Abstract

Figurative language refers to the use of expressive linguistic tools that transcend literal interpretation to convey deeper meanings and evoke vivid imagery. In light of this definition, this researchs objective is to find out the types of figurative language and to find out the most dominant type of figurative language in Autumn!'s album "Golden Child, Chapter 3" by utilizing Perrine's theory of figurative language. The researcher has employed the qualitative research method in this research. The researcher found 8 types of figurative language from 78 datum in this figurative research. It includes the following; Simile (18 datum), Metaphor (21 datum), Personification (3 datum), Synecdoche (5 datum), Metonymy (10 datum), Paradox (1 datum), Hyperbole (16 datum), and irony (4 datum). This research showed that the most dominant type of figurative language is Metaphor with 21 data.

Abstract

Technology has a significant impact on modern civilization and everyday life. Human existence without technology now feels incomplete, because technology has become an inseparable part of our lives. Its use significantly enhances human capabilities, especially in educational contexts. The application of technology in education is very important to prepare future generations to face a rapidly evolving technological landscape. One of the most technological advances in education is Virtual Reality (VR). Integrating VR into the classroom allows students to immerse themselves in a realistic and interactive environment where they can record and evaluate their performance, thereby can improving their fluency. Therefore, this research conducted a systematic literature review to examine the impact of VR use and the factors influencing its effectiveness, particularly on students speaking skills in educational settings. The PRISMA model was used as the method, selecting 13 studies from the initial 133 studies. The results show that VR can effectively and significantly improve students' speaking skills, influenced by various factors. Therefore, VR is a great technological tool that can be used to improve students speaking skills.

Abstract

Flouting maxim is happened when the speakers blatantly fail to follow the cooperative principles and convey the meaning to the listeners. The objectives of this research are to find out the types of flouting maxim in Wednesday series and to identify the type of flouting maxim that most frequently used in Wednesday series used Grice (1975) theory. This research used descriptive qualitative method. The result showed that the researcher found 4 types of flouting maxim, they were flouting maxim of quantity for 40 (38%) data, flouting maxim of quality for 23 (22%) data, flouting maxim of relation for 21 (20%) data, and flouting maxim of manner for 21 (20%) data. The dominant flouting maxim frequently occurred in the Wednesday series is the flouting maxim of quantity for 40 (38%) data.

Abstract

Every teaching and learning activity needs an important component, namely Textbooks. So, the students need the best Textbook as their main learning material. The textbook's author additionally has to adapt the subject matter and substance to account for children's cognitive development at the appropriate age and stage of development. Children's visual perception can be impacted by the unique features of semiotic images, one of which comes from books that should be balanced with character teaching. One can study or research semiotic elements in textbook illustrations. My Next Word, class IV in an elementary school textbook, has been selected as the sample for this study's visual analysis of multiculturalism in Elementary School Textbooks. Utilizing qualitative research techniques, information and illustrations in the textbook were collected. Using Barthes' 1977 visual semiotic theory.

Abstract

The aims of this research are to find out the types of Flouting Maxim and Flouting Maxim that most frequently occurred in the Spider-Man: No Way Home movie. This research used Cooperative Principles theory that proposed by Grice (1975). The researcher used descriptive qualitative method and documentation techniques in collecting data. The data of this research were taken from the utterances by all the characters in the Spider-Man: No Way Home movie. Based on the result, the researcher found 32 data contained Flouting Maxim based on Grices theory. The researcher found 4 types of Flouting Maxim, there are; 7 data of Flouting Maxim of Quantity, 8 data of Flouting Maxim of Quality, 10 data of Flouting Maxim of Relation, and 7 data of Flouting Maxim of Manner. Based on the result, it can be concluded that Flouting Maxim of Relation is the Flouting Maxim that most frequently occurred in the Spider-Man: No Way Home movie.

Abstract

Figurative language is a way of speaking to express someones thoughts or intentions without using a literal meaning. The aims of this research are to identify types of figurative language in album Ballads 1 by Joji on Kerafs & Kennedy theory. This research used qualitative method. The source of the data in this research is the Lyric from the album Ballads 1 by Joji. They are Why Am I Still in LA, Test Drive, Rip, No Fun, Yeah Right, Come Thru, Slow Dancing in The Dark, Attention, Xnxx, Ill see you in 40, Wanted U, and Cant Get Over You. Moreover, to archive the aims of this research, the researcher used the qualitative method. The researcher uses the theory of Gorys Keraf (2009) & X.J Kennedy (1979). The result of this research shows that there are 31 data of figurative languages including simile (3), metaphor (7), hyperbole (4), personification (4), symbol (2), paradox (2), synecdoche (2), and repetition (7).

Abstract

The research is The Effectiveness of Wordwall Game-based Learning Media on Student Learning Outcomes on Simple Past Tense. This research was conducted in class IX MTs Al-Hibsiyah Lengkong. The objectives of this study are (1) To determine whether there is an effect of using Wordwall game-based learning media on student learning outcomes of simple past tense material, and (2) To determine the effectiveness of using Wordwall game-based learning media as seen from student responses. This research uses a pre-experimental method, with a One Group Pre-test - posttest design consisting of six meetings including treatment. Sampling using purposive sampling technique, with a total sample of 20 ninth-grade students. Data was obtained based on test instruments (pre-test - post-test) and questionnaires. The results showed that the post-test results were greater than the pre-test results, which means that students experienced an increase in simple past-tense learning outcomes after using Wordwall game-based learning media. The average pre-test score obtained by students is 54.75 and the post-test is 80.75 and the acquisition of the overall N-Gain average value is 58,64%, therefore students' scores have increased significantly. The average questionnaire result value is 88.50%, including the Strongly Agree category, which means that the use of the Wordwall game is very effective to be used as a learning media for students simple past tense. This is also evidenced by the results of hypothesis testing using Paired Sample t-test through SPSS 22, that the value of Asymp. Sig. (2-tailed) 0.000 < 0.05, it can be concluded that the hypothesis is accepted.Keyword: Wordwall Game-based Learning Media, Learning Outcomes, Simple Past Tense

Abstract

Communication is one of important things in peoples daily lives. People tell, inform, and ask anything to their interlocutors by communicating. Conversation is one of activities that people do to communicate. Conversation can happen when there are at least two people to communicate in their familiar language. Movie can be the example media that not only shows usual conversational activity. In movies, participants occasionally disregard the Cooperative Principle. They may provide excessive or insufficient information, use ambiguous statements, make false claims, or bring up irrelevant points. This research focuses on the research aim to find out the types of flouting maxims used and the dominant flouting maxims used in the Hotel Transylvania. This research uses a descriptive qualitative method. In this study, the researcher applied Grice's theory to analyze data from the movie Hotel Transylvania. The data consisted of 40 instances where the maxim was flouted, as identified by the researcher using the theory. The result shows that there are 4 types of flouting maxims namely: flouting maxim of quantity (5 data), flouting maxim of quality (12 data), flouting maxim of relation (18 data), and flouting maxim of manner (5 data). Meanwhile the dominant flouting maxim used in the Hotel Transylvania movie is flouting maxim of relation (18 data).

Abstract

Storytelling is one of the activities that can be done in class because it has many benefits, especially for young children. As a teacher and parent, reading stories through Storytelling is very necessary to increase closeness with children and can also instill the value of character education in early childhood. Based on the results of this research, researchers are interested in conducting similar research with the same variables, but with different samples, locations and student backgrounds. The research was conducted on early childhood students at Mentari Preschool Jakarta where these students had upper middle class family backgrounds and wider access to English-speaking information, environment and culture. This research is qualitative research using the classroom action method through 2 cycles. Sampling method with 20 K1B class students. The research was taken based on the Rancangan Pembelajaran Harian (RPPH) with fixed activities on moral values and character. The research results show that Storytelling activities can increase students' educational and moral values.

Abstract

Tasks on language textbooks are essential for displaying materials, assisting students in using the language, and fostering critical and creative thinking. This study's objective is to examine the task in the English textbook, Modul Pembelajar SMP Terbuka Bahasa Inggris: Modul 1 Its English Time, as well as the various types of assignments it offers in the eighth grade List making (24%) ordering and sorting (24%) comparing (20%) problem solving (32%) and sharing personal experiences (0%) were the least common task types offered in Modul Pembelajar SMP Terbuka Bahasa Inggris: Modul 1 It's English Time for 8th Grade, according to Willis's (2000) task taxonomy. In this study, we employed a descriptive qualitative and content analytic design. The study is also quantitative in that we calculated and tabulated the frequency and percentage of each sort of activity. The findings of this study are expected to increase English teachers' awareness of various task kinds that are crucial to the learning process. For developers to improve and add more communicative challenges to the existing English Learning teaching resources.
