Abstract

Foreign direct investment (FDI) is an important input to the achievement of a country's goals such as economic growth and poverty. The study looks at the impact of financial development (FD) on foreign direct investment (FDI) in nine ASEAN member states along with China, India, Japan and South Korea in 2018-2022. The estimate method used is the GMM method (generalized method of moment). The study found that financial development positively and significantly influenced the flow of foreign direct investment. Trade openness, human development and price levels were also found to influence FDI while economic growth was found to have no significant impact. The findings in this study imply that a good financial system is essential to attract even higher FDI.

Abstract

A low level of employment opportunities cause problems in a country's economy. Low employment opportunities are caused by an increase workers number without being balanced by the availability of new jobs. This research aims to determine the effect of population, growth rate of Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP), Human Development Index (HDI), and Regency/City Minimum Wage (UMK) on the level of employment opportunities in West Java Province. This research uses secondary data through quantitative methods. The analysis used is panel data regression. The research results show that population size has a positive and insignificant effect on the level of employment opportunities. The growth rate of Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP) and the Human Development Index (HDI) have a positive and significant effect on the level of employment opportunities, while the District/City Minimum Wage (UMK) has a negative and significant effect on the level of employment opportunities. Policy proposals for the West Java Provincial government to focus on development by developing infrastructure and investment that have the potential to create new jobs. Programs to improve the quality of human resources need to be improved to develop workforce skills. Apart from that, the government needs to consider structuring wage policies and creating decent work opportunities to protect the workforce.

Abstract

Economic growth is one of the important economic indicators in the economy. The study aims to analyze the factors that influence economic growth in BRICS countries during the period 2008-2023. Independent variables are expected to affect economic growth in this study including primary sector commodities, trade, industry, and population. The method in this research uses fixed effect panel data regression model. The results explain that the factors that positively affect economic growth in BRICS countries are trade and industry. Meanwhile, the contribution of primary sector commodities and population have not significantly affected economic growth in BRICS countries. This research is expected to contribute to various aspects that have an impact on the global and regional economy, especially on BRICS countries (Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa) in policy making that focuses on planning strategies to increase economic growth based on challenges and opportunities in global and international markets.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to evaluate the importance of the relationship between Indonesia's Human Development Index (HDI) and government spending on food assistance. This study uses the Panel Data Regression approach to aggregate cross-sectional data from 34 provinces throughout the years 2018–2022. The data utilized in this investigation came from the Ministry of Finance (KEMENKEU) and Statistics Indonesia (BPS) sources. This study found that food social assistance has a positive influence on HDI. School Expectancy, the School Operational Assistance (BOS) budget, and the Health Operational Assistance budget (BOK) also have a positive influence on HDI. Meanwhile, the poverty rate has a negative influence on HDI. As indicated by the rise in the HDI, the study's findings suggest that the government's implementation of Social Food Assistance spending has a beneficial effect on raising the standard of human development in Indonesia.

Abstract

This study examines how forest area, fiscal decentralisation, and sectoral economic growth affect environmental quality across Indonesian provinces. Forests are categorised into conservation, protected, and production areas. Fiscal decentralisation is analysed through natural resource revenue-sharing and local government environmental expenditures, while economic activity is segmented into the primary, secondary, and tertiary sectors. The analysis uses a dynamic panel dataset of 33 provinces from 2017 to 2022. To address potential endogeneity, the study employs a multi-stage estimation strategy, starting with Pooled OLS and Fixed Effects models, followed by the Durbin-Wu Hausman test to justify the use of a dynamic Generalised Method of Moments (GMM) framework, with System-GMM selected as the final estimator. The results indicate that natural resource revenue-sharing has a positive effect on environmental quality. However, economic growth across all sectors negatively impacts environmental outcomes, while environmental protection expenditure shows no significant effect. These findings emphasize the need to adjust decentralised fiscal policies to focus more on ecological outcomes and steer more sustainable regional development.

Abstract

The tax ratio is an important indicator in measuring the performance of a country's taxation sector against Gross Domestic Product (GDP). In Indonesia, the tax ratio is still relatively low and has not reached the minimum standard recommended by the World Bank. This study aims to examine the factors that can affect the tax ratio in Indonesia in the short and long-term using the Error Correction Model (ECM) method. The variables used in the analysis of this study consist of per capita income, economic growth, inflation, unemployment, and the Corruption Perception Index (CPI). The estimation results show that in the long run, per capita income and unemployment have a negative and significant effect on the tax ratio, while economic growth and inflation have a positive and significant effect. CPI shows a negative but insignificant effect. In the short term, only economic growth and inflation have a positive and significant effect on the tax ratio, while other variables are not significant. The ECT coefficient is negative and significant, indicating the existence of an adjustment mechanism towards long-term equilibrium.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effect of the number of tourists, the number of tourist objects, and the number of restaurants on employment in the tourism sector of Banyuwangi Regency. The research method uses regression analysis with secondary data sources in the form of time series data from 2014-2023 from the Central Bureau of Statistics. The results show that the increase in the number of tourists and the increase in tourist objects consistently encourage employment growth in this sector. In contrast, the number of restaurants does not show a strong relationship with the increase in employment, which is likely due to the adoption of digital technology and operational efficiency that reduces dependence on direct workers. This study contributes in providing relevant empirical evidence for local policy makers, particularly in designing tourism development strategies that are oriented towards sustainable and inclusive job creation.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the role of FinTech, sustainable banking, and natural resource revenues collectively influencing environmental outcomes in the ASEAN Plus Three region is still scarce. This study uses panel data regression analysis covering nine ASEAN Plus Three countries over the period 2017 to 2021. The findings provide evidence of the significant influence of FinTech, Sustainable Banking, and natural resource revenues derived from sustainable environmental development activities in Plus Three economies. FinTech has a very negative effect on environmental outcomes. In contrast, sustainable banking does not show a statistically significant effect. Natural resource revenues are positively related to environmental degradation. These results highlight the importance of implementing low-carbon technologies to meet carbon neutrality targets in ASEAN Plus Three countries. The findings offer empirical insights for policymakers to prioritize green technologies, reassess fintech's environmental footprint, and strengthen the sustainable banking framework.

Abstract

In the era of globalization, foreign direct investment (FDI) plays a crucial role in supporting economic growth and stability in developing countries. The ASEAN region strategically attracts FDI due to its diverse economic, social, and institutional characteristics. This study aims to analyze the influence of internal and external factors on FDI in ASEAN-5 countries from 2003 to 2023. The variables studied include corruption, trade openness, Human Development Index (HDI), and economic growth. Using the panel data regression method with a fixed effect model approach, the analysis results show that economic growth positively and significantly affects FDI. In contrast, trade openness shows a significant negative impact. Conversely, the corruption perception index and HDI show no significant effect. These findings emphasize the importance of economic stability and institutional quality in creating a competitive and sustainable investment climate in the ASEAN region.
