Abstract

ABSTRACTThis review aims at compiling and summarizing findings of published studies that assessed factors associated with compliance of women to take recommended iron tablets during pregnancy. The review is done in 10 published studies (8 are 2002—2010 publications and 2 are 1993—1994 publications) indexed in Pubmed with the above objective. Low utilization of antenatal care/ANC services is found to be associated with low compliance as it prevents the women to receive recommended number of the iron tablets as well as decrease the opportunity of women to have encouragement from health staff to take the tablets. Supply of tablets becomes the issue since not all women receiving 30 tablets/ANC visits as recommended. Studies on influence of side-effects of taking the tablets to compliance show inconclusive findings. Some studies found the effect is very minimal, and can be managed appropriately especially among more educated women and among women with adequate counseling. Studies also indicated that support from family is important to reduce possibility of pregnant women forgot to take the tablets, the other major factor of the low compliance. Quality of counseling, e.g. clarity of the messages, is associated with compliance. In conclusion, improving support from ANC provider (such as sufficient tablet supply, clear message on the tablets benefits) and support from family may contribute to better compliance of women towards maternal iron supplementation.Keywords: compliance, iron supplementation, pregnancyABSTRAKReview ini bertujuan mengumpulkan temuan studi yang mengukur faktor yang berhubungan dengan kepatuhan ibu dalam mengonsumsi tablet besi selama kehamilan. Review dilakukan pada 10 studi (8 publikasi tahun 2002—2010, 2 publikasi tahun 1993—1994) yang terdaftar di Pubmed. Rendahnya partisipasi ibu hamil untuk memeriksakan kehamilannya/ANC berhubungan dengan rendahnya kepatuhan konsumsi tablet besi. Rendahnya kunjungan ANC membuat ibu tidak mendapat tablet dengan jumlah yang cukup dan mengurangi kesempatan ibu untuk mendapat dukungan dari petugas ANC untuk minum tablet besi sesuai anjuran. Suplai tablet juga menjadi penting karena tidak semua ibu mendapat 30 tablet pada setiap kunjungan ANC seperti seharusnya. Pengaruh efek samping konsumsi tablet besi terhadap kepatuhan ibu belum dapat disimpulkan. Pengaruh efek samping ditemukan sangat kecil dan dapat diatasi dengan baik terutama pada ibu dengan pendidikan yang lebih tinggi atau yang mendapat penyuluhan yang cukup. Studi juga menemukan bahwa dukungan keluarga sangat penting untuk membantu mengingatkan ibu untuk mengonsumsi tablet besi. Hal ini menjadi penting karena salah satu faktor utama rendahnya kepatuhan ibu adalah karena ibu lupa mengonsumsi tablet tersebut. Kualitas penyuluhan, misalnya kejelasan pesan dari petugas kesehatan, berhubungan dengan kepatuhan ibu. Sebagai kesimpulan, dukungan yang lebih baik pada ibu, baik dari petugas ANC (misalnya pemberian tablet besi dalam jumlah yang cukup, kejelasan pesan tentang manfaat tablet) maupun keluarga dapat berkontribusi pada kepatuhan yang lebih baik pada ibu hamil dalam mengonsumsi tablet besi.Kata kunci: kehamilan, kepatuhan, suplementasi tablet besi

Abstract

The objective of study was to assess the diet quality and its relation to nutrition knowledge, body mass index (BMI), and socio economic status (SES) among adults person. The cross sectional study was conducted with 100 adults aged ≥25 years old from Kedung Kandang sub district, Malang. Dietary quality was assessed using two non-consecutive 24-h dietary recalls and semi quantitative FFQ. Nutrition knowledge questionnaire was modified from Parmenter and Wardle. The most subjects were middle SES and the BMI were normal and overweight. The average of diet quality score was 7.14±1.96 with dietary diversity score 1.93±0.43; micronutrient adequacy score 2.3±1.4; prevention NCD score 2.87±0.92. Nutrition knowledge score was 43.3±24.6 with dietary recommendation 9.3±3.6; sources of nutrients 14±11.5; choosing foods 6.3±4.9; diet-disease relationships 13.7±8.6. Nutrition knowledge score was no correlation with BMI, dietary diversity, prevention NCD score, but positively associated with SES, quality diet, micronutrient adequacy score. SES was no associated with BMI and quality diet index. Dietary diversity score was associated with BMI. Diet quality score was associated with nutrition knowledge but no correlation with BMI and SES. The conclusion is diet quality and nutrition knowledge was still poor and not correlated with BMI and SES, but only nutrition knowledge score.

Abstract

Ipong-Ipong (Fasciolaria salmo) snail is a mollusk from marine gastropod class in Cirebon, West Java which is consumed by public and believed to improve health, but no research on the protein and amino acid content. This study aimed to determine the proximate content, acid insoluble ash, amino acids (before and after treatment), and content of taurine on the best methods. The research was conducted in two parts. The first part covers sampling, identification, preparation, determination of size and weight, calculation of body recovery, processing, and organoleptic tests. The second part consists of processing treatments boiling (100ºC for 15 minutes), steaming (100ºC for 20 minutes), and boiling with the addition of 3% salt for 15 minutes. The results showed that the treatment gives a significant effect in fat, protein, water, ash and acid insoluble ash content (α=0.05). The highest content of essential amino acids in Ipong-ipong snail was arginine and non-essential amino acid was glutamic. The treatment method causes decreased in amino acid content. Steaming resulted in a decrease of taurine content of 164.17 mg/100 g to 149.62 mg/100 g.

Abstract

The objective of this research were to analyze the effect of snack feeding, nutrition education, and iron supplementation to nutritional status, nutrition knowledge, and anemia status in elementary school students. The study was conducted in SDN Palasari 02 Kecamatan Cijeruk, Kabupaten Bogor, Jawa Barat. The design of this study was pre-post intervention study. The number of subjects were 81 students. The result showed that snacking did not give significant improvement on nutritional status (p>0.05). Nutrition education was significant in improving nutrition knowledge (p<0.05), while iron supplementation intake gave a significant improvement on anemia status (p<0.05).Keywords:

Abstract

The objective of the study was to analyze the differences of applying educational media to change mother’s knowledge and attitude on the breakfast of the elementary school children in Bogor District. The study was a quasy experimental study. Subjects in this research were 225 mothers of elementary school children in the nine villages in Bogor District. Nutrition education media used for this study were power point slides, flip charts, and combination of the power point slides and leaflets. Score of knowledge and attitude on breakfast increased significantly after the intervention. ANOVA analysis results on knowledge and attitude on the breakfast showed better improvement for the combination of power point slides and leaflets. The proportion of knowledge and attitude of the mothers increased after the intervention. The combination of the power point slides and leaflets was the type of educational media which could increase the rate of mother’s knowledge and attitude score compared to power point slides and flip chart.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to analyze the effect of a healthy breakfast campaign on the changes in knowledge, attitudes, and breakfast habits among elementary school children in Bogor District. A quasy experimental study was applied to this study. Subjects in this study were 229 elementary school children in the nine villages in Bogor District. Nutrition education media used in this study were power point, puppets, picture cards, and drama. The school childrens knowledge and attitude showed that there was a significant difference between media intervention of power point, puppet, and drama to picture cards. The highest scores of knowledge (73.23±1.14) and attitude (91.84±1.09) was in picture cards. The percentage of subjects having a habit of breakfast before intervention was 78.2% and increased to 81.7% after intervention. Media intervention by picture cards gave highest change to increased breakfast knowledge, attitude, and habits for elementary school children.

Abstract

This study aimed to analyze association between intake of vitamin A with breast milk production of postpartum mothers. A cross sectional study of 30 postpartum mothers was conducted in Ciherang, Sukawening, Dramaga, Sinarsari, and Neglasari Villages, Subdistrict of Dramaga, District of Bogor, during April to May 2013. Vitamin A intake of postpartum mothers from food source of vitamin A was 565±351.40 RE while sufficiency level of vitamin A was 66.50±41.30%. Most of postpartum mothers perceived that their breast milk production for infants were fulfilled (80%). The results showed that vitamin A intake was significantly associated with breast milk production (p<0.05). As intake of vitamin A in postpartum mothers increased, breast milk production for infants would be fulfilled.

Abstract

The objective of this research was to analyze correlation between vitamin A supplementation among postpartum mothers and the morbidity of infant 0—6 month in Ciampea Sub-district. A cross sectional study of 56 subjects was conducted. The data collected in this study were breastfeeding practices, vitamin A supplementation, immunization and morbidity. The results showed that infants 0—6 months suffered from acute respiratory infection (ARI) 66.1%, fever (25.0%), diarrhea (14.3%), skin disease (7.1%), hepatitis B (3.6%), dengue fever (1.8%), and sprue (1.8%). There were a correlation between immunization and frequency/duration of hepatitis B; between the number of taking vitamin A supplement and incident of diseases as well as complementary feeding; complete immunization and duration of all illness (p<0.05). The logistic regression analysis showed that there were significant effects of complete immunization with duration of all illness (OR=0.110; 95%CI:0.013—0.940), and between number of taking vitamin A supplement with incident of diseases (OR=0.103; 95%CI:0.015—0.715).Keywords:

Abstract

The objective of this study was to analyze relationship between food consumption and physical activity with incidence of osteoporosis in elderly at nursing home in Bogor. The design of this study was cross sectional. Subjects were taken purposively with certain criteria and the number of subjects obtained were 37 elderly. Results showed that the adequacy level of energy and protein were normal, phosphor was in adequate category and calcium was in deficient category. There was no significant relationship between nutritional status, the adequacy level of energy, protein and phosphor with risk of osteoporosis (p>0.05). However, there was a significant relationship between the adequacy level of calcium and physical activity level with risk of osteoporosis (p<0.05). The deficit adequacy level of calcium and physical activity was a risk factor for the risk of osteoporosis.

Abstract

The objective of this study were to analyze the patterns of food consumption, physical activity, history of disease, family history of dementia, and incidence of dementia in elderly in Werdha Tresna, nursing home, Bogor. Research design was cross sectional study with 42 elderly as subjects. The results showed that there were significant correlation between the level of education, adequacy of level vitamin A, vitamin B1, vitamin B2, vitamin B6, vitamin C, history of diabetes and physical activity with incidence of dementia in elderly (p<0.05). There were no significant correlation between age, adequacy of level folic acid, history of hypertension, and family history of dementia with incidence of dementia in elderly (p>0.05).
