Abstract

The purpose of this research was to examine whether or not high school students may benefit from using a peer tutor to improve their English conversation skills. High school students were the subjects of this study that combined qualitative and quantitative approaches to data gathering and analysis. Significant improvements in students' English conversation abilities throughout the course of the study backed up the researchers' conclusion that the peer tutor technique was helpful in helping high school students learn the language. Student interest and engagement, peer support and cooperation, and personalized feedback and assistance all play a role in the peer tutoring method's success. Discussion of the study's implications for educators and language instructors was included, with a focus on how the peer tutor technique might increase students' interest and motivation in language learning and the need for further study in this area. The abstract wrapped up with a summary of the study's key findings, which centered on the peer tutoring approach's efficacy in improving high school students' proficiency in English conversation. The abstract was well written, providing prospective readers with a short summary of the study's aims, methodology, and findings.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to analyse the development of the Kampus Mengajar programme and its role in improving the teaching skills of students at the University of Muhammadiyah Makassar, as well as the opportunities, benefits, and challenges of the program. This research uses a qualitative case study approach, with the participants being students of Muhammadiyah University of Makassar and the school staff, including the principal, teachers, and staff of SDI Bontoramba in Gowa Regency, South Sulawesi. The results showed that the Kampus Mengajar programme plays a very important role in developing and improving student teaching abilities and skills obtained through implemented programmes and teaching assistance in terms of increasing student literacy and numeracy. In addition, other programmes such as technology adaptation and administrative assistance also provide great benefits to the school, especially training on the implementation of online learning and the development of learning media. Teachers in the school are also able to practise directly and develop the ability to use technology in the teaching and learning process with the help of students at Kampus Mengajar. The role of universities also has a major impact on improving students' teaching abilities through evaluation and student teaching feedback. The program's challenges for students are related to a lack of student ability in terms of using technology during learning, as well as some students' low literacy and numeracy skills, requiring more intensive assistance, and also requiring creativity and innovation in creating learning media that are fun, useful, and on target.

Abstract

This research aims to explore the perspectives of non-English major students on the use of M-Reader as a tool for supporting extensive reading initiatives. The study investigates the effectiveness of M-Reader in enhancing reading skills, vocabulary acquisition, and fostering a love for reading in the target language. The research also examines students' experiences, satisfaction, and challenges faced while using M-Reader. By understanding students' perspectives, the study provides valuable insights for educators and curriculum developers to optimize the use of M-Reader in supporting extensive reading initiatives for non-English majors. The study adopts a quantitative descriptive research methodology to collect data and analyse the perspectives of the students. Surveys or questionnaires were employed to gather quantitative data, enabling a systematic and structured approach to acquire information about the participants' attitudes, perceptions, and experiences concerning the usage of M-Reader. The survey instruments are designed to elicit quantitative responses, such as ratings on a Likert scale or multiple-choice questions, thus producing numerical data that can be statistically analysed. This quantitative approach empowers the researchers to identify trends, patterns, and correlations within the data, facilitating a comprehensive comprehension of the students' outlook on the effectiveness and usability of M-Reader in supporting their extensive reading programs. The findings from this research contribute to the existing knowledge on the impact and utility of digital tools like M-Reader in language learning contexts.

Abstract

The present study investigated problems faced by first year students at the National University of Lesotho (NUL) as they try to adjust their writing into academic style. The research subjects were from the faculties of Humanities and Science and Technology. Data were collected from the students’ Communication and Study Skills (CSS) past examination papers (2018/2019). The study employed a descriptive design. A suitable analytical framework was crafted drawing from Appraisal and Metadiscourse theories. Also, some portions of the essays were analysed qualitatively to get a better understanding of the practices and also to identify common problems among students. The problems identified included citation incompetence, a limited repertoire of reporting verbs, poor academic writing style and some influence of creative writing. The study concluded that NUL first year students need more assistance to improve their academic writing skills and therefore recommended a number of solutions with more direct tutor intervention.
