Abstract

The issue of non-degradable plastic waste has become a major concern, encouraging the development of environmentally friendly bioplastics based on natural materials. This study aims to synthesize and characterize chitosan derived from green mussel shells and apply it in the production of corn starch-based bioplastics, as well as to analyze the effect of chitosan addition on mechanical properties and water absorption. The method includes chitosan isolation through demineralization, deproteinization, and deacetylation, followed by bioplastic synthesis using the blending method. Characterization was carried out through organoleptic testing, yield calculation, ninhydrin test, biodegradability test, and water absorption test. The results show that the produced chitosan has good quality with a yield of 66.905% and a positive response to the ninhydrin test. The resulting bioplastic exhibits high biodegradability, indicated by significant degradation within two days. The addition of chitosan enhances structural strength and biodegradability but also increases water absorption and reduces flexibility. Overall, chitosan plays an important role in improving bioplastic performance, although composition optimization is required to achieve balanced material properties

Abstract

The background of this research is the visual landing aid, specifically the runway edge lights, which have experienced an elevation decrease due to repeated overlay work and soil contour conditions. This phenomenon causes the light positions to not meet the ideal elevation thresholds, potentially affecting the effectiveness of visual guidance for pilots during flight operations. The purpose of this research is to produce a technical reinstatement design for the runway lights in accordance with aviation regulations. A Research and Development method was employed through field observations and elevation measurements. The discussion of this research includes an analysis of existing conditions, which serves as the foundation for designing light base height adjustments. The technical design is presented in the Detail Engineering Design (DED) and Bill Off Quantities (BOQ), covering all work aspects, from electrical installation procurement and the calculation of 12,535 meters of FL2XCY primary cable to civil works involving 2,008 m3 of soil excavation, as well as technical specifications for transformer pit construction and runway edge light base reconstruction. The conclusion of this research indicates that reinstatement is essential to restore the optimal function of the lights. The implementation of this design can improve sustainable flight operational safety at Fransiskus Xaverius Seda Maumere Airport.

Abstract

Weeds are undesirable plants that can reduce the productivity of cultivated crops; therefore, effective control measures are required. This study aimed to analyze the effect of Dendrocalamus asper leaf extract as a bioherbicide on the growth of nutgrass (Cyperus rotundus L.), as well as to evaluate the effect of different extract concentrations under field conditions. The experiment was arranged using a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with five levels of bamboo leaf extract concentrations: 0 g/mL, 0.17 g/mL, 0.42 g/mL, 0.81 g/mL, and 1.5 g/mL. The observed data were analyzed using Analysis of Variance (ANOVA), followed by the Least Significant Difference (LSD) test when significant differences were detected. The results showed that the application of D. asper leaf extract inhibited the growth of C. rotundus in terms of plant height, leaf number, stem diameter, and root length. The lowest inhibition was observed at a concentration of 0.42 g/mL, while the highest inhibition occurred at 1.5 g/mL. Similarly, for fresh and dry weight parameters, the extract demonstrated inhibitory effects on weed growth. The lowest inhibition was found at 0.17 g/mL, whereas the highest inhibition was consistently observed at 1.5 g/mL. These findings indicate that the application of D. asper leaf extract contributes to a reduction in the water content of C. rotundus, suggesting its potential as a natural bioherbicide.

Abstract

Maintenance of airport electronic equipment is a critical aspect in ensuring flight safety, security, and operational continuity. However, the recording and reporting of electronic equipment maintenance activities at the Douw Aturure Nabire Class II Airport Management Unit (UPBU) are still conducted manually using physical logbooks. This condition leads to several issues, including the risk of data loss, difficulties in tracing maintenance history, and limited technical supervision. This study aims to design and implement a web-based E-Maintenance system for airport electronic equipment integrated with Quick Response (QR) Code technology to improve the efficiency and reliability of maintenance record management. The system development method applied in this study is Agile Software Development using the Feature Driven Development (FDD) approach. The developed system supports maintenance data entry by technicians, equipment identification through QR Code scanning, technical validation of maintenance reports by supervisors, and digital generation of maintenance reports. The results of system testing using the Black Box Testing method indicate that all system functionalities operate according to user requirements and system design specifications.Based on these results, it can be concluded that the developed E-Maintenance system is capable of improving the efficiency of maintenance data recording and management, facilitating maintenance history tracking, and enhancing data reliability through a structured technical validation mechanism
