Abstract

This study aims to analyze the trends and effectiveness of learning models used to improve explanatory text writing skills in elementary school students. This study used the Systematic Literature Review (SLR) method with the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines. Articles were collected from the Scopus, Web of Science, and Google Scholar databases with a publication range of 2015–2024. Of the total 120 articles identified, nine articles met the inclusion criteria and were further analyzed. The synthesis results show that constructivist-based learning models such as Project-Based Learning (PjBL), Contextual Teaching and Learning (CTL), Discovery Learning, Genre-Based Approach (GBA), and RADEC are effective in improving students' explanatory text writing skills. This effectiveness is related to the characteristics of the model, which emphasizes active engagement, collaboration, reflection, and higher-order thinking processes. This study recommends that elementary school teachers strengthen their pedagogical competencies in applying innovative learning models that are appropriate to the characteristics of students and the texts being taught.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the role of mother tongue revitalization (regional language) in the formation of children's social identity in elementary schools and its potential to prevent cultural loss due to modernization and globalization. As the first language learned, the mother tongue plays a crucial role in shaping children's social and cultural identity. However, its use is increasingly declining, especially among younger generations who tend to prefer Indonesian or foreign languages in daily communication. This research employed a qualitative, descriptive narrative approach to explore the perspectives, experiences, and practices of teachers, parents, and students in elementary schools that incorporate regional languages into their curriculum. Data were collected through questionnaires, observations, and documentation. The findings indicate that revitalizing the mother tongue in elementary schools not only supports the preservation of regional languages but also strengthens children's social and cultural identity. The study highlights the need for more comprehensive education policies that prioritize the preservation of regional languages from an early age, ensuring that the cultural values embedded in mother tongues are maintained.

Abstract

This study examines the early reading fluency of second-grade students using the Words Correct Per Minute (WCPM) method as a diagnostic basis to support multiliteracy development in elementary education. The participants consisted of 87 students from four second-grade classes (2A–2D) at a public elementary school in Cimahi City. Data were collected through WCPM assessments, learning motivation questionnaires, and teacher interviews. Results showed that the average WCPM scores ranged from 59.13 (Class 2A) to 63.3 (Class 2C), indicating a moderate level of fluency across all classes. Motivation scores were also categorized as moderate (M = 50.74; SD = 25.84), suggesting that cognitive and affective aspects jointly influenced students’ reading performance. Interviews revealed that low reading fluency was affected by limited home literacy support, low confidence, and insufficient reading practice. These findings highlight the interrelation between cognitive, motivational, and environmental factors in early literacy development. The WCPM method proved effective in identifying students who require additional reading support. Overall, this study provides a diagnostic foundation for developing remedial literacy initiatives, such as the Reading Clinic based on the Seven BK Hebat Strategies, to strengthen reading fluency and multiliteracy in line with Sustainable Development Goal 4 on quality education.

Abstract

This study aims to map reading literacy research in the context of primary school through a bibliometric approach. The analysis and interpretation in this study used data from Scopus. Our data is focused from 2014 to 2024 by including the keywords reading literacy, primary school and elementary school. VosViewer software is used to map and identify publication trends, author collaborations, clusters and thematic keywords. This study’s outcomes reveal that South African countries, Germany, the Russian Federation, Indonesia, China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Slovenia, Australia and Norway are the most contributors to the theme of this study. Meanwhile, many authors have not recollaborated across regions and the theme of this research is still dominated in the scientific field of social science. Keywords such as mixed method, communicative competence, metacognition, reading fluency and project-based learning are potential words that are still rarely explored. These keywords are future research opportunities for the theme of reading literacy research in elementary schools.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the effectiveness of the "BANDREC" teaching materials based on the RADEC learning model in improving cultural and civic literacy among Phase A students in the subject of Pancasila values and symbols. The method used is a quantitative pre-experimental study with a one-group pretest-posttest design. The research subjects were second-grade elementary schoolstudents in Bandung. The results showed a significant improvement in students' cultural and civic literacy after using the "BANDREC" teaching materials. The average pre-test score of 28.22 increased to 70.78 in the post-test. Statistical analysis indicates that teaching materials based on the RADEC learning model are effective in enhancing students' understanding of Pancasila values and symbols. These findings suggest that the use of interactive RADEC-based teaching materials can serve as a relevant learning strategy to strengthen students' cultural and civic literacy

Abstract

This study analyzes the implementation of Science Process Skills (SPS) in elementary science instruction and identifies context-specific best practices and challenges. Adopting a qualitative case study design, data were collected through classroom observations,semi-structured interviews with teachers, and analysis of lesson plans and student worksheets in an elementary school in Bandung, Indonesia. Findings show that SPS are promoted through active learning strategies like group discussions, hands-on experiments, and the use of teaching modules and student worksheets. Observed SPS components include questioning, hypothesis formulation, variable identification, procedure design, observation, and scientific reporting. However, teacher-directed formats such as highly prescriptive task structures constrain students’ autonomy and creativity in scientific reasoning. The study recommends strengthening inquiry-based pedagogy that expands opportunities for exploration, together with professional development focused on scaffolding and formative feedback. These measures can better cultivate students’ independence and higher-order scientific thinking. The contribution of this study lies in detailing how micro-level pedagogical routines shape SPS enactment and in offering actionable levers for improving inquiry-rich elementary science classrooms in low-resource settings

Abstract

This study aims to describe the profile of fifth-grade elementary students’ reading comprehension in narrative texts based on four dimensions of Barrett’s taxonomy: literal, reorganization, inferential, and evaluative–appreciative comprehension. A quantitative descriptive approach was employed and supported by qualitative data. The research subjects consisted of 28 elementary school students. Quantitative data were collected through reading comprehension tests, while qualitative data were obtained from classroom observations, teacher interviews, and analysis of Indonesian language teaching modules. The data analysis technique used was Miles and Huberman with data analysis components, namely data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results of the study show that, in general, students' reading comprehension skills are still moderate to low. Of all participants, no students achieved the excellent category, while 21.4% were in the good category, 21.4% in the fair category, and the rest (57.2%) were still in the poor to very poor category. The highest achievement was seen in the literal aspect, which indicates that students are relatively able to recognize the information expressed in the text. However, in the reorganization, inferential, and evaluative appreciative aspects, most students showed difficulty in rearranging the plot, drawing implied meanings, and critically and reflectively assessing the content of the reading. These results indicate the need to apply more interactive and contextual learning strategies and media to improve the ability to understand the content of reading comprehensively

Abstract

This study aims to describe numeracy literacy skills through learning models and their relationship with self-efficacy skills. The research method used is a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) which includes 3 stages, namely planning, conducting, and reporting. The data collection process was carried out by identifying articles relevant to the research topic based on predetermined criteria. This study examined 20 articles based on search results from the Google Scholar database with the help of the Publish Or Perish software. The data synthesis in this study was then presented in data tables and reinforced with narrative forms. The results of this study show that the improvement of numeracy literacy at the elementary school level for the period 2020-2025 is predominantly achieved by implementing the problem-based learning (PBL) model. On the other hand, students' self-efficacy also has an influence on learning success. Furthermore, students' numeracy literacy has a positive correlation with self efficacy, characterized by the higher the students' self efficacy, the higher their numeracy literacy.
