Abstract

Diabetes is a disease that has fatal consequences for long-term health. The high prevalence of diabetes is caused by various risk factors, one of which is physical activity as part of a person's lifestyle. Physical activity plays a very important role for people with diabetes because it can convert glucose into energy and lower blood sugar levels in the body. This study was conducted to determine the relationship between physical activity and blood sugar levels in type II diabetes patients in the Mulyorejo Community Health Center area of Malang City during the period of September 2025. This study used a correlation study with a cross-sectional research design. The study population consisted of type II diabetes patients, and the sample size was 80 people using total sampling as the sampling method. Data were collected using the IPAQ questionnaire to measure physical activity and a glucometer to measure blood sugar levels. After the data was obtained, a statistical test in the form of Spearman Rank was performed. The test results obtained a p-Value of 0.0013, which is less than 0.05 as the significance value. Thus, the results of the study stated that there was a significant relationship between Physical Activity and Blood Sugar Levels in Type II DM Patients at the Mulyorejo Community Health Center in Malang City.

Abstract

Self harm is a behaviour of harming oneself without the intention of suicide, commonly seen in adolescents as a form of emotional release.. Low levels of self acceptance are one of the factors contributing to this increase, as it tends to cause negative emotions. One intervention that can help increase self acceptance is a gratitude journal, which is an activity of writing down positive things to be grateful for every day. This study aims to determine the effect of gratitude journals on increasing self acceptance in adolescents wit self harming behaviour. The research design uses a pre-experimental pretest-posttest one group design with total sampling technique (N=29). The research instruments include the Self Harm Inventory (SHI) and Berger’s Self Acceptance Scale, while data analysis uses the Shapiro-Wilk test and Paired Sample T-Test. The result showed an increase in the average self acceptance score from 95,79 to 98,79, but this was not statistically significant (p=0,172). In conclusion, gratitude journal can increase self acceptance, but it does not show a significant effect, so further research with larger sample size and longer intervention duration ins needed.

Abstract

The Intensive Care Unit (ICU) is a critical care setting characterized by high work demands that may adversely affect nurses’ Quality of Nursing Work Life (QNWL). Low QNWL has been associated with increased work-related stress, burnout, reduced job satisfaction, and decreased quality of nursing care. Therefore, a comprehensive analysis of the factors influencing ICU nurses’ QNWL using a multidimensional approach is essential. This study aimed to analyze factors associated with QNWL among ICU nurses at RSUD Haji, East Java Province, Surabaya. A quantitative correlational study with a cross-sectional design was conducted, involving 64 ICU nurses selected through total sampling. Data were collected using structured questionnaires assessing individual, social-contextual environment, operational, and administrative factors and were analyzed using Spearman rank correlation, Chi-square tests, and linear regression analysis. The results revealed significant associations between QNWL and social-contextual environment (p = 0.000), operational (p = 0.047), and administrative factors (p = 0.034). Among individual factors, only income showed a significant correlation with QNWL (p = 0.005). Multivariate analysis identified administrative factors as the dominant predictor of QNWL (β = 0.402; p = 0.001). These findings indicate that QNWL among ICU nurses is primarily influenced by social-contextual environment, operational, and administrative factors, with income being the only significant individual determinant. This study underscores the importance of organizational and managerial policies in enhancing nurses’ well-being and quality of work life.

Abstract

Hypertension is a non-communicable disease that is a leading cause of morbidity and mortality, especially in the elderly. Diet is a key factor in controlling blood pressure, yet many older adults still do not follow an appropriate diet, including the Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension (DASH) diet. This dietary inadequacy contributes to the difficulty of controlling blood pressure in elderly with hypertension. The Objective to determine the difference in blood pressure before and after the implementation of the DASH diet in elderly with hypertension. This study used a quasi-experimental design with a non-equivalent control group approach, involving 30 respondents who were divided into treatment and control groups through total sampling. Respondents were selected based on the criteria of elderly with pre-hypertension, grade 1, and grade 2 hypertension. The independent variable was the DASH diet, while the dependent variable was changes in blood pressure. Data analysis included univariate analysis for respondent characteristics and comparison of blood pressure, as well as bivariate analysis using the Paired T-Test and Mann Whitney Test. The Paired T-Test in the control group was 0.719 for systolic and 0.546 for diastolic. Paired T-Test test in the treatment group 0.000 in systolic and 0.002 in diastolic. Mann-Whitney Test in the control and treatment groups 0.027 in systolic and 0.032 in diastolic. There was a significant difference between systolic and diastolic blood pressure before and after implementing the DASH diet in elderly people with hypertension. The DASH diet is effective as a non-pharmacological intervention in controlling blood pressure. The results of this study recommend that nurses play an active role in providing education, support, and monitoring the implementation of the DASH diet as part of comprehensive nursing care for elderly people with hypertension.

Abstract

Hypertension and dyslipidemia, encompassing both high-density lipoprotein (HDL) and non-HDL categories, are frequently linked with cardiovascular disease. An imbalance in HDL and non-HDL cholesterol levels, such as an increase in LDL, triglycerides, and total cholesterol, has been demonstrated to increase the risk of atherosclerosis, as reflected in the Framingham score. The present study employed a cross-sectional approach to examine the relationship or correlation between the variables. The sample consisted of hypertensive patients who met the inclusion criteria. The data presented herein were obtained through laboratory tests of HDL, LDL, triglyceride, and total cholesterol levels, as well as cardiovascular risk assessment using the Framingham score. The research data were analyzed using Kruskal-Wallis. A statistically significant relationship was identified between the HDL lipid profile, HDL cholesterol, LDL, triglycerides, and total cholesterol with the Framingham score (p < 0.05). The cardiovascular risk score (Framingham score) exhibited an increase concomitant with elevated non-HDL cholesterol levels and diminished HDL in hypertensive patients. The present study found a significant correlation between HDL and non-HDL levels or values and cardiovascular disease risk scores (FRS). These results underscore the significance of monitoring lipid profiles and nursing education in order to prevent cardiovascular complications through comprehensive risk management

Abstract

Medical rehabilitation services are one of the key pillars of the healthcare system, particularly in supporting patient recovery and preventing long-term disability. However, this unit often receives insufficient attention in hospital performance evaluations. This study aims to assess the performance of the Medical Rehabilitation Unit at RSUD Dr. M. Haulussy using the Balanced Scorecard (BSC) approach, which comprises four perspectives: learning and growth, internal business processes, customers, and finances. A quantitative research design was employed using questionnaire instruments and descriptive analysis involving 50 employee respondents and 100 patients. The findings show that, within the learning and growth perspective, there is a commitment to human resource development through training, although access to such opportunities remains uneven. The internal business process perspective highlights weaknesses in service innovation, adequacy of facilities, and continuity of patient care. From the customer perspective, the unit demonstrates a broad market share and a strong growth rate of new patients; however, patient retention and satisfaction levels remain moderate. In the financial perspective, the unit’s contribution to overall hospital revenue is still low (16%), despite clear potential for developing new services. Overall, the BSC evaluation indicates that the Medical Rehabilitation Unit is performing at a moderately good level but requires improvements in facilities, service innovation, staff engagement, and financial strategies to enhance service quality and strengthen its contribution to the hospital.

Abstract

Hypertension is a global health problem with an increasing prevalence and low treatment adherence. This study aimed to assess the effectiveness of the Family-Centered Empowerment Model (FCEM) in improving knowledge, self-care practices, and treatment motivation among adults with hypertension. A pre-experimental one-group pretest-posttest design was employed, involving 38 hypertensive participants selected through purposive sampling in the working area of Letwaru Primary Health Center, Central Maluku Regency. The FCEM intervention consisted of six sessions lasting 60–90 minutes each. Data were collected using structured questionnaires before and three months after the intervention and analyzed using descriptive statistics and the Wilcoxon test. The results indicated substantial enhancements in knowledge, self-care practices, and treatment motivation post-intervention (p < 0.05). The findings indicate that FCEM effectively empowers patients and families, enhances understanding of hypertension, strengthens self-care behaviors, and increases adherence motivation. FCEM has the potential to be implemented as a family-based intervention approach in primary healthcare to support sustainable hypertension management.

Abstract

Background Antihypertensive drugs in the elderly often cause side effects so that complementary therapy is needed, such as the use of herbal products. One effective herbal product is ginger because it contains the chemical compounds gingerol and shogaol which can function to lower blood pressure. The aim is to determine the difference in systolic and diastolic blood pressure between before and after treatment. This research method uses a quasi-experimental approach with a One Group Pretest-Posttest Design. The sample consisted of 35 elderly people with hypertension who were selected by purposive sampling. The intervention was in the form of giving 4 grams of white ginger decoction boiled in 200 ml of water. Researchers gave the white ginger decoction 2 times a day (morning and evening) for 7 days. The instrument used was a daily blood pressure observation sheet. Data analysis used a paired t-test with a significance level of p <0.05. Research results The average systolic blood pressure of respondents decreased from 150.37 mmHg to 133.34 mmHg, while diastolic blood pressure decreased from 90.20 mmHg to 69.74 mmHg. The statistical test results showed a significant difference between the pre-test and post-test scores, with a p-value of 0.000 (p < 0.05). Conclusion: White ginger decoction has been shown to be effective in lowering blood pressure in hypertensive elderly patients. Nursing practice recommends integrating this intervention into education and support programs for the elderly, along with regular monitoring to ensure its safety and effectiveness.
