Abstract

Bubu is a passive fishing gear designed to catch various types of fish, crustaceans, mollusks and others, with various shapes and made of various materials. One type is a folding umbrella trap which is now widely operated in the waters of Jangkat, Jambi. The main catch target is seluang fish. The purpose of the research was to determine the effect of the number of entrances (funnels) on the average catch and to determine the effectiveness of umbrella traps. The research method is experimental fishing. The results showed that there was a difference in the average catches of funnel 6 and funnel 8 traps based on the results of the calculation of T hit (2.85) T tab (2.18). Umbrella traps of funnel 6 and funnel 8 are not effective in catching seluang fish (Rasbora argyotaenia) because E 1. However, folding umbrella traps can be said to be effective in catching seluang fish when viewed from the number of catches per species, not based on target and non-target fish.

Abstract

Gill nets are widely used by Semerap Village fishermen to catch fish in Lake Kerinci. Various forms of construction, placement of nets, and the number of sheets of nets are thought to influence the catch on the fish's number, size, weight, length, and height. The research objectives were to identify the construction and analyze the types of fish caught in gill nets operating in Semerap Village, Kerinci District, Jambi Province. The research method used is survey and observation. The results showed that the construction of gill nets operating in Semerap Village, Kerinci Regency obtained relatively the same dimensions, with only striking differences such as mesh size, fishing area, ballast size used, operating time, and target fish. The types of fish caught were dominated by Tilapia, Hampala Sp., Anabas Sp., Trichogaster Sp., and Rasbora Sp.

Abstract

Handling the layang fish (Decapterus sp) cold chain is an effort to maintain the freshness of fish until it reaches consumers in a fresh condition. Added ice flakes are the method for applying low temperatures in storage so that fish are durable and long-lasting. The purpose of this study was to analyze the freshness level of layang fish after being stored for 0, 2, 4, and 6 hours. The study used an experimental method with four treatments and three replications. Fish samples were taken directly from Tempat Pelelangan Ikan (TPI) Bungus, Padang, and transported to the laboratory using a cold box. On arrival at the laboratory, the fish samples were separated into several cold boxes which had been given ice flakes with the ratio of fish to ice 1:1. Then, the organoleptic test was carried out using 25 semi-trained panelists. The organoleptic parameters were eyes, gills, mucus, fish cutlet, odor, and texture of layang fish. The results showed that chilled storage for 2-4 hours found that layang fish was still categorized as fresh and received a score of 6.00 – 7.48 from the panelists, meaning that fish was highly favored by consumers. After 6 hours of chilled storage, the quality of fish began to decline with an average score ranging from 4.72-5.20 with the characteristics of fish eyes turning red and the fish flesh becoming mushy. Handling chilled temperatures is necessary to maintain the quality and freshness of layang fish. The best-chilled storage temperature was about 2-4 hours.

Abstract

Tilapia is is one of Indonesia's leading commodities that has the potential to be developed in support of national food security and economic security as well as improving people's welfare. The need for tilapia at this time is getting higher, to encourage businesses in the fishery sector which are developed intensively. One type of tilapia that is cultivated in BPBAT Sungai Gelam is JICA (Japan for International Cooperation Agency) Tilapia. JICA tilapia is also resistant to diseases in various water quality and is more resistant to changes in the parent environment than other tilapia. Based on the information obtained, it is necessary to study how the JICA tilapia (Oreochromis sp) spawning techniques can be carried out. The research was conducted from January to February 2023 at the Gelam River Freshwater Aquaculture Fishery Center, Muaro Jambi Regency, Jambi Province. Spawning of JICA  Tilapia (Oreochromis sp) conducted at BPBAT Sungai Gelam, Jambi Province was carried out naturally, where for the comparison of broodstock between males and females with the ratio 1:3. The first spawning stages carried out in spawning of the JICA Tilapia are brood rearing, brood selection, spawning, and larvae harvesting. The total amount of fecundity obtained from the parent sample was an average of 2,741 eggs.

Abstract

Green mussels (Perna viridis) or green mussels are marine inhabitants with two shells and are green in color. Green mussels belong to the class Mytilidae. Animals with a pair of valves are called bivalves. This animal is also known as pelecys which means small axe, and podos which means foot. Green Mussel (Perna viridis) is a type of shellfish that is known to have economic value and excellent nutritional content for consumption, which consists of 40.8% water, 21.9% protein, 14.5% fat, 18.5% carbohydrates, and 4.3% ash, thus making green mussels comparable to beef, eggs or chicken meat, from 100 grams of green mussel meat contains 100 calories. Kamaboko is a typical form of fish from Japan which is generally made from ground fish meat as the main ingredient or infused with clam meat added with starch for thickening, sugar, salt, and sodium glutamate to add flavor. The kamaboko processing involves the stages of dressing, washing, soaking, grinding the shell meat, making the dough, molding, and steaming (cooking).

Abstract

Estimating the utilization status of kurau fish resources by other methods using limited data needs to be tried, as a comparison in formulating policies. The aim of this study was to determine the utilization status of kurau fish resources through the Length-Based Spawning Potential Ratio (LB-SPR) approach in the waters of Bengkalis Island. The method used in this study was a review of kurau fish data from July to September 2016. Data were analyzed descriptively using the LB-SPR method. The results showed that the utilization status of kurau fish resources through the LB-SPR approach in the waters of Bengkalis Island was fully moderate (still in moderate condition) with an SPR of 30%, the SL50 value was greater than the Lm value (SL50Lm) so that most of the fish caught had been worth catching. This condition indicates that fishing activities are still in a safe status, but need to be controlled so that the fish caught do not get smaller. The status of the kurau fishery is still relatively good, and can be used massively, but it needs good management to avoid overfishing.
