Abstract

Problem statement of this research was whether there is a significant effect of vocabulary mastery on students writing skills in descriptive text of eight grade students at SMP Negeri 4 Baubau. Objective of this research was to find out whether there is a significant effect of vocabulary mastery on students' writing skills in descriptive text of eight grade at SMP Negeri 4 Baubau. Data collection in this study was carried out using a research instrument in the form of a test to students to determine the correlation between students' vocabulary mastery on students' writing skills in descriptive text. This research is a quantitative research. The subjects of this study were 55 grade eight students of SMP Negeri 4 Baubau. Data were analyzed using Statistical Product and Service Solution (SPSS) version 21.0. Based on the results of research and data analysis, it was concluded that there was a correlation between vocabulary mastery on students' writing skills in descriptive text of eight grade at SMP Negeri 4 Baubau. This conclusion is based on the results of statistical analysis which found a significance level of 0.939 with an r table value of 0.266. The rxy value is greater than the r table value (0.939> 0.266) and the significance value is less than (0.5) or in other words the Null hypothesis (HO) is rejected and the alternative hypothesis (H1) is accepted.

Abstract

The objective of this research was to find out the impact of fix up strategy to improve reading comprehension on the junior high school setting .This research used quantitative method with quasi-experimental design. The population of this research was all of the seventh-grade students of SMP Negeri 1 Batauga in academic year of 2023/2024. The population consists of 3 classes; VII A, VII B, and VII C. Based on the data obtained from the school, the total population was 89 students. In this study, the researcher used random sampling technique. The sample of this research was (VII A and VII C) two class, there were 30 students as sample. The instrument of this research used multiple choice. The data analyzed by using descriptive statistics analysis. Based on findings in this research, the used fix up strategy to students at SMP Negeri 1 Batauga was in category which was proven by the value of pretest in experimental class which mean score was 43.30 and control class mean score was 37.60. Meanwhile the post-test mean score of experimental class was 71.83 and control class was 57.93. It was obtained that t-count was 5.695 and the t-table 2.010 for alpa (α) 0.05. The t-count was higher than t-table. So that, fix up strategy method effective in improving reading comprehension on descriptive text at SMP Negeri 1 Batauga in academic year 2023/2024.

Abstract

Problem statement of this research was whether there was a significant effect of the use Mistake Buster Technique on students’ interest in learning English structure in second semester at English students of Dayanu Ikhsanuddin University. Objective of the research was to find out the effect of Mistake Buster Technique on students' interest in learning English structure in second semester at English students of Dayanu Ikhsanuddin University. The research used a quantitative approach with the pre-experimental method. The population was the second semester at English students of Dayanu Ikhsanuddin University consist of 30 students. The sample was 30 students and was taken used the total sampling technique. The research found the mean score of pre-questionnaire was 73.53 and mean score of post-questionnaire was 82.20. And also the result p-value (sig.(2-tailed)) was 0.001 < 0.05, and t-test was 10.44. It was concluded that there was a significant effect of the use Mistake Buster Technique on students’ interest in Learning English structure at English students of Dayanu Ikhsanuddin University.

Abstract

The formulation of the problem in this research is whether there is a significant relationship between students' reading anxiety and reading comprehension at SMAN 3 Baubau. The aim of the research is to find out whether there is a significant relationship between reading anxiety and reading comprehension at SMAN 3 Baubau. This research is quantitative research. The population in this study was all class XI, totaling 95 students. The sample was taken using a side random technique, totaling 30 students, consisting of 3 classes, namely class XI Merdeka 1, XI Merdeka 2, XI Merdeka 3. Data collection in this research was carried out using research instruments in the form of questionnaires and tests, to determine the effect of reading anxiety on reading comprehension in the use of English. The data obtained was analyzed using descriptive statistical analysis, prerequisite analysis, and inferential statistical analysis. Based on the research results, it was concluded that there was no significant relationship between reading anxiety and reading comprehension. This conclusion is based on statistical analysis. Because Fcount is 0.307 with a significance value of 0.584, Fcount is lower than Ftable and the significance value is greater than (0.05). This means that the hypothesis H0 is accepted and the alternative hypothesis is rejected.

Abstract

The Problem statement of this research was what factors affecting the English reading anxiety for class XI.I students of SMA Negeri 4 Pasarwajo. The purpose of this study was to identify the factors that influence the reading anxiety of class XI.I students of SMA Negeri 4 Pasarwajo. This research used the qualitative research design. The subject of this research was student class XI.I SMA Negeri 4 Pasarwajo year 2022/2023. The data was obtained by observation and interview then was analyzed by the researcher with three steps: data reduction, data display, and draw conclusion or verification. This research found that there were three factors that affected the reading anxiety students’ class XI.I SMA Negeri 4 Pasarwajo. Those were hard to Understand Text, fear of making mistakes, lack of confidence.

Abstract

Problem statement of this research was wheter the english teacher for class XI at SMKN 1 Baubau was professional according to the competence standar of the teaching professional. To find out the teacher’s professional in teaching english language learning. This research used a mix method, namely a combination of qualitative and quanitative methods. Instrumens used were interview and questionnaire. The data analysis tecnique used in this research, in analyzing the research of interview data using data reduction and analyzing the research questionnaire was carried out in several steps, namely using Microsoft Exel 2019, descriptive with SPSS version 26.0. analysis of research data interview showed that the XI class english teachers had implemented professional competence and research data form questionnaire, the english teachers for class XI was alredy professional met teachers qualifications teachers competence standars adapted from the Regulation of the Minister of National Education of the Republic of Indonesia No.16 of 2007.

Abstract

The problem of statement in this research was what are the factors that influence English students speaking ability at the ten grade of Man 1 Baubau. Objective of this research was to find out factors that influence English students speaking ability at the ten grade of Man 1 Baubau. This researcher used qualitative descriptive method. Subject of this researcher was one English teacher and four students of class X 2. This researcher instrument was obsevation, interview and documentation. The results of this researcher indicated the factors that influence English students speaking ability at the ten grade of Man 1 Baubau were: 1) internal factors such as low vocabulary mastery, low grammar understanding, low self confidence, shame and nervousness; 2) external factors such as school environment.

Abstract

The integration of digital resources in language learning has become increasingly significant, especially with the advent of various multimedia tools. Among these, English podcasts have emerged as a valuable resource for enhancing students’ communication skills, particularly in Indonesian EFL classroom. Despite the widespread use of digital tools in language learning, there is still limited research on the integration of English podcasts to improve English department students’ speaking skills at an Indonesian university context. This study aims to investigate the students’ perceptions as well as their awareness of the drawbacks of podcasts on their English speaking skills development. Using the semi-structured interview, data were collected from 36 students who were enrolled in English education undergraduate programs at the private university in southeast Sulawesi province, Indonesia. Findings of this research were classified into three categories that are integration of podcast in EFL speaking classroom, benefits of podcasts, and drawbacks of podcasts. Students expressed positive attitudes towards the integration of podcasts into their English speaking learning routine, highlighting the role of presentation, accessibility, content quality, flexibility, and engagement. However, challenges such as the need for guidance, support, and boredom in using these digital tools were also identified. These findings provide significant insights for educational policies and language teaching practices, emphasizing the potential integration of podcasts as a supplementary tool to improve learners English speaking skills in EFL contexts.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of writing anxiety on writing ability among fourth semester students of English Education Study Program of Dayanu Ikhsanuddin University. This study uses a quantitative approach by applying the ex-post facto method of comparative causal design. The population of this study were all fourth semester students of English Education Study Program which amounted to 120 people. The sample of this research was 31 students who were selected using cluster random sampling technique. The research instruments were questionnaires and tests. The results obtained an R value of 0.060 which is classified as a low category. This means that there is a positive and very low relationship between writing anxiety and writing ability. Thus, based on the research findings and data analysis, it can be concluded that there is no significant influence between speaking anxiety and writing ability at Dayanu Ikhsanuddin University.

Abstract

The objective of this research was to analyse the English teacher basic teaching skill at SMP Negeri 8 Buton regency. The significance of the research were provide information and additional insight within basic teaching skills and how they are applied in teaching English, give additional knowledge and experience in the implementation of teaching skills in teaching. The subject was the English teacher who have good basic teaching skills in teaching so get it the researcher selected senior English teacher at SMP Negeri 8 Buton regency. This research applied a qualitative research. so human instrument as the key instrument. It means that the researcher himself as the key instrument in this research. In colecting the data, the researcher applied the observation and interview. Participant observation and semi-structure interview were used in collecting the data about teaching skills of English teacher. The data kualitatif analysed by using data reduction, data display and drawing conclusions or verification. The result of the research showed that there were two basic teaching skills observed and interviewd that were opening the lesson and closing the lesson. In opening the lesson, skills were observed and interviewed were skills on attract the studdents’ attention, enhance the students’ motivation, Provide a reference in starting learning activities and skills on creating links between activities. Meanwhile in closing the lesson the skills were observed and interviewed were skills on reviewing the learning that has been done, skills on learning Evaluation and skills on providing students’ psychological or social encouragement.
