Abstract

Advertisement is a powerful medium that relies on various elements to convey its intended message to the target audience. When exploring the effective communication of messages in advertisements, the intricacy of meaning involves both verbal and non-verbal elements. To grasp the influence and significance of a text that incorporates multiple modes—for instance verbal, visual, and aural—a thorough analysis of an advertisement using multiple modes is essential to comprehend the nuanced layers of meaning.  In creating the great advertisement, there are some reason for Makeup Company to take full advantage of using Instagram in promoting their brand and also the product. This research aims to analyze the multimodal resources in the Rollover Reaction’s makeup product namely Dewdrop advertisement on Instagram based on five semiotic multimodal systems proposed by Anstey & Bull (2018). This research applies a qualitative method and descriptive approach. The data were taken in the form of an image that was taken from a screenshot of the Rollover Reaction advertisement on Instagram. The result shows that there are three aspects of the multimodal system contained in this advertisement, including linguistic, visual, and spatial. These three aspects are mutually connected to convey the messages of Rollover Reaction's Instagram page and also promote and introduce this unique brand.

The data was analyzed using Microsoft Excel to calculate the average score, percentage of students’ achievements in listening tests, and percentage scores of students’ observations. This study found that the students’ average score in Cycle 1 (87.5%) was higher than the students’ average score in the baseline data (12.5%). Based on the observation, the students were enthusiastic during the teaching and learning process. Abstract

This study is an annotated on the translation of English mental processes in a novel The Nameless Ones into Indonesian. The study aims to examine the equivalence of English mental process, categories of mental processes, translation strategies, and translation principles. The source of data was the novel The Nameless Ones. It was written by John Connoly and published in 2021. The data of this study were the English mental processes and their equivalences in Indonesian. The total number of the data was 100 data. The methods applied were qualitative and quantitative. The approaches were introspective and retrospective approach. The findings show that there were four categories of mental processes found in the novel, namely cognition, perception, emotion, and volition. The highest number of mental processes was cognition, the second place was emotion, the third was perception, and the least was volition. On the other hand, there were eight translation strategies applied in translating the English mental process. They were literal translation, unit shift, distribution change, clause structure change, transposition, calque, emphasis change, and antonymy. The most used strategy was literal translation since most of the mental processes could be translated literally by using the closest equivalents. On the contrary, the least used strategy was antonymy. This study implies that in translating the source text into the target text, the translator should comprehend the translation strategies and other theories relating to translation in order to produce a good quality of translation.

Abstract

This study aimed to analyze the implementation of online English learning in tourism schools in Bali, focusing on the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats associated with its execution. Employing a qualitative research approach, the study involved four English lecturers from four different tourism schools in Bali. Data were collected through observations, interviews, and literature reviews. The analysis revealed that online English learning was conducted using the English for Specific Purposes (ESP) framework, tailored to the tourism and hospitality sectors. The implementation involved various platforms, including Zoom Meeting, WhatsApp, and other digital tools. Strengths identified included the flexibility of time and space, allowing both lecturers and students to access learning materials from any location at any time. The availability of diverse online platforms provided lecturers with the ability to customize their teaching methods effectively. However, weaknesses covered technical issues, including inadequate devices and unstable internet connections, posed significant challenges. The study also highlighted the opportunities presented by the increasing digital literacy of students and the proliferation of online learning platforms, which facilitated a more interactive and engaging learning experience. Nonetheless, threats included low public awareness, particularly among parents, and varying levels of digital proficiency among lecturers, which impacted the overall effectiveness of online instruction. The findings underscore the need for enhanced support structures and training to optimize online English learning in tourism education.
