Abstract

This research focuses on videos containing proverty porn or poverty pornography found on social media platforms like YouTube and TikTok. This means that poor people are portrayed in YouTube and TikTok videos as content to be exploited for financial gain. The phenomenon of proverty porn presented on social media, in this context, is related to agents a term Pierre Bourdieu uses for actors as content creators of video content. Therefore, this research utilizes the concepts and theories of memetics, habitus, commodification, and the construction of media reality. The use of memetics and habitus concepts reflects the dialectic that occurs within agents or content creators in creating video content. The dialectic within agents becomes significant when habits (habitus) and memetics (imitation) engage in a dialectical process or have a reciprocal relationship. The results of the study show that repeated habits are also repeated imitations to create video content continuously simply because they can become commodities. All incidents of poverty that occur are constructed as reality in the media.

Abstract

This study analyzes the impact of Covid-19 and Foreign Direct Investment, how this affects the level of employment in Indonesia and captures Indonesia's role in the global economic recovery. This study uses panel data with eight cross sections and a time series from 2017–2021, with the dependent variable the level of employment opportunity and the independent variables are FDI, real GDP, real wages and Covid- 19 as a dummy variable. This study found that the level of employment opportunity had no effect on the Covid-19 period. The independent variables in this study did not significantly affect the level of employment opportunities. This shows that the economic impact caused by a pandemic is different from war, which does not involve the destruction of capital, rather the death rate in the productive segment of the population, and Indonesia is not affected by this. The lack of effect of the pandemic outbreak on job opportunities and FDI shows that Indonesia is part of the Global Value Chain (GVCs) and Indonesia can suppress investor concerns about the outbreak. The next finding is that the growth in the economic sector in the Covid-19 period was not significant, followed by the level of job opportunities in each of these economic sectors.

Abstract

The social media phenomenon has transformed the way humans communicate. Algorithms, inherent in each platform, play a crucial role in shaping the information users receive, often prioritizing content that triggers emotional responses. This study aims to analyze the dynamics of communication in the social media era through the diverse interactions between language, emotion, and algorithms. Using a descriptive narrative literature review approach, this study examines how language evolves on social media, the role of emotion in content virality, and how algorithms reinforce emotional polarization. The results show that language on social media tends to be more concise, visual, and emotionally expressive, with a predominant use of emojis, abbreviations, and hyperbolic style. Emotions, particularly strong ones such as anger or emotion, have been shown to be key drivers of content virality, which are then amplified by algorithms to increase user engagement. This interaction creates a cycle in which algorithms select emotional language, generate viral content, and in turn, encourage users to imitate that communication style, forming a new digital communication culture. The conclusion of this study is that language, emotion, and algorithms mutually reinforce each other in shaping the way digital communication is perceived, with significant implications for digital literacy and communication ethics. Therefore, the development of more ethical and socially conscious algorithms is necessary to create a healthier digital space.

Abstract

This study analyzes how artificial intelligence (AI) adoption transforms news production in Indonesian online media, using the Hierarchy of Influences model by Shoemaker and Reese as the theoretical framework. The research explores how AI does not merely serve as a technical tool but functions as a structural agent influencing media content at the organizational, extramedia, and ideological levels. Using a qualitative-descriptive method based on document analysis, news texts, institutional reports, and regulatory documents from the Indonesian Press Council, the study finds that AI driven automation has reshaped newsroom hierarchies by replacing entry level journalists with algorithmic systems and promoting new roles such as editorial engineers. Additionally, external pressures from platform algorithms, SEO metrics, and audience expectations have significantly shifted editorial logic toward data-driven, market-oriented practices. Ideologically, AI reinforces digital capitalism, privileging speed and virality over journalistic ethics, diversity, and public interest. The study concludes that AI not only changes production techniques but also restructures values within media institutions, highlighting the need for critical regulation, technological literacy, and ethical safeguards in AI-assisted journalism.

Abstract

People who want to express joy, merchants offering their wares, and traditional leaders and community leaders of the Malay people have long utilized pantun in various occasions. This study aims to uncover and describe how the tradition of exchanging pantun is carried out in Malay wedding ceremonies in Denai Kuala Village, Pantai Labu Subdistrict, Deli Serdang Regency. To collect data, the researcher directly visited the field and observed the wedding procession among the Malay community in Pantai Labu Subdistrict. This study employs a qualitative approach with a descriptive nature, using a field study method that involves the researcher's active participation. One of the cultural characteristics of the Malay community, particularly in Denai Kuala Village, Pantai Labu Subdistrict, is the pantun tradition, which is always present in various traditional ceremonies. Pantun has become an integral part of the customs and rituals of the Malay community, especially in wedding ceremonies. One form of preserving this tradition is clearly evident in the hempang pintu ceremony. This ceremony takes place when the groom is escorted to the bride's house. Before the groom's entourage arrives, the bride's family will spread a long piece of cloth as a cover for the house door. The cloth may only be opened after a session of pantun exchange between the two parties, accompanied by the exchange of money as part of the traditional requirements. This tradition continues to be practiced over time and remains preserved to this day in Malay weddings in Denai Kuala Village, demonstrating the strong cultural bonds passed down through generations.
