Abstract

The implementation of the Merdeka Curriculum demands a transformation of instructional materials capable of systematically stimulating students' critical thinking skills; however, the integration of Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS) in regional language textbooks tends to be limited compared to national subjects. This study aims to describe the distribution of HOTS, the variation of HOTS operational verbs, and the types of stimuli used in the Seventh-Grade Sundanese textbook Rancagé Diajar Basa Sunda. The novelty of this study lies in its focus on the analysis of HOTS implementation within Sundanese local content, which remains under-researched, compared to national subjects. Using a qualitative approach with a descriptive method through content analysis techniques, this study employed the Revised Bloom's Taxonomy as the research instrument to dissect cognitive levels. A total of 294 content units were collected through documentation techniques, while data validity was ensured through theory triangulation to maintain the objectivity of the analysis. The results reveal that only 98 items (33%) meet the HOTS criteria, while the majority, comprising 196 items (67%), remain at the Lower Order Thinking Skills (LOTS) level. Although the C4 (analyzing) level is predominant, the C5 (evaluating) and C6 (creating) levels occur with minimal frequency, supported by stimuli restricted to simple discourse texts. These findings confirm that the HOTS content in the textbook has not yet reached the ideal standard of 40–60%. The implications suggest that textbook authors must reconstruct materials by enriching visual stimuli and problem-based tasks to transform Sundanese language learning from mere linguistic mastery into the development of cognitive competencies relevant to 21st-century educational needs.

Abstract

This study examines the effect of financial leverage on financial performance in property and Real estate companies listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange, and whether financial distress modifies that effect. The objective is to  determine whether higher leverage reduces financial performance and  whether financial distress strengthens or weakens that relationship. We use a quantitative panel regression on 68 firms observed between 2020 and 2024. Outliers were screened using the interquartile range and an indicator saturation procedure implemented in EViews 13, yielding 249 usable  observations. Financial leverage is measured by the debt-to-asset ratio, firm  performance by Return on Assets (ROA) and Return on Equity (ROE), and  financial distress by a bankruptcy-risk score (Altman Z-Score). Results show  that higher debt-to-asset ratios significantly reduce both ROA and ROE.  Financial distress does not have a significant direct effect on performance,  but the combined effect of leverage and distress is positive and significant,  indicating that distress tends to weaken rather than amplify the negative  impact of leverage. The findings suggest that firms under financial pressure  often adopt restructuring or efficiency measures that mitigate leverage’s  adverse effects. The study concludes that property firms should manage  leverage carefully and address distress proactively through timely  restructuring and operational improvements to preserve profitability and  long-term viability.

Abstract

This study examines whether four alternative assets Bitcoin, gold, government bonds, and the United States dollar provide protection against declines in the Indonesia Stock Exchange Composite Index (IHSG). The objective is to determine which assets act as hedges for returns and which serve as volatility safe havens during turbulent market conditions. Using daily log returns from February 2022 to April 2025, the study applies simple linear return regressions, volatility regressions constructed from 10-day rolling standard deviations, and 60-day rolling return regressions to capture time-varying relationships. The results show that the US dollar consistently exhibits a negative and statistically significant relationship with IHSG returns, indicating a reliable hedging function. In contrast, government bonds, gold, and Bitcoin display positive return betas, implying pro-cyclical behavior rather than defensive characteristics. In volatility analysis, the US dollar and government bonds record the smallest sensitivity to index volatility, while Bitcoin and gold amplify market risk. Time-varying (rolling) estimates reinforce these patterns: the dollar’s defensive role persists across normal and crisis episodes, whereas the other assets rarely show sustained negative betas. In conclusion, for the observed period and market context, the United States dollar is the most effective hedge against IHSG declines; government bonds contribute to volatility stabilization; gold offers limited diversification benefits; and Bitcoin does not function as a dependable defensive asset in the Indonesian equity market.

Abstract

This study discusses the persuasive art in the preaching utterances of Habib Husein Ja’far Al-Hadar on Deddy Corbuzier’s YouTube channel, particularly in the Log-in Season Episode, through a syntactic analysis based on Austin and Searle’s speech act theory. The purpose of this research is to describe the types of sentences used by Habib Ja’far in delivering persuasive messages an to explain the accompanying illocutionary function. The method used is qualitative with observastion and note taking techniques, in which verbal utterances are classified according to sentence types (declarative, imperative, prohibitive, and interrogative) and analyzed in relation to their pragmatic functions. The results of the study show that Habib Ja’far employs various syntactic structures to create strong persuasive effects. Declarative sentences are used to instill moral and spiritual values, imperative and prohibitive sentences serve to guide the audience’s behavior, while interroative sentences function to evoke the listener’s awareness through reflection. The combination of sentencesstructure and illocutinary meaning forms a preaching style that is gentle, logical, and emotional, making religious messages more easily accepted by diverse audience.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the forms and functions of sarcastic language style used by the characters in the film Rumah untuk Alie through a stylistic approach based on Keraf’s (2006) theory of language style. This research employs a qualitative method with listening and note-taking techniques to collect data in the form of utterances containing sarcasm. The data were analyzed using the referential identity method (metode padan) to interpret meanings, contexts, and rhetorical functions of sarcasm in shaping characters and conflicts. The findings reveal three main forms of sarcastic language style: mocking sarcasm, cursing sarcasm, and ironic sarcasm. Each form serves different rhetorical purposes, such as expressing emotions, channeling anger, and asserting social dominance within conflictual interactions. Stylistically, the use of sarcasm in the film demonstrates how diction, intonation, and context create emotional and aesthetic effects while reflecting the characters’ social dynamics and power relations. This study concludes that language in film functions not merely as a medium of communication but also as a means of psychological expression and social representation.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the contribution of production costs, particularly fertilizer and pesticide costs, as well as the selling price of rubber sap to the income fluctuations of rubber farmers in Tingkea'o Village, North Morowali. Using a quantitative descriptive analysis approach with SEM PLS analysis processed through WarpPLS V.8.0 software. Data were collected from 34 rubber farmers randomly through structured interviews, direct observation, and documentation. The results show that fertilizer and pesticide costs contribute significantly and positively to rubber farmers' income, with path coefficients of 0.419 and 0.342, respectively (p-value < 0.001). Conversely, the selling price has no significant effect (p-value = 0.205). The independent variable model explains 41.5% of the variation in income, with the remainder influenced by other external factors. This study reinforces the farming theory of optimizing production costs to improve farmers' livelihoods, while also revealing the limited influence of selling prices due to market structure and the role of middlemen. The strategic recommendations provided can form the basis for policies to support the development of sustainable rubber farming and improve the welfare of farmers in the region.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the influence of the Lunang custom adopted by the Inner Baduy and Outer Baduy communities on the decision to elect the President and Vice President in the 2024 General Election. This study uses a descriptive quantitative method involving 140 respondents from the Baduy community in Kanekes Village, Lebak Regency, Banten Province. Data collection was conducted through questionnaires, then analyzed using descriptive statistics to determine trends and patterns of political decision-making. The results show that the Inner Baduy community tends to be politically neutral based on customary law and spiritual beliefs that emphasize separation from external political affairs. In contrast, the Outer Baduy community shows selective participation influenced by the process of cultural adaptation to the outside world. This study concludes that differences in interpretation and application of the Lunang custom between the two communities have a significant influence on their political decisions, reflecting the role of customary values in shaping democratic participation in Indonesia.

Abstract

Education in Indonesia is continuously evolving through curriculum development based on the Indonesian National Qualifications Framework (KKNI). One of the latest initiatives is the Merdeka Belajar Kampus Merdeka (MBKM), introduced in response to the COVID-19 pandemic and centred on the concept of Merdeka Belajar (Independent Learning). However, implementing the Merdeka Belajar Kampus Merdeka Curriculum in Theological Colleges (Sekolah Tinggi Teologi) faces several challenges, including a limited understanding of educational regulations, inadequate human resources, and insufficient funding. This study employs a qualitative, phenomenological approach to analyse the barriers faced by Sekolah Tinggi Teologi X in implementing the Merdeka Belajar Kampus Merdeka (MBKM) program. The results indicate that several aspects of MBKM are implementable, including: Lectures outside the primary study program, field service practice (PPL), an assessment system that does not require mandatory mid-semester or final exams. Conversely, other components remain difficult to execute, such as student exchange programs, entrepreneurship initiatives, and independent studies or projects. This study recommends that stakeholders analyse self-training strategies, evaluate the current curriculum, and develop a partnership strategy to accelerate the implementation of the Merdeka Curriculum in Theological Colleges.

Abstract

This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of nesting care in stabilizing physiological parameters of low birth weight infants receiving treatment in a perinatology unit. A descriptive case study design was used to observe two premature infants who experienced respiratory instability, fluctuating body temperature, feeding intolerance, and a high risk of infection. Nesting care was applied continuously for three days by positioning the infants in a flexed posture resembling the intrauterine environment to improve comfort and reduce physiological stress. Physiological parameters, including heart rate, respiratory rate, oxygen saturation, and body temperature, were monitored before and after the intervention. The results showed consistent improvement in both infants, marked by decreased heart rate and respiratory rate, increased oxygen saturation reaching ninety nine percent, and stable body temperature within the normal range. These findings indicate that nesting care supports physiological stabilization and promotes energy conservation in infants with low birth weight. In conclusion, nesting care is a simple, affordable, evidence based intervention that enhances physiological stability and can be integrated into routine neonatal nursing practice.

Abstract

The re-escalation of the Palestine-Israel conflict in 2023 has triggered mixed responses from regional countries, especially Saudi Arabia and Iran, two major powers in the Middle East with contrasting political orientations and national interests. This study aims to analyze the geopolitical dynamics influencing the attitudes of the two countries toward the conflict, using Donald E. Nuechterlein's theory of national interest. Through the library research method, this study identifies that Saudi Arabia tends to emphasize regional stability and maintain strategic relations with the West, while Iran uses the conflict to strengthen its anti-Zionist ideological narrative and expand its regional influence through alliances with non-state actors. The findings show that differences in interests in terms of defense, economy, ideology, and global position significantly shape each country's response patterns. This study contributes to the understanding of the shifting balance of power in the Middle East and the relevance of national interests in determining the direction of foreign policy in the region.
