Abstract

This study analyzes Verrell Bramasta's political communication strategy in the 2024 elections as a representative of the younger generation through a descriptive qualitative approach with a focus on digital communication patterns on TikTok and Instagram. The results show that Verrell Bramasta utilizes personal narratives, symbolic visuals, and an emotional style combined with agenda setting and Push, Pull, Pass Marketing strategies to build an image of a young politician relevant to Generation Z and millennials. This strategy shows a shift from an elite political communication model to a more personal and emotional form based on social media. However, the effectiveness of this strategy is still limited by the lack of political substance and two-way interaction. Academically, this study contributes to the understanding of the transformation of public figures' digital political communication and its implications for the patterns of political engagement of the younger generation in Indonesia.

Abstract

Augustine's thinking on sin is one of the pillars of Christian theology, but it is often narrowed down to merely a moral transgression, rather than the existential condition of humanity after the Fall. In the modern context, marked by materialism and an increase in the intensity of worldly desires, this theological understanding needs to be re-examined. This study aims to analyze the relationship between Augustine's theological anthropology and the classification of three forms of sin in 1 John 2:16: the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life. Using a theological-hermeneutic qualitative analysis of patristic and biblical theology literature, this study presents a hermeneutic integration between Augustine's theology and John's hamartology. The results show that Augustine understands sin as misdirected love, namely the reversal of the human heart from God toward oneself (incurvatus in se), in line with the description of epithumia in 1 John. This study concludes that sin is an existential corruption of human nature manifested through disordered love. The novelty of this study lies in its integrative explanation of the relationship between Augustine's ordo amoris and the three categories of desire in 1 John 2:16, which enriches the theological understanding of the existential nature of sin in contemporary theological discourse.

Abstract

The explosive rise of the Korean Wave has not only transformed Gen Z’s entertainment preferences but has also penetrated the most personal domain: the way they understand, evaluate, and construct their sense of identity. This study aims to analyze how Korean culture (the Korean Wave) influences the identity formation of Generation Z in Indonesia and to identify potential identity crises emerging from this cross-cultural process. Using a qualitative method through in-depth interviews, observation, and digital document analysis, this research involves informants aged 15–25 who have high exposure to Korean culture. The findings show that Korean culture positively contributes to Gen Z identity through enhanced creativity, self-expression, work ethic, and the formation of fandom-based social communities. However, the study also reveals negative impacts, including pressure from beauty standards, tendencies toward consumerism, excessive social comparison, and a weakening attachment to local culture, which may trigger identity confusion. This study highlights that Gen Z identity is formed through a negotiation between local and global values and that cultural literacy is a key factor in preventing identity crises. The study contributes academically by expanding understanding of the dynamics of youth identity in the context of cultural globalization and offering new perspectives on the role of popular culture in identity construction.

Abstract

The digital era increases opportunities for cross-cultural interaction, but Generation Z is still vulnerable to cultural stereotypes and misconceptions. This study aims to analyze the use of the Roblox platform as a cross-cultural learning medium to reduce stereotypes and increase empathy. Using qualitative methods with a descriptive approach, data were obtained through in-depth interviews, participant observation, and documentation of interactions and cultural representations in the virtual world. The results show that collaborative features, real-time communication, avatar customization, and thematic world exploration in Roblox encourage cultural dialogue, reduce social distance, and reduce the tendency for negative generalizations. The gamification mechanism also increases motivation and intercultural sensitivity. The study concludes that Roblox has significant potential as an effective cross-cultural education medium for Generation Z, although its implementation requires adequate pedagogical support and technological infrastructure.

Abstract

Pacu Jawi was originally a post-harvest tradition of the Minangkabau community, rooted in agrarian values and functioning as a sacred cultural celebration as well as a form of communal entertainment. With the expansion of cultural tourism, Pacu Jawi has undergone a significant transformation in both function and meaning, evolving into a key tourism attraction in Tanah Datar Regency. This study aims to analyze the transformation of Pacu Jawi from an agrarian-based cultural tradition into a commodified tourism product and to identify the forms of social hybridity that emerge through interactions between local cultural practices and the demands of the tourism industry. Employing a descriptive qualitative approach, data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation across four nagari that regularly host Pacu Jawi. The findings reveal that Pacu Jawi has experienced commodification that shifts its cultural meaning from a ritual practice to an economically oriented tourism spectacle. This process produces a hybrid cultural space in which traditional values, customary symbols, and local aesthetics intersect with the expectations of tourists, digital media, and global tourism dynamics. Consequently, Pacu Jawi now fulfills a dual role: as a preserved Minangkabau cultural heritage and as a strategic cultural identity used to promote Tanah Datar within the contemporary tourism landscape.

Abstract

Developments in this era of disruption show a rather worrying phenomenon in the morals of students. The proliferation of unscreened information means that students are easily exposed to negative content that can weaken their religious character, as well as the erosion of moral values in their daily interactions. In this case, Islamic education is important for shaping religious awareness and noble character. This study aims to analyze the role of Islamic education in building the religious character of students. Using a qualitative approach with a library research method, data was collected through searching various literature sources such as books, scientific articles, journals, and digital documents relevant to the research topic, then analyzed using content analysis techniques. The results of the study show that Islamic education shapes religious character through the interaction of internal factors, such as family, personality, teacher role models, and intentions, as well as external factors, including the school environment, peers, society, and digital culture. Islamic education is implemented through contextual PAI learning, religious-based extracurricular activities, worship habits, and school management that instills Islamic values. With this integrated strategy, students are not only ritually obedient, but also have noble character, spiritual awareness, social responsibility, and the ability to practice Islamic values in their daily lives. Thus, Islamic education becomes an ethical, moral, and spiritual foundation that is relevant in shaping a generation of character in the modern era.

Abstract

The Kingdom of God is a central concept that unifies the theological structure of the Old Testament (OT), spanning from God's cosmic sovereignty to the eschatological direction of salvation history. This study aims to analyze the Kingdom of God as an integral theological paradigm by tracing the ontological foundations of God's reign, the relational mode through covenant (Ex 19:5-6; 2 Sam 7:12-16), and the ethical foundations of justice and faithfulness (Ps 97:2; Isa 11:3-5). Using a qualitative-theological method with historical-grammatical exegesis and canonical hermeneutics, this study examines key OT texts to map out a consistent and interrelated structure of the kingdom. The results show that the Kingdom of God functions as the axis of Old Testament theology: cosmic sovereignty establishes the basis of divine government, the covenant provides a relational framework for the life of the people, and justice and faithfulness become the norms of the kingdom that shape the historical praxis of Israel. The eschatological dimension reveals the direction of the kingdom toward universality and eternity (Isa 2:2-4; Dan 7:14; Zech 14:9). This study also affirms a natural continuity with the New Testament, where Jesus' proclamation that “the Kingdom of God is at hand” (Mark 1:15) appears as the fulfillment of the kingdom structure that had been built in the Old Testament. The main contribution of this study lies in the formulation of the kingdom paradigm as a hermeneutical framework that helps to read the theological unity of the Old and New Testaments, as well as enriching the study of Old Testament theology through the integration of ontological, covenantal, ethical, and eschatological dimensions. These findings open up space for further research on the ethical, ecclesiological, and missionary implications of the Kingdom of God in the life of the people.
