Abstract

Flooding is one of the most common natural disasters in Indonesia, and the capital city of DKI Jakarta is no exception. Every year, there are always areas that experience flooding, mainly triggered by the overflow of flowing rivers. Jakarta itself is located in a downstream area consisting of swampy areas that are floodplains. One of the river basins that most often experiences flooding is the Krukut River. This is mainly triggered by the high value of rainfall which can reach more than 200 mm in a day. Massive development along the riverbanks has exacerbated the flooding, especially in the Pela Mampang segment which includes Pela Mampang Village, Mampang Prapatan Subdistrict and Petogogan Village, Kebayoran Baru Subdistrict. This research models two-dimensional flood inundation using the HEC-RAS program to describe the distribution of potential floods for return periods of 2, 5, 10, 25, 50 and 100 years. In addition, a spatial analysis of the affected infrastructure up to the RT level was also conducted to provide an overview of the extent of inundation using 4 types of classifications (low, medium, high and extreme). The results showed that 19 out of 150 RTs in Pela Mampang urban village and 33 out of 79 RTs in Petogogan urban village were flooded with a total inundation area of 100-year flood reaching 39.58 ha. The affected infrastructure reached 1,903 units with the area of inundated roads reaching 3.27 ha. It is hoped that this research can provide input for future infrastructure planning and river management in order to anticipate and mitigate disasters better.

Abstract

ne of the imminent programs the government instituted for this concern is the Alternative Learning System (ALS) which aims at providing opportunities for students who are not succeeding in the traditional classroom setting to obtain academic credit, career exploration activities, and extended teacher/peer support in an alternative setting where the ultimate goal is that obtaining a diploma. The study aimed to determine the reading levels of the respondents before and after the administration of a reading intervention program. The Reading program was conceptualized as an extended service to enhance the reading abilities of the ALS students. It employed the descriptive type of research to gather facts and information regarding the reading performance levels of the respondents. The respondents of the study consisted of 70 students from ALS Program of the DepEd ALS Program. The researchers utilized the Functional Literacy Test (FLT) a standardized reading assessment tool which was administered before the intervention and after the reading program. T-test was used in the treatment of the data. Based on the findings; generally, the respondents’ age ranges from 15-23 with a minimal percentage of the ages 42-51. This shows that students tend to stop their education after attending basic education. The mean results of the pre-test which is 4.0294 are far behind the results of the post-test, which is 9.4411 mean, this indicates a highly significant difference is evident in the statistical treatment. A t-value of -29.583 resulted and a p-value of 0.000 was obtained from the data. This proves a high significance is displayed in the results and that the intervention program has proven its effectiveness in the reading performance of the ALS Students.

Abstract

This study determined the factors affecting the reading abilities of Grade 7 learners of Castillejos Resettlement High School, Castillejos District, Schools Division of Zambales for the School Year 2022. The implemented distance learning modality was a great challenge in the teaching-learning process because of the limited assistance and guidance of teachers as the main facilitator in learning. After two academic years, when distance learning modality was implemented due to the Covid 19 Pandemic, the school year opened last August 22, 2022 with full implementation of in-person classes and schools have conducted reading pre-tests and screening tests with the use of Phil IRI (Philippine Informal Reading Inventory). The results in the conducted reading pre-test and group screening test pressed the necessity to find out the factors affecting the reading abilities of students in Grade 7 at Castillejos Resettlement High School. The researcher utilized a descriptive quantitative method of research and conducted a research questionnaire in gathering data as instrument which included respondents’ profile and perception of the learner- related factors, teacher-related factors and school-related factors. Likert scale, frequency and percentage distribution, Pearson Correlation Coefficient r and mean were used to scale the gathered data. The results revealed that the respondents, in general, strongly agreed that learner-related factors, teacher-related factors and school-related factors affected their reading abilities. Hence, there was negatively low non-significant correlation between the reading abilities and the factors affecting the reading abilities among students in terms of learner-related factors, teacher-related factors and school-related factors.

Abstract

The pandemic COVID-19 unveiled and magnified the various learning challenges experienced by learners which yield to learning gaps, losses, and higher dropout rates, especially in the tertiary level of education. With this, there is a need to investigate on how learners are able to complete their respective course programs in the new normal. This study attempted to understand the learner’s course completion through a graduation cohort analysis approach which is anchored on a quantitative-qualitative research design. Results uncovered that gender and residency of the learners are positively correlated to the length of their course completion. In addition, the course completion varies on the learners’ gender and residency. Furthermore, 79% of the learners were able to complete their course on-time with an average of 3.72 years and standard deviation of 1.09 years. Consequently, financial, mental-health, and lack of resources were the emerging reasons for the temporary discontinuation of their studies. Hence, these findings can be used as a basis for the Philippine Private Higher Education Institution to plan and implement an institutional learning recovery program.

Abstract

The development of non-cash payments is predicted to have an effect on real money demand, not only in Indonesia. The use of electronic money in Indonesia itself continues to increase especially in the covid-19 pandemic and it supported by technological developments. The purpose of this study was to analyse the effect of non-cash payments on real money demand in Indonesia. The method used is Vector Error Correction Model (VECM) using secondary data from Januari 2019 to December 2022. The independent variable is the amount of money circulated by Bank Indonesia, and the independent variables used are the value of debit / ATM card transactions, credit cards, and e -money. The results indicate that in the long run debit cards and e-money have a significant negative effect on money supply, while credit cards have positive effect on money supply but it’s not significan. While in the short term, all variables debit cards, credit cards and e-money are not significant on money supply.

Abstract

The number of individuals identifying as non-binary or genderqueer has significantly increased over time. This group experiences their gender identity as neither entirely male nor exclusively female; instead, they perceive it as a combination or a complete absence of binary gender identification that may evolve or remain consistent over time. Nevertheless, there is a limited amount of research focusing on the experiences of non-binary students, leading to common misunderstandings within their community. Consequently, this study sought to delve into the physical, mental, interpersonal, emotional, and spiritual experiences of non-binary students. To analyze the collected data, a qualitative approach, specifically a narrative research design, was employed. Three students from the Philippine Science High School - Ilocos Region Campus were chosen through snowball sampling to share their personal experiences as non-binary students. Based on the gathered information, it can be concluded that non-binary students in the PSHS-IRC community undergo a range of experiences that significantly affect their physical, mental, interpersonal, emotional, and spiritual well-being. It was observed that they struggle to form a positive self-image due to their dissatisfaction with their physical appearance. Additionally, their body dysmorphia, stemming from a dislike for their bodies perceived as too masculine or feminine, negatively impacts their mental health. Moreover, homophobia continues to disrupt their interpersonal relationships, as they often endure physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual abuse. Nonetheless, they still have support networks that provide ongoing assistance. Lastly, the results also indicate that their faith in Christianity has waned due to relentless verbal attacks from conservative individuals.

Abstract

This descriptive qualitative research describes the findings in the field of innovation carried out by the souvenir home industry in Jember Regency, which includes product innovation, service/marketing innovation, and process innovation. This research was conducted in May 2022, with the target subjects being the owners of the local snacks industry. This study uses interviews, observation, and documentation techniques to obtain data on development of the number of local snacks industries, turnover, and regulations related to food/processing companies. The results indicate that the COVID-19 pandemic has threatened business continuity in the three local snacks industries due to decreased revenue and product sales and delays in product marketing and distribution. This indicates that product innovation can lead to easier production; product innovation is also important for effective marketing and, consequently, the company's financial performance. Therefore, business innovation needs to be done in the context of business development, especially local snacks products, so that they can compete with other local snacks household industries.

Abstract

The new lifestyle of the people that emerged as a result of the Covid-19 Pandemic which emphasizes the importance of a healthy lifestyle also influences economic and social activities in implementing the wellness economy. Healthy food can be traced from raw materials, processes, finished products and physical presentation to hygiene and in the concept of sharia it is called halal food which legally has a halal certificate. The purpose of this study was to identify MSMEs that already have halal certificates, analyze challenges and opportunities, analyze the effect of halal branding on sales, and formulate a model for strengthening MSME halal branding in Jember Regency. The method used is the Mix Method, beginning with a qualitative descriptive with secondary data collection, observation, and Focus Group Discussion (FGD). The results obtained are about 8, There are 764 MSMEs in Jember Regency and only 5% are halal certified. The minimum number of MSMEs that have halal certificates is because there are obstacles such as a lack of understanding of registration procedures, too many registration requirements, small businesses, time constraints.

Abstract

The study compared the reliability and validity of the Math Anxiety Scale (MAS) in different scale formats: 5-point scale, checklist, visual analog scale, and 4-point scale. Specifically, it sought to assess the student’s level of math anxiety, determine the reliability coefficients of each scale format, test the concurrent validity against the standardized scale, and compare the extracted factors with the original MAS. The respondents were 67 students, a total enumeration from two sections of a laboratory school in La Trinidad, Benguet. The standardized MAS (5-point scale) was adopted and transformed into a checklist, visual analog scale, and 4-point scale. The tests were administered at three-day intervals. The findings indicated that students experienced a moderate level of math anxiety, with cognitive dimension substantially contributing to their anxiety. The visual analog scale demonstrated the highest reliability coefficient, followed by the 4-point scale, checklist, and 5-point scale, respectively. Concurrent validity analysis revealed that the visual analog scale exhibited the highest concurrent validity, followed by the 4-point scale and checklist, respectively. Based on the results, the majority of the students are experiencing a moderate level of math anxiety. Among the four scale formats, the visual analog scale provides the most reliable and valid responses to be used in measuring math anxiety among junior high school students with ages ranging from 11 to 13 years old.

Abstract

This study was an attempt to investigate the dynamics of a phenomenon that happened in a self-service laundry shop. In the beginning, very few customers would patronize it. But little by little more customers began to frequent the shop and most of these were from the locality. The preference shift of customers was interesting. This situation was believed to reveal some findings that could be used in similar businesses. Qualitative was the method and specifically a case study. It made use of observations and informal interviews of two laundry attendants who have been in at least two years in the laundry shop, one maintenance personnel who has been present since the start of the establishment, and over five hundred regular customers. The observations and interviews revolve around the areas of concern at the start of the laundry shop, key characteristics of regular customers, reasons why customers made the preference shift from going with what they used to do towards availing the new service package, and the challenges encountered in the process of service delivery. Conclusions on the four areas of inquiry were; service value realization was slow and this influenced the initiatives that were made; customer satisfaction was dependent on price, service quality, and rapport and subsequently led to referrals; customers realized that it is more convenient to avail of the new service package, and competition served as a reason to improve service delivery; and sustained customer loyalty and organizational citizenship provide an environment for growth.
