motorbike together when it rains, showing that men are not limited even though rainstorms occur but can still be hit and show strength as men with big body muscles. As well as accessories typical of masculine men such as black clothes, black leather jackets, which are used in scenes of riding motorbikes together and seeing music concerts together which show solidarity and sportsmanship.”

Abstract

Film as a popular communication medium is expected to represent the feelings of its audience in a story or issue raised. As with other gender issues, issues regarding aging and ageism also deserve to be raised in a big story. But in reality, this is very rarely done by local and foreign filmmakers. One of the films that can represent the issue of aging well is the film “The Intern” which illustrates that the process of aging or aging itself is not as scary as what has been constructed by social society. The fear of the aging and aging process makes people look anti to this natural process and even hate it. This behavior gives rise to the ideology of ageism which is able to limit the movement of the elderly group and can be included as training for the elderly group. Positive aging which is an attitude of looking positively at the aging process is considered as a resistance to an attitude of hatred towards the aging process or what can be called ageism.

Abstract

The film Black Panther: Wakanda Forever places women as the main characters in the film. Princess Shuri is described as a tomboyish woman, without make-up, with short hair, and has a brave, strong and intelligent character. This central depiction of a female character shows an alternative side of femininity where women are no longer seen as weak. The unique presentation of female characters in this film attracts the attention of researchers to find out more about the representation of female characters. Not only Shuri's character is the focus of research but other figures such as the Wakandan warrior. In conducting the analysis the researcher uses a qualitative description method with the aim of explaining the results of the study. While the theory used is Roland Barthes' semiotics who wants to know the meaning of denotation, connotation, and signs in films. Through the research that has been carried out, it has resulted in findings that the second Black Panther film makes women the main superhero characters, which have changed the myths of beauty and women in patriarchal culture. Beauty is no longer constructed by meeting standard beauty myths such as white skin color and long hair. Women are also no longer portrayed as following a patriarchal culture where women are the number two figure. Women in this film are described as having the same strength as men so that there is equality in them. In addition, the film Wakanda Forever tends to present masculine dominance in female characters. It can be seen through the depiction of characteristics such as physique, personality and behavior of female characters.

Abstract

Web series are currently one of the best entertainment options for the public. Just like movies, web series also have the ability to imply messages to the audience. One of the best web series that has an implied message in it is Peaky Blinders. The purpose of this research is to find out the characteristic signs of masculine men in 3 characters namely Thomas Shelby, Arthur Shelby, and Alfie Solomons. This study uses a qualitative approach and semiotic analysis by Roland Barthes. Primary data is obtained directly from the Peaky Blinders web series which is watched via the Netflix platform, and secondary data is obtained from other scientific data sources. The results obtained are that in this film, men are depicted as having to think alone, being physically ready and looking muscular, and having to remain calm even when facing life-threatening situations.

Abstract

Aging at this time is still something that is avoided by many people, even though aging will certainly happen to all humans. Aging is often considered a period of decline because many things change, from physical to mental conditions. This also happens in the realm of Hollywood. Actresses over the age of 60 are considered difficult to get interesting roles. The role that can be obtained is only the role of a companion as a wife, mother or grandmother. One of the movies that still uses elderly actresses as the main character is Hello, My Name is Doris, which was released in 2015. This research is a qualitative research using a literature study method. To find out the representation of aging in the film Hello, My Name is Doris, Roland Barthes' semiotic theory is used. The results of this study indicate that aging is not only represented negatively but also positively in the Hello, My Name is Doris.
