Abstract

Extreme rain has a form of tail that the right side of the distribution is longer; it is not suitable for model using normal distribution approach. One of the statistical methods developed related to the analysis of extreme events in which the shape of the data distribution sticks out to the right is the extreme value theory (EVT). Two approaches are often used in extreme value theory: the block maxima (BM) method and the peak over threshold (POT) method. This study aims to compare the alleged extreme rain in Jakarta Province in 1990-2019 with modifications to the maximum value retrieval in BM method and several approaches to selecting threshold values in POT method.  The two methods' comparison results show that the POT method is better at predicting extreme rainfall because it provides a value of root mean square error of prediction (RMSEP) value of 33.52 mm. This value is smaller than the RMSEP of the BM method, which is 47.92 mm.

Abstract

The ability to think creatively is important for students to have in the mathematics learning process. However, the fact is that students still have difficulty creating novelty when given a problem. This research analyzes students' creative thinking abilities regarding high, medium, and low learning independence in mathematics. This research is a quasi-experimental research with a pretest-pottest design. The subjects of this research were 20 grade 12 students at an Ira College Foundation High School in Medan. The research instruments used were mathematical thinking tests, scales, and attitudes about high, medium, and low learning independence. Data was collected using questionnaires, tests, and interviews. This research shows that subjects with high learning independence can fulfill the creative thinking indicators of fluency, micro, and novelty aspects so they are classified as very creative. Subjects with learning independence are meeting the creative thinking indicators, aspects of fluency, and desire to be creative. Meanwhile, subjects with low learning independence only meet the creative thinking indicators for the fluency aspect and are therefore classified as less creative. These findings complement research related to the importance of independent learning in explaining variations in students' creative thinking abilities

Abstract

Social Security Agency for Health (SSAH) Madiun branch office incurred healthcare costs amounting to Rp1.5 trillion in 2023. Seeing the large amount of expenses incurred, it shows that the people of Madiun city largely trust SSAH with their health insurance. In the cost claim process, not all claims are accepted, which is caused by several factors, such as the type of work and medical records. This research will examine the risk and opportunities of utilizing SSAH insurance services in Madiun city. The methods used are Bayesian Logistic Regression and the C4.5 Algorithm. The purpose of this research is to identify the risk factors for utilizing SSAH services in Madiun City and to determine the best methods for classification. This research is expected to assist the SSAH in Madiun City in understanding the risks for SSAH participants in using insurance services and to serve as a reference for other researchers in using the best methods for classification. The research results show that medical history and gender have an influence on the risk of utilizing SSAH services in the city of Madiun. The best method in that classification is the C4.5 Algorithm method with an average accuracy rate of 66.82%.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effect of contextual learning on students' conceptual understanding of mathematics in grade XI. The research employed a quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental method and a non-equivalent control group design. The sample consisted of two groups: an experimental group applying contextual learning and a control group using conventional teaching methods. The results revealed that the data were normally distributed (Shapiro-Wilk test) and homogeneous (Levene's test), making it suitable for further analysis using an independent sample t-test. The posttest mean score of the experimental group (80.47) was significantly higher than the control group (70.81), with a significance value of 0.000 (< 0.05). These findings indicate that contextual learning is more effective in improving students' conceptual understanding of mathematics than conventional methods. Therefore, contextual learning is recommended for broader implementation in mathematics education to enhance the relevance and effectiveness of learning.

Abstract

This research aims to improve the quality of learning, particularly in literacy and numeracy, for students with low abilities. The teaching campus program is designed to provide students with practical experience and opportunities for personal development outside the campus environment. The method used in this research is descriptive qualitative, with subjects consisting of 18 fifth-grade students from SDK Supilape. This study aims to implement the teaching campus program at SDK Supilape. Data collection techniques involved observation, interviews, and documentation, with results from observations being summarized. The implemented work programs include tutoring in mathematics, interactive video screenings, reading corners (literacy trees), math posters, technology adaptation (technology transformation for learning), and socialization to prevent the three major sins of education. The stages of implementation include preparation, observation, planning, and execution. The seventh batch of the teaching campus program has proven effective in improving literacy and numeracy skills among students at Sekolah Dasar Katolik Supilape, as shown by the research findings and discussions. The role of students in assisting peers and partnering with teachers has garnered many positive responses and impacts. Various programs that have been implemented are progressing according to plan, particularly in assisting students in literacy and numeracy, such as the reading corner program and additional numeracy hours, which both teachers and students have received well. The Minimum Competency Assessment (AKM) results show a significant increase in literacy and numeracy skills among fifth-grade students at SDK Supilape. In the pretest, 58% of students were in the sufficient category for literacy, while 41% were in the unfinished category for numeracy. After implementing the work programs, posttest results indicate that 72% of students are now in the good category for literacy, and 60% are in the sufficient category for numeracy. This improvement indicates that the implemented program has enhanced students' understanding of the material, demonstrating the effectiveness of the teaching methods.

Abstract

Education is a key determinant of the quality of human resources in Indonesia. One indicator used to measure educational participation in a region is the Gross Enrolment Ratio (GER). This study focuses on analyzing the influence of the socio-economic conditions of the population and the number students of Universitas Terbuka on the Gross Enrolment Ratio for higher education (GER-HE) in Indonesia. The aim of this research is to analyze the factors that influence the Gross Enrolment Ratio for higher education in several regions. This study uses a quantitative research design with a regression panel data approach. The study area covers all provinces in Indonesia, comprising 34 provinces. The data used in this study is secondary data obtained from the Badan Pusat Statistik (BPS) for the years 2018-2022, including data on GER-HR, poverty indicator, the number of higher education institutions, and expenditure per capita for each province. Additionally, data was sourced from DAAK-UT to obtain the number of Universitas Terbuka students for the years 2018-2022. Based on the results of the Fixed Effect Model (FEM) panel data regression with individual/cross section effects, the factors that influence the GER-HR value are the number of new UT students and per capita expenditure. The number of new UT students has a positive effect while per capita expenditure has a negative effect on GER-HE in Indonesia. Then for variables that have no effect are the number of universities, and per capita expenditure.

Abstract

The agricultural sector has an important role in national economic development in Indonesia. Based on data from the 2023 Agricultural Census from the Central Bureau of Statistics, it was found that the quantity and quality of the agricultural sector in various provinces in Indonesia still varies greatly. Hence, the suitable statistical methods are needed, namely cluster analysis, to group 38 provinces in Indonesia based on similar characteristics in the agricultural sector. Cluster analysis in this research uses the Self-organizing Maps (SOM) method. Before cluster analysis is carried out, Principal Component Analysis (PCA) is carried out to reduce the dimensions of the variables so that the data is easier to process and avoids the curse of dimensionality. The PCA results obtained 2 main components formed from 9 agricultural sector variables, which were then used as input data for clustering analysis with SOM. The results of clustering with SOM showed that the optimal number of provincial groups was 3 with a Davies-Boulden Index (DBI) value of 0.544 and a Silhouette of 0.623. The results of grouping the provinces can then be categorized into cluster 1 with a high average value of agricultural sector variables, cluster 2 with a medium average value of agricultural sector variables, and cluster 3 with a low average value of agricultural sector variables.
