Abstract

Acute Respiratory Infections (ARI) are infectious diseases that attack the acute respiratory tract, including the nose, throat, and lungs. The purpose of the research to determine the relationship between the duration of ARI and the quality of life. The study was conducted at the Waibhu Community Health Centre using non-probability sampling with purposive sampling techniques. The sample size was 80 with inclusion criteria of ARI patients aged 19-60 years; duration of ARI are 5-30 days; fully conscious; able to read and write; and willing to be respondents. Respondents who experienced disorientation in time, place, and person were excluded. The instrument used the WHOQOL-BREFF questionnaire to measure quality of life. Data analysis used univariate analysis (gender, age, occupation, marital status, religion, duration of ARI, number of ARI episodes in the last 6 months, and quality of life) and bivariate analysis (the relationship between the duration of ARI and the quality of life) used the Kruskal-Wallis test. The  results showed that there was a significant relationship between the duration of ARI and the quality of life of ARI patients (p=0.001), H=16.336. It is necessary to pay attention to the patient's quality of life to preventing the severity of infection.

Abstract

Hypertension is a chronic disease that cannot be cured, but can be controlled. Acupressure therapy is one of the therapies to control blood pressure in hypertension to avoid complications. This study aims to analyze the application of acupressure therapy to reduce blood pressure in hypertension sufferers. This article was written using a literature review obtained from Garuda, Science Direct, and PubMed, covering the period between 2019 and 2024, in Indonesian and English. A total of 8 articles were reviewed after the search results. All of these articles stated that acupressure therapy can lower blood pressure and can be done at several points on the body. Stimulating nerve waves to smooth blood flow and lower blood pressure can be done by applying pressure to acupuncture points on the body. The application of acupressure therapy in an effort to lower blood pressure in patients with hypertension is considered quite significant and effective. Acupressure therapy can also help lower heart rate, improve sleep quality, and reduce stress levels.

Abstract

Female genital mutilation (FGM) is a debated practice in Indonesia, from religious, health and legal perspectives. This study aims to explore the views of religious leaders and medical professionals on the practice of female circumcision, and examine its compatibility with Islamic teachings, medical standards, and applicable regulations. This study used a qualitative approach with a semi-structured interview method involving five resource persons from among religious leaders and health professionals in the Sumedang area. Analysis was conducted using a thematic approach to identify patterns and views that emerged. The results showed that some religious leaders still view female circumcision as a sunnah action, but do not require its implementation, especially if it can cause harm. Meanwhile, from a medical perspective, this practice is considered to have no health benefits and can actually cause physical and psychological harm. The practice is also considered contrary to children's rights and is no longer legally recommended in Indonesia. This study concludes that there is a need for comprehensive education and collaboration between religious leaders, medical personnel, and policy makers to gradually prevent the practice of female circumcision through an approach based on religious values, health protection, and children's rights.

Abstract

Organizational Citizenship Behavior (OCB) refers to voluntary behaviors that exceed formal job requirements and play an important role in enhancing the effectiveness of hospital services. Organizational commitment is believed to be one of the factors influencing the emergence of OCB. This study aimed to examine the relationship between organizational commitment and OCB among nurses at Hospital. This research employed a cross-sectional design. The sample consisted of 85 nurses selected using total sampling. Data were collected using organizational commitment and OCB questionnaires. The results showed that most nurses (63.5%) had high organizational commitment, and nearly most of them (61.2%) exhibited high OCB. Statistical analysis using the Spearman Rho test revealed a p-value of 0.000 (p < 0.05) and a correlation coefficient (rₛ) of 0.975. Therefore, the alternative hypothesis (H₁) was accepted, indicating a significant relationship between organizational commitment and OCB among nurses at Hospital. Based on these findings, it is recommended that the hospital maintain consistency in reinforcing organizational values, encourage active managerial involvement, and conduct regular evaluations of nurses’ work behaviors to enhance their OCB.

Abstract

Children with mental retardation commonly experience developmental delays, including impairments in fine motor skills that play a crucial role in academic readiness and daily functional independence. The limited use of engaging and structured interventions in special education settings often results in suboptimal fine motor stimulation. This study aimed to analyze the effect of paper toy play therapy on improving fine motor development in children with mental retardation. A pre-experimental one-group pretest–posttest design was employed involving 37 students at SDLB Ananda Mandiri Tambun, Bekasi Regency. Fine motor development was assessed using a 12-item observational checklist administered before and after four intervention sessions. The findings showed an increase in the mean score from 20.16 to 26.43. The Wilcoxon Signed-Rank test yielded a p-value < 0.001, indicating a statistically significant difference between pretest and posttest scores. Before the intervention, most children were categorized as poor or adequate; however, post-intervention assessments demonstrated an increase in the number of children who achieved good fine motor performance. This study concludes that paper toy play therapy is effective in enhancing fine motor skills in children with mental retardation. Its implications highlight the potential for integrating this therapy into individualized education programs in sp

Abstract

People diagnosed with HIV will experience stress and emotional distress because they feel that their lives are not what they expected, which will affect all aspects of their lives. Spirituality is believed to have a positive impact and provide strength so that people living with HIV/AIDS (PLWHA) are able to face problems in their lives with positive coping mechanisms. This study aims to determine the relationship between spiritual well-being and quality of life in people living with HIV/AIDS (PLWHA). This study employed a quantitative correlational method with a cross-sectional design conducted at the Pamanukan Community Health Center. Respondents were selected using purposive sampling, resulting in 130 respondents. Data collection was conducted using the Spiritual Well-Being Scale (SWBS) and WHOQOL-HIV BREF questionnaires, which have been validated and proven reliable. The data obtained were analyzed using the Spearman Rank correlation test, yielding significant results (r < 0.001) with a moderate correlation coefficient (r = 0.458) and a positive direction of association. This indicates a relationship between spiritual well-being and quality of life among PLWHA, where higher spiritual well-being is associated with higher quality of life.

Abstract

The global prevalence of hypertension has shown a consistent increase, including in rural areas, which generally have limited access to health services, nutrition education, and resources for non-communicable disease prevention. Changes in consumption patterns due to modernization have exacerbated exposure to dietary risk factors, particularly high intakes of salt, saturated fat, added sugar, and low fiber consumption. As a modifiable risk factor, diet plays a crucial role in hypertension control, yet scientific evidence in rural populations remains scattered and has not been systematically synthesized. Therefore, this study aimed to map scientific evidence on the relationship between diet and hypertension in rural populations through a scoping review approach. A search was conducted in PubMed, Scopus, Science Direct, and Cambridge Core using the PICOS framework for publications from 2020-2025. Of the 21,045 articles, 10 met the inclusion criteria based on PRISMA-ScR and JBI quality assessment (score ≥75%). The results showed that the majority of studies found a significant association between unhealthy diet and hypertension, particularly when accompanied by obesity and a pro-inflammatory diet. Factors such as physical activity, culture, and nutritional status also influence this association. These findings underscore the importance of locally tailored community nutrition interventions and promotion of anti-inflammatory diets to prevent hypertension in rural areas.

Abstract

Breast cancer is a malignant neoplasm of the breast tissue and remains one of the leading health problems among women worldwide. Early detection can be performed through Breast Self-Examination (BSE), which is considered simple, cost-effective, and non-invasive. However, the level of knowledge and practice of BSE among adolescent girls remains low. This study aims to analyze the factors associated with BSE behavior among female students at SMA Nurul Yaqin, Bekasi Regency. A quantitative approach with a cross-sectional design was employed, involving 35 students from grades X–XII selected through total sampling. A structured questionnaire was used to measure knowledge, attitudes, information exposure, family support, and healthcare provider support. The results showed that knowledge (p = 0.003; OR = 13.500), attitude (p = 0.005; OR = 8.250), information exposure (p = 0.027; OR = 6.476), family support (p = 0.008; OR = 10.286), and healthcare provider support (p = 0.046) were significantly associated with BSE behavior, whereas age was not significant (p = 0.565; OR = 2.923). These findings highlight the need to strengthen school- and family-based health education through structured interventions that enhance health literacy, motivation, and social support to encourage consistent early detection practices.

Abstract

Hypertension is a non-communicable disease with a relatively high mortality rate, often referred to as a “silent killer” because it poses a risk of triggering various life-threatening complications. Hypertension management can be conducted by nurses through non-pharmacological interventions; however, such measures are still infrequently applied. The use of Citrullus lanatus (watermelon) juice represents a non-pharmacological therapy that may help control elevated blood pressure. This study aims to analyze the effect of Citrullus lanatus juice therapy on blood pressure reduction among hypertensive patients. This quantitative research employed a quasi-experimental design with a pre-test–post-test control group. The sampling technique used non-probability purposive sampling based on inclusion and exclusion criteria and rule-of-thumb calculations. A total of 58 hypertensive patients in the working area of Ratahan Public Health Center participated (intervention group n = 44, control group n = 14). Blood pressure categories were determined using JNC VIII recommendations. Intervention group received 500 ml of watermelon juice, three times daily, for seven consecutive days, along with healthy lifestyle education. The Wilcoxon test showed a significant difference in the intervention group (p = 0.000 < 0.05), indicating a meaningful reduction in pre- and post-test blood pressure. In contrast, the control group showed no significant difference (p = 0.083 > 0.05). This study confirms that Citrullus lanatus juice is effective as a supportive non-pharmacological therapy for lowering blood pressure in hypertensive patients. Citrullus lanatus juice may be considered a complementary therapy that is accessible, affordable, and safe to support healthy lifestyle among individuals with hypertension.
