Abstract

The level of achievement of students at State Senior High School (SMAN) 1 Putussibau in the material of the mole concept only reached 20%, and this figure cannot even depict the true potential of students in understanding the mole concept due to indications of cheating in every monotonous evaluation. DOMIA (Chemical Domino) was developed to address the problem of a lack of variation in evaluations while also reducing the incidence of student cheating in the evaluation process. DOMIA was developed with the R&D principle using the ADDIE model, and each process will be revised according to needs and field findings. The development of DOMIA took place after the needs analysis process through direct interviews with subject teachers and several randomly selected students. The developed DOMIA was then validated to test the level of feasibility and reliability based on Guilford indicators as a reference in assessment. DOMIA has Kr = 0.97 and Ks = 0.947, indicating that DOMIA is highly valid and very reliable, making it ready for implementation and serving as a new evaluation tool that has not existed in the chemistry subject before.

Abstract

The development of bioplastic films is one of the efforts to reduce plastic waste. The polymer used as the basic material for making bioplastic films is starch. Potato peel waste can be repurposed by extracting its starch content. This research has the purpose to investigate the influence of adding glycerol and spirulina on the characteristics of bioplastic films made from potato peel starch, and to ascertain the optimum composition of raw materials. Bioplastics were produced by casting method from potato peel starch with variations of glycerol and spirulina. The bioplastic composition in this research includes K0 (0 ml glycerol and 0 grams spirulina), K1 (2.5 ml glycerol and 0.3 grams spirulina), K2 (1.25 ml glycerol and 0.3 grams spirulina), K3 (2.5 ml glycerol and 0.15 grams spirulina), and K4 (1.25 ml glycerol and 0.15 grams spirulina). The characteristics of bioplastic films include thickness testing, tensile strength, elongation at break, and degradation. The results from the characterization of bioplastic films indicate that the addition of glycerol and spirulina is inversely proportional to the tensile strength produced, meaning it decreases. However, the addition of glycerol and spirulina is directly proportional to the percentage of elongation produced, meaning it increases. The addition of spirulina has an impact on the degradation time of bioplastic films. The optimal raw material ratio in this research is found in sample K4, with a tensile strength value of 23.038 MPa, elongation at break of 4.385%, thickness of 0.1367 mm, and complete degradation occurring on the sixth day.

Abstract

The aim of this research is to create integrated augmented reality learning media in the form of an application that focuses on the acid base material in the F phase or senior high school phase. Along with the development of the world of education, various kinds of new learning media have emerged. One of the interesting technologies that can currently be developed on Android is Augmented Reality (AR). Augmented Reality is considered one of the most advanced technologies in virtual reality research and is effective as a learning medium, especially chemistry. Augemented Reality is a technology that combines the real world with a computer-generated virtual world so that the boundaries between the two worlds are very minimal. Because of its advantages, AR can be used to create learning applications that can support the teaching and learning process. One lesson that can utilize this technology is chemistry learning about acids and bases. This application was created with Blender 3D software to create 3D acid base objects, Easy AR and Unity 3D to build applications. This media design was adopted by the Plomp development media. Where the design of this media is in accordance with the needs of schools which expect learning media to contain animation and be guided by questions that can guide students in discovering concepts. It is hoped that this learning application can be used at school and outside school as a support in learning chemistry, especially acids and bases.

Abstract

The use of synthetic dyes as color enhancers or generators has caused various environmental and health problems. Plant tannin biomordants offer an alternative solution to address these issues. The sample used in this study were Cengkodok (M. malabathricum) plants that grow wild in places that get enough sunlight such as shrubs. Phytochemical screening on various parts of the cengkodok plant revealed that the highest tannin content is found in the leaf. However, until now there has been no scientific evidence that presents differences in tannin levels in cengkodok leaf with various types of solvents. This study aims to determine the yield and total tannin content of cengkodok leaf extract obtained through maceration process using methanol, ethanol, and ethyl acetate solvents. The extract yield was determined by comparing the weight of the dry extract with the powdered cengkodok leaf material. The total tannin content was analyzed using UV-Vis spectroscopy at a wavelength of 755.8 nm with Folin-Ciocalteu reagent and sodium carbonate. Tannic acid was used as a reference. The research results showed that the yield values for Cengkodok leaf extracted with methanol, ethanol, and ethyl acetate were 5.05%, 4.72%, and 1.59%, respectively. The total tannin content of cengkodok leaf extracts with methanol, ethanol, and ethyl acetate solvents was 0.47%±0.04, 0.37%±0.01, and 0.19%±0.04, respectively. Based on this research, it can be concluded that methanol is the most effective solvent in extraction and determination of total tannin content of Cengkodok leaf extracts.

Abstract

Due to its low carbon content, mild steel is prone to corrosion. Therefore, corrosion inhibitors are needed to decrease the corrosive rate of mild steel. This research aims to investigate the influence of adding potassium iodide to miana leaves extract (Coleus scutellaroides (L.) Benth.) (MLE) on the corrosion rate of mild steel, identify the type of adsorption, synergistic effects and characterize the surface of mild steel both before and after the addition of potassium iodide. The weight loss method is employed to test the corrosion rate, and the type of adsorption is identified through thermodynamic calculations. Surface characterization is evaluated using Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR) and Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM). As potassium iodide is added, the weight loss findings show an increase in inhibitory efficiency. When potassium iodide concentration was 0.4 g/L and temperature was 30°C, the maximum inhibitory efficiency was attained, which was 92.784%. Characterization analysis indicates the interaction between potassium iodide and MLE with the surface of mild steel. This research has not been explored yet and is expected to provide information on the use of potassium iodide and MLE as environmentally friendly corrosion inhibitors.
