Abstract

Suicide is a serious problem that affects many individuals worldwide. Poor mental health often serves as a major risk factor in suicide cases. In suicide prevention efforts, mental health plays a crucial role that needs to be addressed. This study aims to examine the role of mental health as a preventive factor in suicide cases from the perspective of pastoral counseling. In this research, the pastoral counseling approach is used as a framework to analyze how preventive efforts in the field of mental health can be carried out through pastoral guidance and support. This approach acknowledges the complexity of individuals as beings with physical, emotional, social, and spiritual dimensions. In pastoral counseling, it is important to understand and appreciate the diversity of individuals and provide a safe, supportive, and non-judgmental environment. Through the pastoral counseling approach, suicide prevention efforts can involve education and awareness about mental health, the development of adaptive coping skills, the provision of emotional support, and the fostering of trusting relationships between counselors and clients. Pastoral counselors can also assist individuals in identifying and addressing risk factors associated with poor mental health, as well as providing effective strategies for managing stress and improving quality of life. The results of this study indicate that good mental health is a preventive key in suicide cases. Within the framework of pastoral counseling, suicide prevention efforts can be conducted by considering mental health aspects holistically and integrating theological and counseling understandings. This research contributes significantly to strengthening the role of pastoral counseling in suicide prevention and promoting awareness of the importance of maintaining comprehensive mental health.

Abstract

Mental disorders are a serious problem in this world, because mental disorders can prevent someone who experiences them from carrying out actions in social society. Even though there is modern understanding and treatment of mental disorders, there are still many people and even Christians who associate mental disorders with possession by evil spirits. This can trigger stigma towards people suffering from mental disorders and hinder their access to appropriate medical care. Article 3 of the Republic of Indonesia Constitution Number 18 of 2014 reads "providing health services in an integrated, comprehensive and sustainable manner through promotive, proven, curative and rehabilitative for ODMK and ODGJ”. Therefore, this research aims to answer the stigma circulating in society regarding people with mental disorders caused by evil spirits. The problem formulation of this research is what factors cause mental disorders in patients at the Villa Recovery Foundation. To answer the research problem, the researcher used a qualitative descriptive method, using interview techniques and library research in data collection. The results obtained from this research show that the factors that cause mental disorder patients at the Pelita Recovery Villa Foundation are not always caused by the public stigma about mental disorders being caused by evil spirits, but rather there are other factors.

Abstract

The term "sandwich generation" refers to a group of individuals who find themselves in a situation where they face simultaneous demands to care for their elderly parents and their dependent children, both physically and financially. The sandwich generation is closely linked to caregiving. It's not just about parenting their children; there are also caregiving demands coming from their parents. This dual role and responsibility often present various challenges, leading to negative impacts financially, physically, emotionally, and even psychologically. As the dynamics of these complex roles increase and the risk of experiencing stress due to caregiving responsibilities rises, individuals are likely to have lower psychological well-being. The higher the level of stress experienced by the sandwich generation, the lower their psychological well-being tends to be. In this context, an approach that can be taken is to provide pastoral counseling services to address cases of low psychological well-being among mothers in the sandwich generation, impacting their mental health. Counseling is an effort used to resolve problems, a process where a counselor provides assistance or guidance to the individual (counselee) through psychological approaches, direction, or education, with the hope that the individual can understand their own abilities to resolve various issues.

Abstract

Liturgy, often thought of as simply the manner of worship, actually has a broader meaning. From the Greek, liturgy comes from "leiturgia," which includes the meaning of serving and working for the community. Initially, liturgy had political and profane connotations, only to develop into a cultic aspect in the second century AD. In the cultic context, liturgy is defined as a worship service that involves the active participation of the people. Rasid Rachman emphasized that liturgy also includes daily worship practices and reflects the belief and communion of the people with God. The importance of liturgy in the church lies in its role in animating belief and shining the love of Christ. Liturgy is at the core of the church, enabling interaction between the people and God, as well as the renewal of God's covenant with His people. Every element of the liturgy, from ordination to blessing, carries deep pastoral meaning. However, challenges arise when different generations feel incompatible with existing forms of worship. Therefore, contextualization of liturgy is important, following the changing times and understanding the needs of the congregation. In developing a living liturgy, it is important to note that liturgy is not a performance, but rather a worship that involves all the people. The pastoral aspect of liturgy emerges when people unite in worship, creating a unique space where God's grace can operate. Contextualization of liturgy, as outlined by Rasid Rachman, involves adjusting to the necessary context, including in the increasingly advanced times. This study uses the library research method to understand the meaning of liturgy as a pastoral effort. Data were obtained through literature study and grouped by theme and then processed using content analysis method. The results of the discussion include the meaning of liturgy, pastoral functions, and the importance of contextualizing liturgy in conveying religious messages with relevance in everyday life.

Abstract

This paper describes a virtual pastoral theology that is indispensable, especially in the atmosphere of the COVID-19 pandemic. This paper uses a qualitative method with a literature study approach to take advantage of the sharing of related journals and books. The COVID-19 pandemic has forced congregation members to change their normal lifestyle to a new (virtual) era. Virtual pastoral is a relevant answer to the problems of pastoral care today. Virtual pastoral can be done by phone, facebook, video call, instagram, zoom app, google meet and so on. we need to understand that whatever pastoral/pastoral method is used should not shift the focus from shepherding itself, namely God. Virtual pastoral is a relevant answer to the problems of pastoral care today. Although using a different (virtual) method, it does not eliminate the substance of pastoral care itself. The presence of virtual pastoralists has been positively welcomed by the congregation, especially during this pandemic.

Abstract

Pastoral assistance and counseling services are provided for those who are in a weak situation and condition, both physically, psychologically, socially and spiritually, as is done for palliative cancer patients. The aim is for cancer palliative patients to be able to face and overcome the pain they are experiencing with inner calm. However, reality shows that patient families also need pastoral care and counseling services, because patient families also experience a weak situation when a member of their family experiences cancer. One of the impacts experienced by the patient's family is that they experience deep sadness. If pastoral care and counseling services are not immediately provided, the patient's family will experience deterioration both psychologically, sociologically and even spiritually. Even though on the one hand, the patient's family is the caregiver for cancer patients, on the other hand, the patient's family also needs support and support from other parties so that the cancer patient and the patient's family together can face this condition. So pastoral care and counseling services are not only an important need for cancer palliative patients but also an important need for the patient's family. This article aims to explain the importance of pastoral care and counseling services for palliative cancer patients and their families. The author will use Jocob Daan Engel's Indonesian theory of mentoring and counseling and Howard Clinebell's theory of pastoral counseling and community counseling. The descriptive qualitative method was used by the author to explain the social psychological conditions of cancer palliative patients and the pastoral care and counseling that is really needed by cancer palliative patients and the patient's families at Church X. Data collection techniques were carried out using observation, interviews and documentation.

Abstract

The background of this research is the concept of child-friendly service applied by the Lord Jesus in the Gospel of Luke 18:15-17. Until now, there are still many churches that have not implemented the concept of child-friendly ministry as applied by Jesus, which can be seen from the placement of children's ministry as a secondary (second) ministry. This form of service is clearly not a child-friendly service. Especially if it is noticed that children's service facilities are often not the same as service facilities for adults, the preparation of children's services is not well prepared so that Sunday school teacher servants only teach to meet the Sunday schedule. This is disproportionate to service to more well-prepared adults. By using a qualitative method, especially through a textual exegesis approach, this article will examine Luke 18:15-17 in order to examine the text more deeply. The results of the exegesis show what Luke means about the concept of child-friendly ministry, which is to bring children to Jesus so that they can receive touch (blessings and prayers) from Jesus and receive children with sincere love. This is the main task of the church in developing child-friendly services
