Abstract

This action research investigates the impact of integrating performance tasks in the Physical Education curriculum for Grade 12 students at Libertad National High School. The study's objective was to determine this approach's effectiveness as a foundation for potential policy enhancements. Using a pre-test and post-test design, students' grades before and after the intervention were analyzed through a t-test to identify significant differences. The results showed a statistically significant improvement in students' grades, highlighting the positive impact of performance-task integration on academic achievement in Physical Education. These findings support the inclusion of task-based assessments within the PE curriculum, indicating that such strategies can enhance student engagement, alleviate stress, and foster critical thinking skills. It is recommended that schools implement performance tasks more broadly in PE and explore the potential for integrating these strategies into other core subjects. By providing targeted teacher training and allocating sufficient resources, schools can effectively incorporate performance tasks across various subjects, enriching the overall educational experience and supporting deeper student learning.

Abstract

This action research explored the effectiveness of a Strategic Reward System (SRS) in reducing student tardiness among Grade 12 students at Libertad National High School. The main objective was to determine whether implementing a structured reward system could significantly decrease instances of tardiness and enhance punctuality. The study employed a pre- and post-observation design, collecting data from student attendance records before and after the implementation of a lottery-based SRS. The intervention provided tangible incentives for on-time attendance, and the results were analyzed using a Mean Percentage Score and a T-test to assess the significance of changes in student behavior. The findings revealed a notable reduction in student tardiness, with statistical analysis confirming a significant difference between pre-and post-intervention data. The results align with existing literature on the positive impact of reward-based strategies in educational settings. It is suggested that schools adopt a structured reward system as part of their behavior management policy to foster a culture of punctuality and enhance student engagement. Future research should expand on these findings by exploring the application of reward systems across diverse educational contexts and incorporating gamified elements to sustain student motivation.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the reading comprehension levels of Class VIII students in descriptive texts at SMP Negeri 7 Medan. Reading is a fundamental skill for language learners, especially for students learning English as a foreign language. However, many students face difficulties in comprehending descriptive texts, such as identifying key details, understanding the structure, and drawing accurate conclusions. These challenges are attributed to limited vocabulary, lack of familiarity with descriptive text conventions, and ineffective reading strategies. This research will evaluate students' comprehension levels and the effectiveness of current teaching strategies and materials. The findings are expected to provide insights that contribute to the improvement of reading instruction and strategies, benefiting both students and educators, and enhancing literacy education in junior high schools across Indonesia.

Abstract

Body weight and blood pressure are two vital health indicators that are closely related. Excessive body weight or obesity, in particular, has been strongly associated with higher blood pressure, a key risk factor for cardiovascular diseases. Blood pressure, which measures the force of blood against the walls of blood vessels, is influenced by several factors, including body composition, physical activity, and diet. For young adults, maintaining a healthy weight is especially important, as early high blood pressure can result in long-term health issues. Recognizing the connection between body weight and blood pressure in this group is crucial for developing preventive measures against hypertension. This study examines the relationship between body weight and blood pressure among university students at the Universiti Teknologi MARA Pahang Branch Jengka Campus. A sample of 43 students, aged 18 to 22, from various faculties was selected for analysis. Descriptive statistics and Spearman rank correlation were used to investigate the association between body weight and blood pressure (systolic and diastolic). The results showed a statistically significant positive linear correlation, indicating that as body weight increases, both systolic and diastolic blood pressure also rise. These findings are consistent with previous research highlighting a strong linear correlation between body mass and blood pressure. The study underscores the importance of maintaining a healthy weight to reduce the risk of hypertension, particularly in young adults. Future research should explore additional factors affecting blood pressure and assess the effectiveness of weight management strategies in similar populations.
